What the heck was that, Sweden? How did you NOT manage to score? I roll my eyes in your direction.

Trinidad & Togabo's players were celebrating their 0-0 draw very cutely, though. Heh. First ever World Cup match, first ever point.

Also, England, you did not impress even if you did beat Paraguay, okay? Do better. Do better as well, Sweden.

Playing 0-0 when the opposing team gets one player kicked off the field is not a credit to Sweden.

Noooo.

Not like they didn't have enough opportunities there either. Good grief.

Dårlig, søta bror. Dårlig!

Snerk.

My flist is full of World Cup squee, though. Most of Europe is all worked up about it.

Ooh, I like that icon. It has Australia in it, yay!

So, they spent the entire game just kicking the ball back and forth and nobody scored at all? It all seems so futile, heh. And yes I know that nil-all is pretty common.

I picked it for that very reason.

And yes, no one scored. Sweden had like a gazillion opportunities, though. BAD SWEDEN. NO ICE CREAM FOR YOU.

Now, Argentina versus Ivory Coast!

I'm going to find it interesting on Tuesday when Switzerland (my now-adopted WC team) is playing France... will I have the same reactions as I do when Norway play - or will it be a letdown?

Especially as I considered it a letdown last night when Costa Rica didn't win.

Poor Sweden. No ice cream is a cruel and unusual punishment.

Where is Ivory Coast? I've always wondered...

LOL. I went from "Sweden is so going to win" to "oh no, 11 against 10 and still no goal?" to "okay, they suck". It was an exciting game, though. :)

I watched the first half of the England match at home. Oh dear god, American commentators? Hilarious. "So, here's Crouch. He's 6'7"! Look at him go..." And then they'd call Beckham "Michael Beckham". Wha? Second half I listened to at work, and luckily nothing happened.

I do love World Cup season. Brings joy to me being a European. (Teaching all the students and teachers (who were watching the Germany-Costa Rica match yesterday) dirty footie chants is a fine reason to skip class. ;)

Oh England has got to do so much better, they were good in the first half but Paraquay were all over them most of the second, it looked like the heat was getting to my boys, more used to playing in rain, snow and biting winds. There is always a team that become Giant killers in the first round of WC, looks like Trinidad is in the running for this! Looking forward to Thursdays game.

My two teams...(trust me to pick teams in the same group...) and it's a 0-0 draw... *sigh* *hope ebbs*

Oooh and...obscurely...

Cam? As resident BBC fangirl, why do you love the BBC so much...I do too...but I need to put it into words so I'm canvassing opinions...? Help?!

I demand Uruguay and Paraguay play each other, a WHO'S MORE GUAY deathmatch. I feel that this would make the World Cup vastly more entertaining.

Sweden would be doing much better if it was snow football.

Half the time when Norway's playing I'm just rolling my eyes at them. Bah.

Costa Rice tried and worked hard, I'll give them that. They impressed me more in that group than Urugay and Poland did.

Who the eff is Michael Beckham?

For shame, American commentators. I remember being in Australia during the last WC, and Australian telly had rubgy commentators do the job. Oi.

Paraguay was rather crap, though. Even if they were dominating, they didn't manage much.

England will hopefully improve as the tournament goes along, though. Many teams do.

Oh dear. Well, they're a public service provider, rather than being in the business of delivering viewers for the ads, as commercials channels are. Means a wider range of programming, for one thing. I think it's terribly important to have something like the BBC, something that isn't commercial in such a commercial world.

Basically, I like their news. I like their documentaries. I like their shows. I like the organisation, and the way they make what they do feels like craftmanship.

Plus, BBC stuff can be such crack. In a good way.

They'll both have to play better if they want to advance and get the opportunity to play each other, though.

Haha :P

I'm not crazy about football, but this is the WC...and tomorrow I'm leaving for a week-long voluntary work project in the middle of nowhere with no TV/radio...and I'm going to miss Italy playing Ghana and the US! DOOM!

Hah, for a moment of schadenfreude. Sweden kicked our ass in '94 to get third place so now I'm happy when they lose. Not even Lundberg's extreme hotness with dissuade me, nuh-uh.

Plus, Trinidad and Tobago were so cutely adorable celebrating that one point. Awwww.

Hmm...yes. I was a bit surprised at the lack of scoring in the Sweden - Trinidad & Tobago match. So many had pretty much thought that it wasn't a question of whether Sweden would win, but by how many goals. I feel bad for the Swedes but I couldn't help but enjoy the enthusiasm of T&T's players and fans. They were so damn happy.

I don't know what happened to England there in the end. They got quite a bit flustered and weren't playing nearly as well as they were in the first half. And I wish their one goal had not been a rebound off the head of the Paraguayan player. Sort of takes away from the shininess of it.

I saw the second half of Sweden vs. T&T (at 1 in the morning x_X). Sweden did not impress: the ball was down their end nearly the whole half and still nothing happened!
