So there are some updates to the MsScribe tale...

And in the comments, a wee crusading anonymouse posts a truckload of personal information on MsScribe - what doctors treated her, what Uni she went to, who she worked for, some addresses, ladida. (Comments here and here reacting to.) Plenty of information to track her down. Mods screened the post rather quickly, but I saw it, so who knows who else did. And man, that is so NOT on. There is quite the lynch mob mentality about already (some might argue it is justified, some might not, I leave it to your own judgements), but dude, there are fucking limits. Not to mention there are laws protecting medical and certain other kinds of personal information.

Just because someone has been deemed to do a fandom wrong is not cause to start doing wrongs yourself, all righty? Use google-fu for good, young padawan. Harassement is the dark side of the fu.

Good fucking grief.

WTF another shooting?

The gunman entered the class and ordered all the boys and some adults to leave. He then tied up the girls and began shooting them in the head.

That is some serious level of fucked up. What the hell is the logic behind that? Not that I really want to know, I think. He had three kids of his own and everything.

Humans be fucked up.

Oh, and that possible fake!death in CSI fandom - oh so fake confirmed.

In other news, I've had a busy two days, so speak up if I missed anything interesting.

Bailey needs more icons.

I need to go to bed. Argh.

And now anon posting is off, which makes me sad because I wanted to engage in the discussion further. But I understand the reasoning behind it, especially considering they posted the information TWICE.

It's always a shame when bad mice ruin it for the good. I saw you comment - I'm lucky enough to have an account of old.

Sheesh.

That is lucky. I am a major lurker on JF, but really don't post much. Not enough to get an account from anon_no_more, sadly. The thing that gets me about the whole business is that anyone with access to that kind of information has been trained and should really know better. Even without training, anyone with any sense of boundaries knows that you don't post that kind of thing in a public forum. Not ever.

the school shooting was crazy. in paradise,pa, no less. how ironic. and that's such a nice area, too. and it's an amish school, no less. people are awful.

speaking of awful people, i tend to stay away from fandoms, because they can be a little to, uh, overwhelming. but all that nonsense about posting personal information is appaling. even if you highly dislike someone, that by no means gives you the right to post private information on a public forum. wow. people these days.

Just... do these people have nothing better to do? What exactly is the point of doing all that digging for something like this? And what exactly did MsScribe do?

Re: fake-death in CSI fandom
That's just retarded. I love how her "friend" keeps reiterating that it was a genuine mistake. If you wanna leave LJ, you just go, "see ya l8rz" and delete your LJ. This person is an attention whore and while the people who're calling the police are equally deranged, I don't really feel any remorse for her. Feh.

Re: shooting at the Amish school
...That's just so bad. What the hell is happening in the world that people just snap one day and end up killing people? Why is this happening? If this is the direction that our society is going, I sure as hell hope I'm dead before we hit rock bottom.

I can't comment on why people would post personal information (so, so bad), but as far as what MsScribe did:

I wasn't even involved in that part of the HP fandom (I wandered into HP due to the PoA movie & Remus/Sirius love), but she created many sock puppets who led several "crusades" against certain HP sections of fandom (like she would pose as a H/G fan and then post rascist comments on famous H/Hr fans ljs).

Pretty much all of the major wanks in HP fandom (that led to HP being crowned the wankiest fandom ever), MsScribe, in one form or another, was directly responsible for them.

Basically, she stirred a lot of shit, fandom-wise and made sectors of fandom even more distrustful than they might have been.

There are two theories as to why this person would post it.

1) The person is trying to verify a fandom story and is willing to breech ethics and the law to do so. I hope this isn't the case because someone that willing to break the rules and hurt another for something as petty as internet fandom is in real need of help.

2) The person is MsScribe or someone who knows her well and is posting all this to try to drum up outraged sympathy for her. I've verified to my own satisfaction that the personal information shared is valid on it's face. Someone who knows her, or is her, would have access to this information and she -does- have a history of manipulating people and acting as the victim.

Either way, it's way over the line.

Some people really need to take a step back from their computers, take a deep breath and work out what's most important in their lives. Because if it's their fandom then they need help. :(

As for that school shooting, I despair. An Amish school, for god's sake, though any school would be just as terrible. But you couldn't get a more non-violent community. I want everyone to watch Bowling for Columbine.

On that subject, I wonder how long it'll take for some NRA bigwig to find an excuse to turn up in Lancaster County, PA. :P

I didn't see the personal information in question, nor do I ever want to see that information.

Honestly, from the entire report (and all of the parts that were verified by multiple sources), nothing could surprise me as to whether 1 or 2 is correct.

the shooting is all over the telly news here, but that bit about only girls being killed is definitely new info to me... curious... and downright scary. If anyone needs me, I'll be drinking in a corner with my sabre handy for protection...

And that somehow justifies doing oodles of pointless and tedious digging that sounds halfway/totally illegal? o_O Seriously?

I mean, I never understood the whole "fandom iz seriouz bizness" mentality. Maybe it's because I'm not wired for that stuff, but really, I thought fandom was supposed to be fun. Not some espionage-Cold-War shit. Being the biggest shit-stirrer in the fandom is not an accomplishment one should be proud of, IMO. Sure you get personal entertainment and satisfaction at having people jump to your tune, but what does that do for you in the long run? Not a thing.

But the person who posted all that information (I'm skeptical of its authenticity) should be bitchslapped with a frozen trout because that shit is totally WRONG.

And, I hit post comment too early.

Gah.

I never take fandom as serious bidness, especially after learning how pointless it is to get militant about fandom (so many lessons learned during BtVS/AtS).

What the hell is the logic behind that?

As I said on my lj, there's no logic to it at all. I can't find any reasoning or anything. I just have no idea what goes on.

re: the school shootings of late -
It's getting to the point where I'm halfway frightened to send my kids to school. They are only in third and fifth grade, so odds are a student wouldn't be bringing in a weapon at that young age, but judging by the shootings in Colorado and Penn., it doesn't matter as those were adults who came into the schools with no prior connections to them.
Our primary school has all the doors locked but the front doors, and then there is a security guy to get by, but an armed individual could do so - although the security guy is wonderful and would probably die trying to protect the kids. The intermediate school has all the doors locked, and the only place a person can go without breaking a door or window is the office, but no security guard, and again, an armed individual could get through there.

*sigh* It truly makes me consider home-schooling, but I don't think I'd be much good at teaching them the stuff they need to learn once they reached middle school age. I hope whatever the long ago incident that provoked his twisted mind into doing this is revealed, because I have a hard time trying to come up with what the Amish could have done to him to provoke such a thing.

I'm all for people who do wrong within fandom being exposed, but there's a very fine line between expsoing their bad on-line deeds and trying to ruin their off-line life. With Cassie Claire, I'm extremely pissed that her plagrisim resulted in a book deal, but I don't see how it would really be my right to play judge, jury and executioner by trying to take that deal away from her no matter how much I don't think she should have one. The best way to express my outrage is by not buying the book and losing her a few dollars. It might not make a dent of difference in the long run, but my conscience will be clear without me having resorted to lynch mob style behavior.

You want fandom to know that these people have behaved badly? Fine. You don't want these people in your fandom? Well, if they've behaved badly, they should face the consequences that comes with that behavior being recognised.

But you should not, not ever, try to or encourage others to make their off-line lives a misery, too. That's as good as stalking. It's petty, immature and just makes you look like a jealous bully. There's a line, people. Don't cross it or YOU could end up knee deep in shit more so than the person you're trying to bring down.

Have to remember, the majority in fandom are quite nice. The annoying ones are just the loudest and the ones you notice.

The MsScribe tale

I also fail to see how faking your own death is a must for leaving fandom. Last I looked, fandoms don't come with lifetime service requirement.
