These are the last of the requests to get ficlets, the rest must wait for proper fics. Sorry!

First patch is here.

This patch's prompts:

[profile] sonbon71: NuTrek - perhaps in some time warping way - a Janeway or Beverley Crusher involved with NuTrek Uhura in some way.
[personal profile] stringertheory: Doctor Who, Doctor, Donna, boatswain's call
[personal profile] siraj: World of Warcraft. Something involving High Confessor Paletress and Grand Admiral Westwind. (Combined with [personal profile] sinneahtes's suggested sentence.)
[profile] whatever_lj: BSG, Adama-Roslin, a camera

II

Whose Future?, g, gen, nu!Trek )

II

Listen, g, Doctor Who )

II

Cold Like Steel, pg, World of Warcraft )

II

Remember Me By, g, Adama/Roslin, BSG )
misscam: (Create)
As requested. Most of these became ficlets. Oops. Also, a couple of more coming and one of them turned into a fic I have to run by beta.

Um, yeah. I'm terrible at containing myself.

This batch's prompts:
[profile] crackpig: nu!Trek + Tribbles
[profile] seriderfalcon: BSG, A/R, notes
[profile] theyellow_daisy: Doctor Who, Ten/Rose: An apple a day keeps the doctor away
[personal profile] sodzilla: World of Warcraft. Something Thrall would like to tell Jaina, but never will. (Bonus points if it's NOT "I love you".)
[personal profile] lotus79: BSG, Kara/Lee, resignation

II

The Trouble with Tribble Rumors, pg, nu!STar Trek )

II

Notes From a Meeting, pg-13, BSG )

Am taking them, since tomorrow is no raiding and high potential for me being bored.

So, hit me with a prompt: a word, an object, a line, a situation, an improbale thing to say in bed - whatever comes to mind. I'll write a drabble or maybe even a ficlet (or a fic in extreme cases, never know) based on it. I'll post them in their own post.

Fandoms: Star Trek (nu!movie), Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, World of Warcraft. You can ask about others.

You can specify character/pairing if you want, but keeping it somewhat to characters and pairings I actually have a grip on would be appreciated.
misscam: (GTFO)
The Vatican is totally batshit. Contraception, clearly an environmental danger and an evil of the world, clearly. Bound to be the next supervillain Batman has to fight. Except, you know, not. Actually an important tool in fighting HIV, STDS, unwanted pregnancies and overpopulation. You know Vatican, between this and not wanting to support the decriminalization of homosexuality, you should check your own water supply first, yeah?

Meanwhile in Doctor Who fandom, Eleven seems to have brought the expected wankery. I find it vaguely hilarious that a lot of stuff said about him now is almost word for word stuff that was thrown at Tennant when he was announced. The more things change, the more they stay the same? And yes, there's already Eleven/companion-of-choice fic and comms about. Of course.

Also, in fandom not-news, breaking friendslock is not cool. What the hell is up with the recent trend, DW fandom?

In BSG news, small clip from the next episode on preview. Ooooh. Ten days. WANT. NOW.

Seem to have been nominated for some fanfic naughty award. Bit surprising since explicit sex is not exactly what I'd consider any speciality of mine, but eh well. I guess Nine/Ten/Rose qualified for some sort of kink. You can apparently still nominate there, so go mad?

the fanficcers love meme, continued

(As a fanfiction writer, have you ever wondered what your 'winning' fic or your most well-loved fanfic is? this meme is for fanficcers who want to know which of their works are others' favorites as well as for readers who want to show more appreciation to the fanficcers. Link me your thread if you have one, we all need a little love sometimes.)

ETA: Shit, this looks like bad LJ news. Don't like the sound of that much at all. More info here.

The year in fanfic

Total:
CSI: 1
Doctor Who: 2.5
Battlestar Galactica: 20.5
Narnia: 1

The stuff I wrote this year in chronological order )

All in all, not too bad. Though been slacking the last few months, which could be contributed to a mix of WoW expansion, work and hiatuses. How about it, fanfic writers on my flist - how did you like 2008 for you, writing-wise?
misscam: (All your love is belong to us)
So, not a huge fan of Valentine's Day due to the commercialism of it all. Also, it's never really been a tradition in Norway and thus feels a bit artifical here. But a day for love and friendship on principle, that I rather like.

So, to focus on that - a ficlete meme I modified from several on my flist.

Give me a pairing/friendship and a prompt you'd like a ficlet of minimum 75 words about. Prompts can be anything - a place, an object, a smell, just a word that strikes your fancy.

It'll have to be a fandom I'm more than a little familiar with - if in doubt, you can always ask if I know X well enough to write something.

(I won't write RPF or underage, but I'm not restricting this to only pairings I ship. If I get a lot of requests for similar pairings, I might make one big post with them all.)

Almost done with a CSI and Doctor Who fic as well. Wheee.

Meanwhile, a newsstory that had me laughing quite a bit: Residents of the Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay) are wondering how long it will take to remove a disused Boeing 737 that has been abandoned in a busy road.

According to the story - It appears that after taking a wrong turn, the driver found himself facing a flyover that was too low for him to take the plane under.

The driver has not been seen since and no-one is assuming responsibility for the 737.

I challenge you all to write down the thought-process that lead the driver to to think this was a brilliant solution to the problem. Because that has to be gold.

Rest of a Life
by Camilla Sandman

Disclaimer: BBC's characters. My words.

Rating: Mature. Some adult activities.

Author's Note: Spoilers for "The Satan Pit" and previous series two episodes, and AU from there, really. Speculation on the return of a villain. Character death.
For the Summer Solstice Fic Exchange, for Dynapink, who wanted to see the following things: The line “I am a doctor, after all.” A sentimental reference to any female Gallifreyan. Formal attire.

Summary: The Doctor wants tea. Rose wants some reassurance. And the people of Regan, they just want to be free. [Nine/Rose]

Disclaimer: Characters and public police boxes from Doctor Who belong to the BBC and I only borrow for some non-profit amusement.

Bringing back an old classic... Drabble meme!

How to play:
1. Pick a fandom offered: CSI, LotR, Babylon 5, X-Files, Harry Potter, Doctor Who (I know a few more, but I'll restrict it to those because I'm mean).
2. Choose a pairing or characters, and one more specific if you'd like. Examples: Grissom and Sara plant a tree or Kosh talks to a fluffy bunny about coffee.
I am willing to do slash, and any genre within reason. Crossovers are also cool.
3. You can also pick a Wild Card- choose a fandom and I will write a drabble that combines it with one of your interests listed on your LJ profile.
I will bust out a drabble somewhere between 75-150 words for you.

Consider it an Easter egg.

As I'm writing East of the Sun, West of the Moon, I'm constantly on the lookout for good lyrics to start chapters with. So - hit me with some of your favourites, or some you'd think be appropriate or some that just comes to mind for certain characters if you know the fandom. And for Grissom chapters, I use poetry, so feel free to hit me with that, too. *offers much love and gratitude and tub-sharing*

You know the quality of fanfic is rather bad when you're happy to read a rather mediocre one and even encourages the writer somewhat. Sigh. Or maybe my standards are too high. Of course, I used to write crap too, with multiple exclamation marks and all. Shudder. At least I have improved - or so I like to think. It's funny how much writing can reflect who you are and how you grow. I read my old stuff and get a sense of how I was when younger (a whiny brat, yes). I read my own stuff now and look into my own mind. I can sometimes be a stranger to myself. Funny that.

But to get back to fanfics - the thing about mediocre fanfic is that you read it and hope for improvement (whereas badfic you read to see how bad it gets), almost willing the author to improve. At least I do. I feel like I'm cheerleading from the sides, so happy it's not awful, given how much crap I read. (But one's mediocre fic is another's horrid GAFF sometimes, of course.) And mediocre fics are easier to review for me than the brilliant ones - with mediocre I can pick on the areas that need improvement as well as what I liked, but with brilliant stories I feel like a praising idiot. (It's my Norwegian aversion to give compliments, I think. I mean, in Norway, "not bad" can be considered a fairly good compliment. We're such an odd people sometimes.)

But then, we all use reviews for different things, don't we? Sometimes, it seems some just use them to comment on the stories, some just use it to say "I'm here", some to get their own reviews and some seem to manage to use reviews to say nothing at all. I'm always grateful for reviews, yes, but sometimes I do want to hold up a blinking neon sign with "AND YOUR POINT WAS?" It's spam in review form. And Cam does not much care for spam.

Maybe that's why fanfic writers can be such a wanky bunch sometimes and fandom is such a minefield. We all bring such different ideas of what it should be, what reviews should be and what standards it should be held to with us that it is walking on slippery ice. Sooner or later you slip. I guess learning to laugh at yourself when you're on your ass is the way to keep sane in it all.

And now, for your laughing pleasure, Thug!Cam. Check our my patriotic hat (gift from [livejournal.com profile] lotus79 - pic was taken in Brisbane by her almost two years ago) and general air of wanting to stomp on Gits. I swear it should come with "I Thug for my Fandom".

One meme 'o writing and one o'icons.

1. Comment and I'll pick one or two of your lj interests and write you a drabble.
2. You have no say as to what I write for you or as to how much it will suck.

I love looking at people's icons, but I don't always *get* them - I often wonder stuff like, "Who's that guy?" or "Where's that quote from?" but I tend not to ask, for various reasons. So come on, here are my icons. Pick one (or more!) you're curious about, and I'll try to explain it. Or at least explain what I like about it.

Sigh. I love sports. You ask me, there should be more shirtless-ness of males in the world.

I'm really feeling inspired to write of late, but of course, none of the things I'm supposed to write. Figures. But anyway - some of you might remember drabbles by request. I'm hereby bringing it back. You ask, Cam will write. Around 100 words, any topic, any setting.

Now, betas. I'm in need of two, really. One for OFUM2 and one for a CSI "epic" I'm sketching out at the moment. Preferably people who do British English and can correct mistakes without going after my style. Give me a hoot at camilla.sandman at gmail dot com if you think you could be helpful. I will adore you boundlessly.

Also, What the smegging F?
