Endings

So skimming my friendslist this morning, I saw that Lindorien had at last posted a sort of reply to the recent hacking-no hacking drama mentioned in my previous post.

Retraction? Admission? Farewell?

Remains to be seen if this will the End of the Matter, to quote her.

The remains of hurricane Karl has sailed up over Norway and is giving us rain and strong winds before it dies away. One last hurrah before its end. The winds are whipping through the trees as I'm typing this and it all feels very much like autumn. Maybe that is why my muse wants to write angst of late. It's certainly resisting being funny. (On that note, Nocturne has gone off to beta, so there should be an update there in the forseeable future.)

European observers to watch election - I found this rather interesting. The "beacon of democracy" (as some Americans like to call it) is having international observers to its election. *raises eyebrow* Remains to be seen how this will play out and if the observers observe something that oughtn't be.

There are worse ways to spend one's last day.

I think I'm going to need heavy sedatives around election time. Even just having Bush be as close in the polls as he has been is disturbing, because I'm not optimistic that he won't try to enter office unfairly again. I'll take a dosage to last me until I realize that Bush is not in office, whether that means a few days for the legal fight over the election results or the next four years if Bush wins. "Beacon of Democracy" indeed. We saw what happened four years ago. (Well, some of us saw it, others actually sent me an e-mail trying to get me to sign a petition telling Al Gore, "The results are in -- YOU LOST, so shut up.")

Ooh, a wish! I'f like for you to introduce me to that dashing feline of yours. I'll bring him yum yums, however spoiled he already is. ;)

I'm dead certain that the election has already been rigged.

I'm also dead certain that if Kerry should by some fluke win, the Shrubbery will find a reason to declare martial law, or something equally illegal. The Shrub has said repeatedly that he would like to be dictator of America, so such a move would not astonish me. It would sicken and horrify me, but it would not surprise me in the least.

My Immigrants class that I just got out of a few minutes ago was hijacked for my professor to discuss why everyone should vote today (our university is pushing to register as many people in our age group as possible and professors are being asked to speak with their classes about it, and some go farther in their announcements than others) -- when she discussed how exactly Bush was declared winner last election, my blood started boiling. (Actually, it had started when she mentioned the word draft as one reason why people in my age group should vote, but anyway...) So a ruling that won by one vote that said, Stop counting the votes put the Shrub in power -- and if memory serves, most of these old judges had been appointed by previous Republican Presidents. Gee, that doesn't make things suspicious, does it? Nice to know, considering how much more of the government is now controlled by the Republicans now.

I wouldn't be surprised if he won by a dirty stunt, either. One equally cynical friend told me there's even been some anger on the Republican side about how we're even having elections at all during this war, and oh, how dare the selfish Democrats run against our Great and Powerful Leader when we need to be unified in a war we were never unified in our opinions of in the first place. Gah. -_-;

It's certainly shaping up to look like four more years of Bush and Cam's Sanity merrily skipping away.

I was actually a little upset to read Lindorien's post. I somehow don't think that this shall be the end but... It really *is* upsetting to see a person driven to such an extent by pointless and harsh actions.

The "beacon of democracy" needs to [expletive deleted]. Apparently more conflicts are needed between Europe and U.S. Bush won unfairly last time. What's preventing him from doing the same thing this year? Especially when the stakes are so much higher?

The whole thing is making my head boggle more than anything. I mean, how it got as far as it did is just baffling.

If Bush gets to power in much the same manner this time as well, it will have serious consequences, me thinks.

I would ask that the world not end, of course.

I'd ask for a day and a night with Elijah Wood, of course. We'd hang out, drink beer, eat pizza, watch movies, take Boychilde and the dog to the park, and make wild monkey love.

I don't like coconut, so it'll be something more along the lines of walking to the downtown bakery to get cream horns yummmy....cream horns.....*shudder*

Anyway, no, no palm trees, no coconuts. Just some Sam Adams, a small house special and a large pepperoni after a day at the beach or the park with Boychilde and the dog. A stack of movies, a comfy couch, a big warm blanket and my son at his father's for the evening, and that's my idea of heaven.

Then the next morning, I'd go to my ex's house and Elijah'd go to be with his family, and *poof*
end of daydream.

I'm a woman of simple pleasures.

It wouldn't normally, only home life is pretty tricky at the moment [grandad dying, boyfriend in hospital, exams etc.] so it took much longer because I never seem to have time to sit down at the computer. I should have it back to you by the end of the night, if things go as planned. Sorry about the wait.

And the Mithril Awards Hacking Saga? *sigh* I don't know what to make of it. All I can do is laugh, really.

What really scares me is this statement made by Rumsfeld:

"Let's say you tried to have an election, and you could have it in three-quarters or four-fifths of the country, but some places you couldn't because the violence was too great, well, that's so be it."

He was talking about Iraq, but still. The sentiment scares me. Because someplace is being attacked they can't have a voice in the future of their country?

Yeah, I heard that. I'm not sure the Iraqi people would be all that happy over that. And really, if you exclude someone from an election - well, it hardly qualifies for a democracy, now does it?

Mind if I borrow that shark? I volunteer for the Kerry campaign, and I could use it when we travel to NH next. I swear, if I hear one more, "Don't switch horses midstream" person...
