For
sparrowinsky: A Forsaken, a human and winter festival decorations. (World of Warcraft)
It is a strange thing, memories. Rotted flesh touching a winter veil ribbon, almost feeling as if the years peel away, the skin heals and undeath turns to life. Human, yes. He was human once. A farmer, looking to the earth for his life, not knowing one day he would rise from it again and become this. Forsaken. Loved by none, not even themselves. He knows what he is.
But for one brief moment, he can remember something else; a human celebrating winter veil, all the darkness still ahead.
For
robin_2370_hood: TARDIS landing in a snowdrift. Optional Doctor and companion became Ten and Donna. (Doctor Who)
The TARDIS doesn't get cold, but Time Lords do and humans do, and the Doctor is starting to get the tiniest of tine suspicions that's why they've really landed in this snowdrift on the South Pole and not in fact at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Unless they're meant to compete in Olympic wind shovelling; the snow you shovel up, wind drifts right back at you.
He is starting to think he and Donna might be right champions at it, and he knows Donna will be winner of imply-Time-Lords-are-complete-wankers right about the minute he tells her they don't really have to clear the snow around for the TARDIS to get off again and they will very soon be abducted by penguins with world domination plans who are eyeing them readily.
Maybe he'll just let her figure it out on her own. It's always more fun, that, and makes the yelling a lot more interesting.
For
kahva: Sarah Jane, Ten and a klingon bath'leth. (Doctor Who)
"That's Luke's," she says when he touches the Klingon bath'leth, and the look she gets in return tells her the Doctor is not fooled for a second. She merely folds her arms and looks back, and after a moment he grins.
She isn't sure why he's suddenly started to pop in randomly, but she can have a good guess. Last she saw him, he had Rose and Donna still with him; now he comes alone.
She doesn't ask, he doesn't tell, and the silence is full of grief.
"Klingons tried to invade Earth," she finally concides, and his eyes light up like a child's, staying bright through the whole story she tells him.
Sometimes she's not sure why he comes. Sometimes she knows all too well and lets him talk all the way through it.
For
zinke: Adama, Roslin and a letter opener. Probably season three-ish. (Battlestar Galactica)
One day, he sees her open a letter with her fingers; a glimmer at the corner of his eye as he walks away on Colonial One. She tears it open a little ungracefully and a little clumsily, and for a moment the look on her face is all concentration and a little impatience and Laura Roslin is not great at waiting, he knows.
More and more, he sees little glimpses like this; flashes of her in the corner of his eye and he isn't sure it's because she's letting him see now or if he's finally started looking.
The President. But Laura Roslin too, and Laura needs a letter opener.
He leaves one on his next visit, no note or ceremony to it. Gifts need neither to be sincere; and anyway, she sees him leaving it in the corner of her eye and smiles.
For
lotus79: Kara, Lee and a lump of clay. (Battlestar Galactica)
Sometimes she thinks of him as a lump of clay.
Lee can be shaped. Give him an idea, and he forms himself to it. Pilot, for his father and his brother. Rebel, for a cause that wasn't even his. President, for a time long enough. Lover, for her when she forgets herself.
Clay. Shape it, but it can fall apart, it can be reshaped and in the end the fire is what firms it.
Sometimes she thinks Lee hasn't passed through it yet.
Sometimes she thinks she is the clay, and when he looks at her, she is for the briefest of seconds what he sees in her.
(More to come.)

Date: 2008-12-28 06:52 pm (UTC)I really like the Starbuck/Lee drabble, surprisingly.
Maaaybe 2009 and new BSG will stir all of our muses! I'm sure all the unfinished threads at the end of 4.5 will give us something to write about, at any rate.

Date: 2008-12-28 07:10 pm (UTC)Let's see:
I wrote a lot of Mary Sue Parodies for LotR and one or two for HP, and then I got busy trying to make my RL friends understand fanfic, which then led to me turning our school into an impromptu fandom with Mary Sues and the lot.
And then there was NaNoWriMo where I did get to 50k but my characters all sucked.
And now there's a BSG plotbunny giving me rabies.

Date: 2008-12-29 12:18 am (UTC)2008 was the year I wrote a lot of drabble and not much else, and also failed spectacularly in the one ficathon I participated in (I am just so very glad it was not an exchange. Still feel guilty though.)
