The Vatican is totally batshit. Contraception, clearly an environmental danger and an evil of the world, clearly. Bound to be the next supervillain Batman has to fight. Except, you know, not. Actually an important tool in fighting HIV, STDS, unwanted pregnancies and overpopulation. You know Vatican, between this and not wanting to support the decriminalization of homosexuality, you should check your own water supply first, yeah?
Meanwhile in Doctor Who fandom, Eleven seems to have brought the expected wankery. I find it vaguely hilarious that a lot of stuff said about him now is almost word for word stuff that was thrown at Tennant when he was announced. The more things change, the more they stay the same? And yes, there's already Eleven/companion-of-choice fic and comms about. Of course.
Also, in fandom not-news, breaking friendslock is not cool. What the hell is up with the recent trend, DW fandom?
In BSG news, small clip from the next episode on preview. Ooooh. Ten days. WANT. NOW.
Seem to have been nominated for some fanfic naughty award. Bit surprising since explicit sex is not exactly what I'd consider any speciality of mine, but eh well. I guess Nine/Ten/Rose qualified for some sort of kink. You can apparently still nominate there, so go mad?
♥ the fanficcers love meme, continued ♥
(As a fanfiction writer, have you ever wondered what your 'winning' fic or your most well-loved fanfic is? this meme is for fanficcers who want to know which of their works are others' favorites as well as for readers who want to show more appreciation to the fanficcers. Link me your thread if you have one, we all need a little love sometimes.)
ETA: Shit, this looks like bad LJ news. Don't like the sound of that much at all. More info here.
For
elvenpiratelady: Edmund and soap, post "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe":
Narnia isn't lost, Edmund knows.
He can close his eyes in the shower and see; mountains, valleyes, peaks of white against a blue horizon, the mane of his horse moving as landscapes seemed to move rather than them.
He can touch his skin under the water and feels scars that are no longer there; a fading white dot where a wolf's tooth had gripped too hard and broken the skin, a red line where a burning log had brushed across, a thin white line that not even Lucy's gift could remove – the last reminder of the White Witch.
He can recall the smells; Earth, spring rain in the grass, horses, distant smell of flowers on the wind, soap still smelling like olives and lye.
The soap never smells anymore here, but Edmund still washes and tries to feel no loss.
He's got it all in his head, after all.
For
siraj: His character in World of Warcraft and a mug:
Geritz never leaves Ogrimmar without a mug of beer first.
It's the dust, he knows. Red, never settling, getting his fur and eyes and mouth, making him feel as parched as the ground. The orcs seem happy enough with it, moving in the dust as if it's home now. Is home now, of all the places in Kalimdor they have chosen this to live in.
But it isn't his, and only the beer tastes like Thunder Bluff; he never leaves without a taste
For
lily_winterwood: Adama/Roslin (BSG) and a sketchbook:
Laura can't draw.
He finds her sketchbook forgotten on his desk one day, or perhaps merely left because she half lives here now and her things seem to move in too. The drawings are traced from books about Pythia, but he can see in the wavering lines that the hand making them is not comfortable.
Words, he thinks. Words are her, and she's shaped her life to some in particular.
The Dying Leader shall not see the Promised Land.
"I am not much of a drawer," she says behind him, and he can hear the amusement in her voice.
She does see him, he thinks, and he turns around to meet her smile.
For
bloodanna: Donna (Doctor Who) and a sled, post "Journey's End":
Wilf takes her and a sled out one day.
She isn't exactly sure why. He (and her mother) have been looking strangely at her for weeks, a mix of pity and respect she doesn't quite understand. They act as if she's lost something and she can't remember any loss at all.
But Wilf seems determined to make her happy to forget some grief she doesn't have, and she goes along with it because he's Wilf and reliving a childhood can be a nice way to spend an afternoon.
They drag the sled up the hill, and rides it down under half the time, laughing every time they fall over and every time they don't. It's fun, and she feels happy. It is strange, but she hadn't realised she was unhappy until she stopped feeling it.
"It's almost like travelling in time," she jokes as they're about to go down again, but Wilf doesn't laugh.
"Almost," he says, and holds on.

In less depressing news, the Donna & Wilf drabble is simply lovely!

Date: 2009-01-06 05:44 pm (UTC)... And damn if what you wrote isn't accurate, every time I go into Org, I pick up SOMETHING in the inn that's alcoholic!
*Is incredibly amused, and can't wait for the weekend, when his guldie is going to run himself and another dear friend in a barrage of Ramparts and Blood Furnace, reset, and run it all again... until they run out of resets.*
