Today, Norway votes.

I've already been to cast my votes. But that voter apathy they're mentioning - yeah, kinda feeling that a bit. Norwegian politics aren't as divided as in other countries and really, I can live with most of the parties in power. The difference between them doesn't feel like an abyss. Also, Norway is doing rather okay either way, which leaves me with a bit of a "oh well, blah" attitude to it all.

I don't even loathe the Progress Party as much any more. Possibly I'm sick.

Brother has been stopping by on his way elsewhere for a few days, so haven't been too much online. Missed anything important?

Also, I discovered UK Coupling. Just a taaaad late - but now owner of boxset. Muhahaha.

Finally, a poll on LJ stuff. Because democracy is good. Ya. And yes, I will make the next post whatever gets the most votes.

[Poll #1052922]

In general, in Cam's LJ you'd like more...

Anything that means we get to see your brains in action. So, I guess news and current affairs would qualify, but I really love it when you launch in some pseudo-sociological analysis of fandom. Wacky but spot-on examples like the cat lady would be a bonus.

Brother got me to give Heroes a try and I might say that so far I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I'm liking it.

OT - I stuck it out and watched the whole first series of The Office UK just because you told me good things about it but, unfortunately, it seems that its humour is completely lost on me. How sad.

Hmm, I said bitching about Bush because with APEC just here, it would be in our current spirit of Bush bitterness. Heh.

To get hooked on? Have you ever watched Dexter? I recommend that. Very tightly-plotted, CSI on crack kind of stuff. I would have said Prison Break but I suspect that's going the way of House/Grey's Anatomy this year and I'm not amused :(

WHY ARE YOU NOT WATCHING THE US VERSION OF "THE OFFICE"?

Anyway, I personally like your LJ's content as is, so really no need to change. :D

Cam needs to get hooked on...

If you're inclined to give anime a shot, I'd recommend Bleach. It's rather addicting and fun.

Awwww. I rather love it, but then, I've worked in many offices and recognise some stuff. Maybe that's a factor, I don't know.

These days I'm more likely to launch into an analysis of Sastus Symbols in World of Warcraft: Why a Netherdrake is your Porche.

Didn't he call it OPEC?

Dexter? Hmm, I've vaguely heard the name, but can't say I know anything about it. Crime stuff, then?

Heh, [livejournal.com profile] kasuchi seal of approval, then? ;)

Never quite gotten into anime, I'm afraid. At all. Is Bleach a very typical one, or is it more the sort of thing non-anime fans might enjoy as well?

It says something about Norwegian politics when I'm more interested in the election in the US than the Norwegian municipal one. But I voted. I did. Voting at the embassy in Copenhagen with a friend a couple of weeks ago, does not have the same schwung, however, as voting in Norway on election day.

Wiki of 30 Rock

In a few words: 30 Rock stars Tina Fey, head writer of a comedy sketch show whose new boss, Alec Baldwin, decides to turn things upside-down and hire loose cannon Tracy Jordan, played by Tracy Morgan. Watch. It's hilarious. A little slow at first, but it definitely picks up.

Yeah, know that feeling. Norwegian politics is just so... Norwegian politics. The American one actually feels like it have bigger consequences for me. And strong possibility of years of headdesk'ing, too.

I remember voting at the Norwegian consul in Brisbane in the Room of Extreme Norwegianness. Very surreal.

Election day in Norway is not quite what it once was, though.

It's weird. In theory, it had everything I love in a show: awesome accents, British humour, a cute couple to ship, the adorable Martin Freeman. Maybe I really am missing the workplace culture thing.

I wouldn't mind that, as long as you write v. detailed explanations on what on earth a Netherdrake is and kept the Wow-speak down to a minimum. I like learning new stuff and I still haven't found a subject that a good dose of wit won't make me like.

Ha, yes I think he did. He also thinks Sydney is 'Sidney' and a lot of other ridiculous things I can't remember now. Really.

It's basically about a forensic blood splatter analyst who moonlights as a serial killer, targeting other serial killers who have slipped through the system. He's been conditioned that way by his foster father and traumatic, repressed memories from his childhood, before he was adopted. Cable series, so rather explicit, but terribly intense and unique, and very darkly CSI-like. It has an overreaching arc and the usual week-by-week crime stuff. The lead character/actor is absolutely brilliant and the series is based on several books.

Forgot to add: I also got a gut feeling telling me that workplace culture in Italy is v. different from the Anglo-Saxon world. I have no first-hand experience in that either, but I remember a French friend telling me they were talking about making a French version of The Office and that she doubted it would translate well, unless they made major changes. Because apparently the French are quite peculiar in their work attitude too.

Bleach is pretty typical. However, it's the only anime series that my dad has given more than five minutes of attention to, so it may be the sort of thing non-anime fans might enjoy. I've tried him on a bunch; Bleach he got semi-interested in.

Its premise is rather complicated, but condensed down: When someone dies, their soul, depending on whether they were good or not, can become a plus (good, innocent) or a Hollow (bad.) If they stick around in the real world too long due to negative emotions or connections, Pluses can become Hollows. Shinigami are former pluses who have moved on and have a variety of abilities. They fight the Hollows and help the Pluses move on. In comes our hero, Kurosaki Ichigo, who is actually not dead yet and is still a Shinigami. He's kind-of a canon Marty Stu, but the rest of the cast and plot make Bleach worthwhile, I think.

30 Rock is hysterical, much love.

And it seems your fans are calling for more fanfic :)

And I would've voted for more anti-Bush but I am just so sick of him. There are no words.
