Blabbery at work
Jun. 28th, 2006 08:17 amI am almost being Dawn of The Office this week, doing a temp job in reception/desk. Haven´t spotted a Martin Freeman yet, but I´ll let you all know if I do. Mmmm, Martin Freeman. Have I mentioned I really do love The Office before? Because I really do. I missed it while it was all the rage, but I got it on DVD later on, and Love. Oh yes. I loveth BBC muchly for all the things they make me love.
I´m writing this on a Mac, which I haven´t used in ages, and it´s a bit odd getting used to again. But it is a shiny thing. I am playing with it because there´s not exactly much to do here at the moment - early in the morning and all the calls haven´t started coming yet. Sane people are probably still sleeping. I know I wish I was. (I was having the weirdest dream about YTDAW, walking a younger girl home because others were teasing her and my student loan. Most odd. Not sure it made much sense.)
So, football last night - France and Brazil through. Neither a shocker, but I felt sad for Ghana (they really did do well, just a shame they had to face Brazil this early on) and Spain (kicked out of a major tournament early on AGAIN). Spain just never quite gets there. Would´ve been nice for them to make it at least once, but there´s always next time around, eh Spain?
There´s two days without football now and I feel almost deprived. World Cup is damn addictive. I shall probably go into cravings the moment it ends. Or be insanely fed up by then. Never know. But I am hoping for a kickass finale. Germany - Brazil would be nice.
But anyway. I am at work with no access to IM, but plenty to LJ, so if anyone want to comment-chat with me, this be the place.Hey Saz.

Date: 2006-06-28 06:51 am (UTC)Every single game? All of downtown goes BERSERK. Cars stopped in the middle of the road, painted in blue, yellow, and green, honking, screaming at each other, waving flags and streamers.....it's mayhem. And it blocks off our parking lot, so we get about an hour of standing around while waiting for it to clear again before we can really do business again.
I kinda like it, but I'm a little tired of the car horns.

Date: 2006-06-28 07:00 am (UTC)There was a British couple in the store on Sunday when they won their last game-they couldn't understand the fuss. The wife was very astonished, "It isn't even the finals yet!"

Date: 2006-06-28 07:02 am (UTC)Man, the British should understand football madness all too well. Their whole country goes madder than mad. I`ve seen them at it. It`s quite something.

Date: 2006-06-28 07:10 am (UTC)and try to talk myself out of entering in the Doctor Who fandom by writing a fic involving the Doctor and the Socceroos.I think the whole of Australia has suddenly truly understand the glorious madness of football. Although after the
stuff updubious refereeing decisions of the final game a lot of the letters to the newspapers where all like "WTF?"no subject

Date: 2006-06-28 07:18 am (UTC)Yes, I seem to get the impression as well. And might as well get used to the WTF-refereeing, as it is a recurring theme, oh yes. But it does sometimes happen in your favpur as well, so...

Date: 2006-06-28 07:20 am (UTC)Sometimes good, sometimes bad--but with a fatalistic, supernatural kind of awful luck. They're one of two great baseball teams believed to have an actual curse of decades' standing--the other was the Boston Red Sox, but they broke theirs in '04.

Date: 2006-06-28 09:03 am (UTC)And Ghana was very unlucky to find herself losing 1-0 in the first 5 min and then again just before the end of half-time. Not to mention the second goal was offside and the red card was really far-fetched. Brasil shouldn't need the referee's help to win.
I'm looking forward for Argentina Vs Germany.I'm not sure who I'd prefer to win. Maybe whoever plays better football that night.
