I got [livejournal.com profile] lotus79 hooked on Doctor Who, and thus she demanded I write her a fic, since it was all my fault. I take my blame (with style, hopefully).
Ashes of Survival: Part One / Part Two / Part Three [Nine/Rose, mature]
(Or found here.)

That's my longest Doctor Who fic so far. Go me.

I've started a timer for the Neo-Nazis to shout "ZOMG OPRRESSIONS WE R WRITE!"

Goddamn. Can't they be satisfied with totally screwing up two countries? Or do they have to get a trifecta?

*raises eyebrow at the "fanfic"*

GOOD SPEECH GOT TO REGONALS!GR.8

Er, thanks for re-defining what "good speech" means. After posting it where it doesn't belong, too.

Heh, and I guessed this was "Gr.8" by the fact that its last paragraph opened with the words "In conclusion." (Mainly because 8th grade was when my mom started scolding me for using "In conclusion" in my papers. :P)

Though when she mentioned September 11, I thought for a second that she was some neo-con with an agenda. *lassos her cynicism and tells it to calm down a bit* ^_^;;;;; < /nasty insomniac rambling>

Nice CSI 'fanfic'. School essays are so ...cute. Whenever I see something like this, I'm rather glad that I didn't choose to become a teacher. Marking grade 8 essays without making snarky comments would be well-nigh impossible for me. (And I'm very glad that my grade 8 essays no longer exist. Especially not on the Internet.)

I very much enjoyed your Doctor Who mini-epic, though. And I really should leave you more detailed feedback than that because a mere "hey, I liked that" is not exactly very satisfying as a comment, is it? So maybe I'll put in my two cents' worth when I'm not tired and can actually form more coherent sentences again.

To keep it short and simple for now: fantastic (Ashes of Survival, I mean).

Hrm. At least she just kept it as a speech and didn't give it to Sara or Catherine as a monologue. It's still pretty wtf, though.

The recent kerfuffle in CSI fandom is what makes me glad I sit on the edge of all the discussion. It means I still like the show and the fanfic. So weird.

Does mean that I'm getting more interested in Dr. Who, though. I finally got the first two eps. *grin*

And the thing about the neo-nazis ... it's enough to make me want to :headdesk: myself into a coma. Sheesh.

Yeah, sometimes having a vantage point above the wankiest can be helpful and lead to less headdesk.

Ooh, ooh! Cooooome to the Dark Side... Be seduced.... Love Nine...

Episode 6&8 are the best ones in my opinion. Do give those a try at least and see if it hooks you.

Yes, and then when you're done with Nine, come squee over Ten.

I just love them all, so I can't give you any episode recs. Though I watch an awful lot of 12 and 13...

That CSI essay is...something else. And by something else, I mean it's bloody awful, it really is. *cringe*

The neo-Nazi rally is awful. There's another town in Ohio (can't remember the name) that had an abundance of Nazi supporters at one point. I can't figure out what Nazis find so appealing about Ohio. :/

I haven't been able to catch Dr. Who yet, I'm ashamed to say.

13 breaks my heart. Wah!

But indeed, let us hope Ten will be most squee-worthy and lure in even more followers.

Yeah, it wasn't exactly a masterpiece in its execution.

It's there? Sometimes, a local charismatic leader is what sparks these regional highs. But they are everywhere, the deluded assholes. Me no fond of them.

:P *dons Dark Side voice again* Come, my child... Watch it and be seduced...

It's heartbreaking, but also so very, very cool. In the same way that Serenity makes me wail, despite the fact I adore it.

And I am certain there will be a lot of squeeing over Ten. Perhaps some of the HP audience might also drift in, too.

On the subject of squee, OMG TORCHWOOD!!! *falls down DED*

And being apart from the wank means I miss some good things, too, I guess. Being an introvert, I don't join groups or make friends easily. Ah well, at least it's good to know myself.

Oh, I'll be trying them all, for certain. I'm excited! There hasn't been new Doctorage in so long, and the buzz is so good ... I was going to try to wait to watch until I got all the eps, but I may not be able to wait.

As to the good Nine, I may have to sit down with my best friend for a marathon soon. Found out her husband has *all* the episodes and was holding out ... (he's a ferret, sees something shiney and forgets everything)

I think I kind of promised you slightly more detailed feedback on this, some time ago, so here it is:

First of all, making use of the light/darkness (hence also Baldr's name and his city of Breidablik, I suppose... *g*), fire/ashes, present/past oppositions as leitmotifs was really a clever idea in order to structure your fic and balance the "actual" events (the dying planet) with the interior, character-driven plot.

Moreover, I also liked that you managed to present the darker and more desperate side of the Doctor wand his unique status as the last survivor of the Time War without wallowing in completely gratuitous angst and the romance with Rose as something that also arises from his loneliness. (At least, in my personal interpretation of the show, after I heard about older canon and his previous incarnations, the fact that Nine's the first post-apocalyptic Doc might explain why he seems to be more romantically inclined.)

Oh, and being the dreadful nit-picker that I am, I've also found some typos, slight grammatical inconsistencies and stylistically "dodgy" phrases. But I won't start enumerating them unless you ask me to. :)
