Drabble Meme and Various News

Now, who the sod is this guy? "Staunch conservative"? Be still my heart... I sense that the more liberal side of the US is none too happy, I do.
Am slowly plotting an AU Doctor Who fic with the "Bad Wolf" theme. Plotting is a pain in the ass. But I shall prevail! Should be a long fic, too. Mmm-mmm.
In other news:
UN rejects US offer for Guntanamo visit until it involves detainee access
Iraqi reconstruction hampered by attacks
Neo-Nazi website confusing youth with Holocaust doubts
Male mice serenade females in courtship
The Rules of Sarcasm (Heh.)
Can you pass the UK citizenship test?
Bringing back an old classic... Drabble meme!
How to play:
1. Pick a fandom offered: CSI, LotR, Babylon 5, X-Files, Harry Potter, Doctor Who (I know a few more, but I'll restrict it to those because I'm mean).
2. Choose a pairing or characters, and one more specific if you'd like. Examples: Grissom and Sara plant a tree or Kosh talks to a fluffy bunny about coffee.
I am willing to do slash, and any genre within reason. Crossovers are also cool.
3. You can also pick a Wild Card- choose a fandom and I will write a drabble that combines it with one of your interests listed on your LJ profile.
I will bust out a drabble somewhere between 75-150 words for you.

Date: 2005-11-01 12:05 pm (UTC)Sleeping. 109 words.
Date: 2005-11-01 12:23 pm (UTC)Oh, it wasn't that he wasn't tempted. She was beautiful, returned his flirting, didn't have any hideous deformities, didn't drool in her sleep, didn't snore. And if he'd met her anywhere else, he would have swept her off her feet and watched her sleep in the stillness of night.
And then, being who he had been, he would probably have left her and never know her at all.
But he hadn't met her anywhere else and it was the TARDIS who watched her sleep and the Doctor watched the TARDIS and Jack, Jack watched them all and went on being tempted and nothing more.

200 words. Kant.
Date: 2005-11-01 01:26 pm (UTC)It had been any other day. Any other save the world, with a little pain thrown in. He hadn't minded, he was used to it. Rose wasn't.
“I can't believe you're just letting him go!” she'd raged at him, eyes blazing.
He'd merely shrugged. “Love thine enemy.”
“I can't love a guy that tortured you! That's impossible!”
“You should have a chat with Kant. He reckons there's a love by will. Practical and in principles of actions, not pathological.”
“I would tell him to stick his principles a certain place,” she'd said and of course, he'd been unable to resist the temptation. Kant's ears were probably still burning from all she'd said. He knew his was.
There was love by will and there was love above will, and somewhere on their fifth beer in a German tavern, Rose had kissed him and his will had been powerless.
It was really all Kant's fault.
Just as he planned on it being Aristotle's fault after that. And then maybe Descartes'. Or Hume.
Any other seduction by philosophers, he thought and gave up on free will and let her lead him.

145. Jack's alive. (Drat, need a Ten icon.)
Date: 2005-11-01 01:48 pm (UTC)“Rose?”
“It's Jack!” she gasped, and didn't stop, running on until he caught her. “He came by mum's! He's alive!”
She wasn't sure if it was an embrace or a dance he engaged her in, but she didn't really care what word it was. Spinning around madly, she felt him mirror her delight, her mirror his until she could feel nothing else.
“Come on,“ he said, clutching her hand. “Let's find our wayward companion and let him kiss us both.“
They ran. She couldn't stop laughing, and neither could he, and even changed, his laughter was enough to make her dance across planets with him.

Date: 2005-11-01 12:55 pm (UTC)205. Triple J.
Date: 2005-11-01 02:02 pm (UTC)"Yes, well, after regeneration, the TARDIS tends to adjust a bit too," he muttered, switching on his sonic screwdriver. "I'll have mastered it today, I promise. Or tomorrow. Next week at the latest."
"And how many accidental landings and following near death experiences are we gonna have meanwhile?"
"Just a few."
"Right."
She didn't look too pleased, he noted.
"Rose? I know it's a lot to get used to... But you think you'll get used to this? Eventually?"
For a moment, even the TARDIS seemed silent.
"I will have to be," she finally said, and a shadow of a smile crossed her lips. "Takes more than a new body and new clothes to get rid of me, Doctor."
He grinned, unable to help himself. "Delighted."
"But," she said, and poked a finger against his chest, "if you don't get that ship to stop broadcasting Triple J, Australia's youth radio, in my bedroom very, very soon, this ship is going to have a serious accident involving me, the sonic screwdriver and a lot of accidental jabs to its fine machinery."

Date: 2005-11-01 01:02 pm (UTC)I'd like a Rose/Nine/Jack drabble, actually. Smutbiscuit to go with my tea. Just to be different.
Because Nine is the number of your counting ;)
121 words. Smut.
Date: 2005-11-01 02:17 pm (UTC)Jack's is rough, demanding, coaxing moans out of her with his hands, body warm against her back, breath hot against her neck, teeth hard against her shoulder.
The Doctor's is soft, gentle, ever slightly hesitant, but hard, so hard against her stomach, fingers at her nipples, lips warm against her and welcoming her moans.
Hers is curves and skin feeling so beautiful between them, welcoming both, one hand behind her feeling Jack, one hand feeling the Doctor. Three angles, three sides, and when Jack leans over her shoulder and kisses the Doctor too, she think geometry the most beautiful thing in the Universe.

The Weasley twins and a Wild Card.
Grazie!!!
113 words. Orlando Bloom.
Date: 2005-11-01 02:30 pm (UTC)"Um... Yeah."
"So, as my brother was saying," Fred goes on, beaming in a way that would have any Hogwarts teacher quickly prepare for trouble, "we run a little shop and we're looking for exposure to a bigger market. And you, being pals with Gandalf, we thought could put in a good word."
"Gandalf isn't actually real," Orlando tries for the hundredth time, rubbing his temples. "He's a wizard in a movie, played by Ian McKellen. Just like I am not an overgrown 'house-elf' named Legolas."
"Course you're not," George agrees.
"Good we have established that."
"Being so tall, you have to be at least half-human."
"Arg!"

Date: 2005-11-01 01:35 pm (UTC)162. Grissom and Greg.
Date: 2005-11-01 02:46 pm (UTC)He knocks and Grissom looks up, smiling faintly.
"Heading off, Greg?"
"Yeah. I think... We've done all we can on this case."
"Yes," Grissom agrees. "I knew that yesterday."
"Why didn't you tell me then?"
"Some things you can only learn yourself."
Distantly, a door is slammed. Sara, Greg guesses, wandering off to cope in her own way.
"How do you deal?" he asks. "With cases like these, I mean. The unsolvable. The ones with families who get no answers."
"You wait with the pity till you come home. You keep it out of work."
Greg nods, watching the shadows crawl across the desk. "Does it work?"
"Not really. But as long as you believe the illusion, you survive somehow. Good night, Greg."
"Night, Grissom."

Date: 2005-11-01 02:24 pm (UTC)Nine! (For I am unoriginal!) Rose! Er... wild card!
126 words. Phoenix.
Date: 2005-11-01 03:07 pm (UTC)In his mind, he keeps trying to tell her about the phoenix. It's an Earth myth, she'll understand the bird that dies and is reborn from the ashes. He could even crack jokes about how a beak might become him. She might even laugh. She might not laugh as much when he explains the bird won't look the same, won't quite act the same, won't quite be the same.
She might even declare she prefers him as he is, loves him as he is and that'll fill his heart now and break it later.
So he keeps trying and keeps failing. She laughs at other jokes. He lets her fill his heart in other ways. Time moves on.
And the burn is waiting on her lips.

"When I invited you over for a pinapple on me...?"
"Mmmm?"
"I wasn't being literal."
She finally looks up, and mischief is shining in her eyes. "Then you should choose your words more carefully, Warrick. And shut up and let me take you on your word."

Date: 2005-11-01 04:45 pm (UTC)153 words. Tattoo.
Date: 2005-11-02 12:33 am (UTC)The rumour spread through Hogwarts like a wildfire, pausing now and then to chat with the potraits in the hall. Hermione had gotten a tattoo.
Unfortunately, the rumours couldn't tell of what and where. Rampant naughty discussions ensued and quite a few students spent endless hours in the libabry, trying to find a tattoo revealing spell or in a clinch, a make naked spell. Unfortunately for Seamus, his did work on a passing Snape.
In the end, it was Ron who asked.
"Oh, that," Hermione said with a laugh "I asked my parents if I could and they said yes."
"But..."
"It's just something to remember Hogwarts by. It's here on my shoulder, see?"
"Oh, it's just the Hogwars crest. Oh!"
"Honestly, Ron. I wouldn't get a naughty tattoo on my shoulder."
He breathed a sigh of relief.
"No, I got the naked house elf on my hip."

136 words. Harry Potter.
Date: 2005-11-02 12:42 am (UTC)"Innocent!" Greg shot back, shaking his head.
"Innocent my ass. That was clear and deliberate murder."
"How would you know? You haven't even looked at the evidence."
"I don't need to. I got a gut feeling."
"Grissom wouldn't be too happy to hear that. Follow the evidence and all."
"I follow the evidence all the way to that murdering bastard."
"He had no choice."
"You want to put some money on that, Sanders? Your innocence versus my guilty?"
"Fine," Greg replied, putting down the book. "A hundred bucks says Snape didn't kill Dumbledore out of his own choosing."
"A hundred bucks says he did."
For a moment, the break room was silent again. Then Warrick leaned forward.
"How do you feel about Harry and Ginny, then?"

Drabble for me. GSR... wildcard. (big surprise, huh?)
122 words. House.
Date: 2005-11-02 12:59 am (UTC)"Like who?"
"House and Cameron, Grissom. You could pay attention to what's on the TV sometimes. Even if the new issue of Bodylicious Bugs is out."
"You know that's not what it's called."
"Might as well be."
"It's a highly professional entomology magazine, Sara. And no, we are not like them."
"He's older, she's pursuing him, he's not giving in. Ring a bell?"
"Yes, but she doesn't mock his choice of reading. Or get him to chase her. Or tie him to a headboard in the name of seduction."
"It's early days yet."
"Mmmm."
"Grissom?"
"Yes?"
"House would never feel Cameron up like that."
"I know. That's why I'm doing it to you."

Date: 2005-11-02 01:37 am (UTC)Just before sleep, he thinks he can do it.
Just before morning, every dream flees.
Morning is ever reality. He's her boss. He's older. He will shatter her heart and she will burn his, and a million other reasons he tries to tell himself are not a coward's. And her heartbeat remains out of sync with his and he thinks on, ever in the still of his empty bed.

Date: 2005-11-02 01:55 am (UTC)Grissom sounds a bit annoyed, Greg notes, and hurried stoves his headset under the desk. "I was only playing Manson to help me focus."
"No, you weren't," Grissom replies, looking annoyed too, "but for once, it's not about your screaming pale friend. What is that thing in the breakroom?"
"Oh, that," Greg says, brightening. "That's my experiment."
"Greg, it looks like all the worst colours in the world mated and had a spawn. People are walking by an averting their eyes."
"Yes! That means I did it."
"Did what?"
"Sara couldn't believe there was a colour so hideous it would make people unable to look at it. I started looking at the colour spectrum, trying to see which to combine and..."
"Greg?"
"Yes?"
"Try to get some work done inbetween your colour revolution in the name of Sara baiting, will you?"
"Yes, boss. Hey, how do you feel about urple as a name? I was thinking of getting it patented."
"I'm supervising a madhouse," Grissom mutters. "Work. Now."
"Yes."
"Oh, and beep me when Sara sees it."
"Want to see her reaction, huh?"
"Oh yes. I've been wanting to see her kill you for weeks."

Date: 2005-11-01 06:27 pm (UTC)133. Jack returns.
Date: 2005-11-02 05:10 am (UTC)Step, step, hands intertwined and laughter no less so. Rose looks the same, the Doctor doesn't. Jack still knows it's him, if only from the way Rose is smiling. It is the smile only the Doctor would earn and no mutter how hard Jack would flirt, tease and grin, the smile she gave him was always different. He'd learned not to mind, learned to enjoy the sight of it and the Doctor beaming back. Learned to enjoy the dance he could be in and watch the dane he couldn't.
They're dancing again, the street empty, the TARDIS bright blue behind them, London dark behind it and very soon he's going to show them he's still alive. Very soon.
He's just going to watch them for a little while longer.
