misscam: (No dissent!)

Ugh, ever had one of those 'can't hold down anything, not even water' kind of sicks? I am. Must've eaten something that very much didn't agree with me. Just hope I don't get dehydrated or something silly while waiting for it to settle down. Ugh.

On the topic of ugh: Republican Ohio state legislator John Adams of Sidney, has submitted a bill that would require a woman to obtain the permission of the man who impregnated her before she could receive abortion services.

Let me get this straight. I generally think it's a good idea that in case of a pregnancy, the two parties involved talk to each other. Ideally, it should be a joint decision. However, there are situations where that might not possible. Ultimately, a woman's will trumps the father's. I'm sorry, but it does. Because it's her body. Forcing her to carry a fetus to term against her will is just... I have no words. Don't even get me started on the bit about rape in there. I don't have the energy for that particular rage today.

I see Russell T. Davis was interviewed about reactions to Torchwood's Children of Earth. Comments get into it, as one might expect.

Also, RTD ships Winchester brothers, it seems.

Meanwhile, the new Star Trek movie led to a number of things and now a group would like the next one to include Kirk/Spock - in the name of equality.

However, not all get behind this idea and don't like that one ship is focused on and set up as the One That Would Represent Equality. It would also mean breaking up Spock and Uhura, and that doesn't go down well with everyone.

I must admit, I kinda found this movement (as they call themselves) tacky. It comes across way more 'we find this pairing hot, please stick it in the movie!' than 'hey, how about some representation of same sex couples that isn't made of fail?' The latter, I'm totally behind. The first is way more fannish entitlement. And shrouding that in a call for equality? I find that tacky, I do. (Plus, starting it with a version of 'I know this isn't really allowed, but I am going to post anyway'? Does not endear me.)

Also being talked about here and here.

Cam and Saz discuss Spock and Uhura, shallow, mushed ship names, RTD's brain and the Internet being for porn:

[personal profile] lotus79: first there was shipping, and then there was wank
[personal profile] misscam: yes
[personal profile] misscam: I haven't watched the movie, but in my totally shallow opinion, Spock and Uhura looks hot
[personal profile] lotus79: heh
[personal profile] lotus79: I haven't really looked at pics so I wouldn't know
[personal profile] misscam: (supplies a few googled images)
[personal profile] lotus79: aww, agreed that's rather sweet
[personal profile] misscam: the shallows have it!
[personal profile] misscam: damn, I should really watch that movie and see if it is hot
[personal profile] lotus79: lol. me too
[personal profile] misscam: sadly it's out of theatres and not out on DVD until November
(...)
[personal profile] misscam: I hope Spock/Uhura doesn't have some silly ship name
[personal profile] misscam: you know, I saw someone call Adama/Roslin 'Rodama' the other day. It was like claws down the backboard of my fannish soul
[personal profile] lotus79: *pats*
[personal profile] lotus79: I have actually heard that one a fair bit
[personal profile] misscam: nooooooooooooo
[personal profile] misscam: where?
[personal profile] lotus79: not sure where. FFN I expect
[personal profile] misscam: the pit of voles and mushed ship names
[personal profile] misscam: I'm trying to figure out why it annoys me so. Apart from sounding utterly inane 99% of the time, anyway
[personal profile] misscam: I think it's because it reduces two induviduals to some sort of blob together. Like they have no identity outside the relationship
[personal profile] lotus79: that too, yeh
[personal profile] lotus79: I don't call me and Luke Lurah or Suke (rofl, btw!) or Turandy
[personal profile] misscam: I love mah ships, but I love them for being individual people trying to work a relationship with who they are, dammit
[personal profile] lotus79: hey we could be "Trandy" Sounds kinda like trendy. But maybe too much like tranny
[personal profile] misscam: Suke. Snooort
[personal profile] misscam: you should put it on your doorbell
[personal profile] misscam: my name doesn't lend itself to any funny mushed ship names, I think. Depends who I'd hook up with, of course
[personal profile] lotus79: I just suggested it to Luke and he didn't seem impressed
[personal profile] misscam: he doesn't understand that mushed ship names proves how Twu Wub it is
[personal profile] lotus79: maybe he does and is commitment shy?
[personal profile] misscam: then you need to push him into it, clearly. That's what Dr. Phil would tell you
[personal profile] lotus79: he would?
[personal profile] misscam: he was doing some blah blah on make people face their fears
[personal profile] misscam: you know, watching him while being sick makes it all come up so much faster
[personal profile] lotus79: rofl
(...)
[personal profile] misscam: (links to RTD interview from above)
[personal profile] lotus79: oh dear. Did Rusty just admit he was into Wincest?
[personal profile] misscam: yes
[personal profile] lotus79: lol
[personal profile] lotus79: this amuses me rather a lot
[personal profile] misscam: RTD's brain: The Wincest Smut Archives
[personal profile] misscam: I guess Internet Petition for him to take over the show will soon follow
[personal profile] misscam: Internet Democracy: Anything that offers possibilities of porn gets petitions
[personal profile] lotus79: *sings rendition of 'the internet is for porn'*
[personal profile] misscam: oh no now it's stuck in my head. And cows are dancing to it
