WHAT

WHAT the second

Q: Having set Another Hope in an already existing universe, I find myself wondering if there was any concern on your part regarding copyrights?

No, because I wrote this book for myself. This is a self-published story and is not a commercial book. Yes, it is for sale on Amazon, but only my family, friends and acquaintances know it’s there.
(Here it is, so now all you know too.)

...

My mind runnenth over with the stupid.

Apparently, she partly owns the company publishing this, which makes her a publisher - and she still thinks this is okay? For real? Publishing Star Wars fanfic?

WHAT. Seriously, WHAT? Not to mention it looks like it has some bloody Mary Sue in there too. Well, it just had to, didn't it?

The stupid, it burns us! Also, I look forward to hearing her wails about the cease-and-desist notices she will shortly be receiving.

I hope she'll get eaten by Wookies nice letters from George Lucas's lawyers, for her sheer stupidity...

I expect those will be arriving with the speed of light now that news are spreading of it all over the Net.

But she appears to have sold quite a few books, so... Oi. Is so gonna get sued.

Oh, I would count on it. The story is spreading, and all, so bound to reach attentative ears with lawyering power.

oh my. Shut the fuck up she must... really, how can anyone be so stupid? Will be interesting to see what'll happen once the real copyright holder finds out...

HEADDESKFISTMOUTHHEADCONCRETE. Not the second you pimped it in a pseudointerview, fucker.

She's so lucky Lucas is so liberal with copyright, anyone else would sue her. She'll just end up getting a C&D order.

C&D at the very least. Which is why I downloaded the free copy from her site to have something to remember the stupid by.

Perhaps. Though given that her book appears to have been for sale for over ayear and have probably sold quite a few copies, they might go for a little more.

mwhahaha. "It's not commercial, I just sell it" is one of the dumbest things read in a while... is it a good read at least?

No. There's a Sue about and the whole thing seems rather blaaaah so far.

... the plot of her book is that she killed Luke and Obi Wan and fabricated two cousins for Leia, who happened not to be on Alderaan when it blew? What the fuckity fuck? How does someone even come up with something that absurd? It's like Doctor Who where the Doctor died after his first regen and Susan and her mysterious nieces sat around Gallifrey eating porriage instead.

I mean, if it was a book set in the Star Wars universe but not dealing with the characters, I might give her some leeway, but this is a joke. It's Star Wars fanfiction, and shitty sounding stuff, at that. I think I wrote better Star Wars fic when I was 16 and invented some random chick to pair Luke off with.

Sigh.

Oh my.
Well, there's not much else to say there, aside from that I hope she's prepared to take it down, and had better hope the holder will stop at C&D and not decide to Make An Example Of Her by going for damages. She's violating copyright, and she's selling it.

Plus, there's an icky sort of, I don't know, entitlement about that whole interview.

She wrote it for herself? Sorry, that ended when she decided to publish it. Then it went from private to public. Silly girl.

OK, this person is making my brain hurt...how dumb can you get and still earn a living?

After she recieves a C & D, is she going to run for elected office? Sounds like Congress material to me!

... How do you own a publishing company and not know this stuff? Better question: How are you in bloody fandom and not know this stuff? *boggles*

(*is pleased at the opportunity to finally use her idiot icon*)

The depths of her stupidity truly amaze me. I wonder how long it will take a C & D to arrive? And how long after that C & D arrives that she'll start to complain. *goes to make some popcorn*

I thought so. would be surprising to see something decent from someone whose perception of this world is so... so.. WRONG. gah. someone should really write a letter to Mr. Lucas

Don't underestimate the ignorance of fantwits. Just don't. They'll always find ways to surprise you.

But this is unreal! Isn't it about the first thing you learn in fandom- if it's legal? I know I did the first time I saw a disclaimer and pieced together what it meant.

And I was eleven, for God's sake.

She probably thinks it doesn't apply to her, since 'only her friends and family know about the book'.

From: [identity profile] lucia-tanaka.livejournal.com
Right, because no one does Amazon searches for "Star Wars" anymore. That's absurd.

From: [identity profile] anitchka.livejournal.com
Putting aside the obvious, why would you put your book up for sale and then offer it for free? Gee, right click for 0$ or get it sent to me for 20$ + S&H. Hmmm.

From: [identity profile] yattara.livejournal.com
That's Earth-logic you're employing ;) Fantwits have their own logic, and it doesn't intersect with ours at all.

Good grief. Idiocy reigns supreme once more.

Fandom is one of the best things there is. Fanfiction, both reading and writing is another. But Fan 101 says right off the bat you *can't* make money out of someone else's universe! Most companies now seem to turn a blind eye to fandoms (realising if they don't they'll only alienate their income streams is my guess) as long as noone is making money out of their creations/property. By making money out of it a case is made for those who *do* want to stop people being creative in fandoms for fun.

*sigh*

And if she is such a terrific writer why is she not writing her own original characters in her own original universe?!?!
