Life After, Grissom/Sara post season seven finale:

There is a moment where death seems preferable.

Surprisingly, it's not the moment where everything hurts - hurting is still fighting, clinging on, feeling something. It's the moment after, when the mind slides away from the body and the body can't tug it back. There's something almost like apathy, but not quite. Something beyond. Something like forgetting emotions exist. Something like knowing no difference.

Something like a little voice that sound ancient and like a child both, whispering, 'Why not just let go?'

Why not. Oh, why not.

Lights, sounds, and pain again, and her name over and over again, as if its an anchor, weighing her down again.

"Sara. Sara. SaraSaraSaraSara..."

Grissom. There's a why, and she hates it, sensations returning like a crushing rush. Taste of blood in her mouth. Bright lights burning her eyes. Sharp pain every inhale, dull pain every exhale. Metal on skin, cutting. Crushing. Everywhere, crushing.

She closes her eyes, just to rest them for a moment, and when she opens them again, everything's white and people are smiling at her, hospital smiles she knows too well.

She's not going to die.

She's just not sure if she's going to live, either.

Stuff, Martha/Doctor:

"Oh, I know all about breasts," the Doctor says confidentily, and just with the slight air of supreme knowledge. "Did you know that a Martindale Hive Mother can have up to sixty-seven of them? Marvelous things!"

"Breasts or Martindale Hive Mothers?" Martha asks, not trying to follow the leaps in his mind without a safety line. The landings can be hard.

"Both," he replies after a moment, grinning cheekily.

"That's all well and good, Doctor," she counters, adopting his slight air of supreme knowledge, "but that doesn't explain *why* you had your hand down my top."

Improbable Places to Shag, Doctor/Rose:

There are a lot of guys Rose could imagine shagging in her bed while her mother is away -Mickey, that video guy she had a crush on just when she discovered what sex was, Orlando Bloom, drunk Mickey, Mr Plastic Penis (the dildo Shareen gave her last time Mickey was a dick), Stephen from downstairs, sad-because-his-team-lost-Mickey, all members of Coldplay to mention some - but she never did quite enter the Doctor on it and he's still dived under a blanket of pink, his sideburns scratching the insides of her tighs and oh yeah, incoming shag.

Huh.

It's not that she hasn't imagined shagging the Doctor - both in this body and the previous one he had - because she has. It's hard not to when he looks human, wears leather jackets or tight suits, sweeps her up into a life more wonderful and dreadful than she could imagine, gives her a key, Looks at her and teaches her to dance with stars. But almost everything she has imagined has taken place in the settings of her new life - the TARDIS, the future, the past, alien planets or space stations.

Somehow, this is all wrong. And yet. Yet yet yet because she's biting her tongue to hard she can almost taste blood and yet yet yet because his palms are resting at her hips, steadying her and yet yet yet because she's about to be shagged by an alien and that's weird enough to cancel out normal surroundings.

Remember to kick me to finish, seriously.

So, this FanLib blah - I've been distracted by WoW and didn't really notice it until it made it to f_w. (If you also missed it, this has a good summary of it also, though of course opinionated and this is one of their ad campaigns. Ooohkay.) I did get an invite to join it, though, because I remember skimming the e-mail and doing a slight WTF at offering of prizes. Then I promptly forgot it, which was probably wise.

I do see Doctor Who fandom has some stories up, as do CSI fandom. Hmm. Allegedly, three million was put into this place, which if true, makes me boggle a little.

Baaaad idea, y/n? (In other words, opinionate on me.)

Guess I'll see how this one goes before I decide to post my fanfic there or not, but my initial reaction is certainly not a desire to do so.

Hmm indeed.

Also I posted wank, because I rarely do and it's a fandom I have nothing to do with. Just the thought of explaining CSI wankery in any form that makes sense makes my head hurt.

FanLib--seems like a very bad idea, I think. If the TOS really is fishy, than I wouldn't trust the place, and if the TOS is just badly worded because whoever wrote it fails at communication, then I still wouldn't trust it. Either way, something seems weird about the place. But I'm very possessive and nuts about where I put my writing on the internet, so *shrug*

I think they've just changed their TOS. Though I could be wrong, I didn't see the original.

The words "profit" and "fanfic" in the same sentence tend to make me wary by default, really.

I am liking the GSR fic so far. In fandom terms, that means I should be excommunicated for ever, or something equally ridiculous *tired*

Out of idle curiousity - or perhaps because I can't resist a good train wreck - I just went over to FanLib and browsed their Pirates of the Caribbean section. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I don't know every single POTC author out there, but the simple fact that I'm not recognizing a single solitary name over there says a lot to me. Also, some of the summaries I glanced over had me cringing in anticipation of OOC-ness and potential character bashing. Could be wrong, but when the summary is what makes you decide if you're going to read a fic or not? Well...

Didn't bother to check any other sections, the POTC one told me enough. And I'm glad I never got an invite to the joint - the more I hear about it, the sleazier it sounds.

OMG HEATHEN.

Then again, I've enjoyed Grissom/Catherine, which makes me equally heathen.

Fandom is a lot like religious wars. Or possibly football rivalries. Which means drinking is a must.

Thanks :)

I recognised some of the names in the CSI section. At least one's on my flist, even. In the DW section as well, really, but not people I know too well. I think, I only skimmed.

I know a lot of relatively popular authors in other fandoms rather shunned the place and even asked others to do the same, though. So hmm.

I got an account at FanLib, but am waffling on actually posting anything as I've gotten odd opinions on it.

One friend said that CBS has it's fingers in the pot over there, and if they'd use any of my ideas, I'd be thrilled. Because they have no clue as to canon facts they've presented us with or concept of continuity.

We shall see though. I may put up some of my lesser reviewed stories (read non-traditional pairings) to see if I can pick up a few new readers.

That will have to entail a whole other repentage.

Repentage. Is that a word?

If you use it enough and it gets spread widely enough to get it into a dictionary, it will be.

Can't we just have porn and multiship and be doomed? Repentage sounds so dull :(

CBS involved? Hmmmmhmmm. That just makes me more wary. That could potentially lead to all sorts of legal willies.

Eh well. As you said, we shall see. If it turns out to be something of good, one can always jump in later, and if it isn't... Well, you will have saved yourself some hassle being cautious.

There's going to be a lot of exploding, I feel in me bones, so you should be in for lots and lots of fun.

I mean, if Sara dies, many shippers who like to pair her with various males will go boom. If she doesn't, many shippers and others who like to pair Grissom with other females or males will go boom.

Yay you? :P

I got a solicit like that when I was still writing wrestling commentary. The agreement made it sound like I was only allowed to write for them and nowhere else, on any topic. And I couldn't get a straight answer when I asked for clarification.

You know, this is basically the first I've heard of Fanlib (other than a brief mention of there being a new ff.net alt) and the wank surrounding it. So it doesn't surprise me to see some names I know on the CSI authors list, as I'm guessing know about as much as I did before this post.

Also, there's just so much "oh yes us men with our naturally superior business sense will bring you poor helpless women fanficcers into the mainstream" in it that I want to kick them between the legs. Hard. Forty fuckin' years, and they're trying to cash in on it now, with not a single fanfic name (and, iirc, fair few women, too) on their precious admin. Snarl.

Oh man, you did it. I've just been reading up on the whole site and discussions on various LJs and even their own forum. From a fan POV, this is disconcerting to say the least, as it opens the door for the majors to REALLY look at fanfiction and not let it exist in a somewhat grey zone where it's sorta/maybe illegal though not really, but it works as essentially free advertisement for us. FanLib's goal is to make a quick buck (good luck with that) and by that it takes away the basis for fanfiction to exist despite copyright issues - that no money is made off it.

From my media studies POV and having looked into corporate tendencies to appropriate that which they don't like and then subvert it according to their conventions - this is a gold mine! I see a paper thesis in there.

And from my WTF POV, this snippet from one of the company's founders:
I believe whole-heartedly that fan fiction authors and readers should be celebrated and supported. That is my mission in life.
*gigglesnort*

Anyways, thanks for alerting me to this.

I also failed to mention that your CSI fic looks very, VERY promising. It's been ages since I read something, so it would be awesome to get going again with something great ;)

Okay, looks like the FAQ is missing from the website.

...On the surface, from what I remember of the former FAQ and certainly from the rumours surrounding the site, it implies they have all these corporate connections and everything's great. But, all I've ever seen is implications, no hard facts. The TOS, which is the important part, states that you take responsibility for knowing whether you're infringing on copyrights, etc, and not posting your work if you are, and another part says that if legal problems arise, it's *your* problem, not theirs. That's a very different message.

I believe whole-heartedly that fan fiction authors and readers should be celebrated and supported. That is my mission in life.

He's not been hanging out in two many fanfic communities, has he?

Awww, thanks. It isn't the easiest fic to write - because getting over a trauma is so very individual and writing about it is also vaguely personal - but maybe that'll make it better. I guess we'll see.

You hurt me brain ;)

I think this has the potential to take something awesome and subvert it to make it fit a more conservative agenda (and making a wuick buck through that off the work of others). Incidentally, it also fits with age-old gender issues, which also plays a role.
It's not immediately comparable, as fanfic has flown under the radar for so long, but look at the feminist movement in the 70s in the US. Then look how mainstream Hollywood started to present supposedly strong, corporate female types, only their portrayal was a manifestation of conservative fears about feminist tendencies, and these portrayals tend to be anything but positive when you look at them a bit more closeley. "Network" is a good example.

So yeah, not exactly the same situation, but the principle is. Because, what are you willing to bet that bestiality Harry Potter type fics are gonna get purged from that side first? Or CSI slash fics. Because you can bet that CBS isn't gonna be happy to be associated with that (if they really do back that site).
To quote from a C&D someone received who ran an adult fanfic HP site:
our clients make no complaint about fan fiction written by genuine Harry Potter fans.

This? Is gonna mean the shit will hit the fan. But maybe I'm too paranoid about it.

There, sorry for spamming ya ;)

To get to your fic - it sounds like a toughie to write, especially with a personal dimension. HUGS!
