Right. Well, this will make modding T&C quite interesting, no doubt. And fandom is gonna go boom, which makes me kinda sad.

Personally, I'm hoping this will actually be good for Rose's character and I'm afraid it won't be, so... I don't know, really. I like Rose. I haven't always liked the writing, and I certainly haven't always liked the fanon of her, but I like fiddling with her in fanfic and she was my first companion. (That didn't stop me from liking Martha - though I had issues with writing there too - or Donna or Sarah Jane or Barbara and Ian and loads of others I've discovered watching Classic Who.)

Also this gonna bring out all the worst in fandom again, isn't it? All the grudges sure don't bring out the best in people. Hoping it won't get too bad, but... Eh.

Cripes. I really don't know. But I think I won't make any judgement on it until I see how it unfolds. Cautious Norwegian isn't the worst way to live.

I will keep the Wankshelter open, however. All is welcome, your shipping/companion/football/kink preference no hinderance, provided you keep your wank outside. Otherwise, no alcohol for you.

Right then. If CSI and DW goes wankalystic at the same time, my brain might boom. Maybe I'll just stay in a corner and write. Yeah. With drinks.

Meanwhile, in my life, had a bit of a RL blah incident Sunday and yesterday, but such is life. Sending first batch of Christmas cards and stuff tomorrow, and got my first package yesterday. Thanks, falena84 :)

As for the spoiler of doom, nothing good will come out of that. Well, fandom implosion might be considered positively simply as a source of entertainment, but that's about it.
It's probably my pessimistic side talking here, but I don't think the writers will be able to rectify the damages they caused to Rose's character.

I quite pleased about seeing Rose again. I'm a little confused about why so much of fandom seems to hate her and is gagging and moaning over this spoiler. What's wrong with Rose? Why do people have this 'Rose OR Martha' mentality - I like them both!

I don't have anything against Rose but I can't say I'm particularly pleased over the fact that they are bringing her back. In my opinion she came close to overshadowing the doctor and was glad she got stuck on a parallel world and that the walls between the worlds were closed.

I don't get this obsession about the doctor's companion. I don't watch the series because of them I want to see the doctor. As far as I'm concerned their only job is to stand there and looked awed at anything he does.

I am thrilled Rose is coming back, but also slightly nervous as to how it will be done. Also as to the amount of weird fandom stuff that will go on. Oh well, I'll be optimistic for now on both counts.

Also...so happy that Rudd will do the right thing. I don't know if he will deliver on everything he's promised, but GOD we needed a change. I have hope. :)

I'm excited about it. Rose was my first and because of that, her storylines with the Doctor have and will always be my favorite. I think what'll be the most interesting out of the entire thing is her interactions with Martha.

But if she's only going to be back for three episodes...that makes me a bit worried. I liked that she was the only one not to leave the doctor in the end (at least not by her own choosing), and if she comes and goes away, then she'll either have to die or leave by her own choosing.

And I don't know. That takes away a bit from the tragedy that was the Doomsday episode.

I just hope it works out. I'm excited she's back but I don't want her to be screwed up. So...here's hoping I suppose.

Some people are very attached to companions and not as much the Doctor, really. People and tastes vary, basically. And if you came into Who with the new series, you might not be as used to the idea of companions changing. *shrugs*

I hope her interactions with Martha is done in a way that doesn't invite an insane amount of wank from any side in fandom. Oh, I hope. But probably there will be wank either which way, since you can't please everyone. And since I like both Martha and Rose, I'm hoping it won't be an injustice to either character, and I'm not sure how they'll do that exactly.

Personally I'll avoid fandom as much as I can from now on. I like Rose, but the way she was written off left a bad taste in my mouth. I have no doubt the writers can put things right, but sometimes I have a feeling that they see Rose's differently than me. (Which is okay, this is not my show and I don't expect things to go the way I want, but I don't have to like everything, do I?)

Anyway, I'll mostly play quietly in my own corner, I'm not one to harsh somebody else's squee.

That's the thing - it's coloring reaction to the news as well. Rusty may have doted on his Rose a bit much, but it's not like he then wrote crappy characters ever since. Everyone seems to be expecting Rose Returns: Batchipping Strikes Back in Canon, but I honestly do not expect that to be the case. Not when Rusty has enthused about all of Rose's successors and ratings for Martha were through the roof.

Fandom dealings with Rose, pro or against, is a bit what did it for me. It wasn't even about the character in the end. It just became its own thing. If that makes sense.

Might be the case but in a series were even the title figure can be replaced and will be you need to get used to it.

Another thing that made me not exactly dislike Rose, but certainly not be thrilled with her was the fact that to me she never seemed to click with the tenth doctor. With the ninth doctor you could nearly see sparks flying but with the tenth there was nothing.

The tenth doctor doesn't really need a companion not in the way the ninth did anyway so Rose wasn't really fit for ten.

I probably could have wrote that better. The reap what you so comment was meant for the people that stole her community, not her. She didn't deserved to be stabbed in the back like that at all. She is batchip but that was her own community and she did work hard in it.

Now that's a matter of opinion, really. I mean, many agree with you, but I also know people who found Nine/Rose all the wrong vibes and there's people who like both more or less equally. (Like me.) Which just goes to show people can watch the same thing and view it extremely differently.

I'll have to see who writes the episode before I take any bet. Because honestly, there's been a lot of variation in how the different writers have dealt with Rose. Not sure what I should expect anymore.

It is going to be very brain hurty, but honestly, I'm of the opinion that it is what we (collectively) make of it. We have no context for any of this as far as the actual show goes, just a lot of wank and bad blood and one-up-manship crazy from all sides in fandom.

It is what we make of it. Fandom is what we make of it. The only way to avoid being miserable is to adopt a "wait and see" attitude!

Oh that (or some variation thereof) would be amazing. I don't want it to be cold or mean or anything, but that would really tie things together, move Ten on, close Rose's story and set the stage for Ten's last hurrah and regeneration into Eleven.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. FANDOM put me off of Rose. Not the character, the writing or even the actress...Fandom. I grew up watching old school Who and it was always a treat when someone new came aboard.

Now? They'll never amount to much and are just filler space. And that is partially Rusty's fault. It's also the gut reaction fault of a small minority of fandom who just happen to be really loud and very confrontational. And I won't lie. I've gotten so sick of some of the stuff I've seen, I added my two cents worth for all they were.

Personally I want to see a true resolution for ALL of them! Ten was hurt losing Rose...that's the nature of the character...he actually cares! Rose did get jilted with Doomsday, I'll give ya that, because I felt it was a bit off too. And Martha got screwed over too as a result.

As for the biggie last night... I said a lot of what I'm thinking in my response to longtimegone. I personally like Martha a lot. If I were 10 years younger, Rose might appeal to me more...I'll never know. Which is funny because they're both pretty close in age.

I actually spent a lot of time pondering this at work last night, and it came down to 'who do I have more in common with?'. I found Who fandom on a whim when the New Who series began. And I liked it a lot...reminded me of the childhood... And if you've seen my teaspoon profile, you'll know that I've written some pretty saucy Rose/Ten...then S3 started and something about Martha grabbed me by the throat and refused to let go!

And then the wank started full tilt. And a good chunk of it was really degrading and downright appalling! So I went with my gut and went with the new girl...to the point that the overly obsessive Rose fans made me outright loathe Rose.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that the S4 ep/s resolve the lot. Wishful thinking, probably. But hey...can't be a pissy bitch all the time. ;)

Yes, fandom has a way of being extremely negative, and filling whatever space it can with that. Even the "squees" are more "IN YOUR FACE, BITCHES" and that does no good for anyone.

It's hard to stay quiet sometimes. Especially when nothing new is going on and fandom is left to stew in its own juices for a while.

There are many wonderful things about fandom, but the angry, entitled, bat shit, joy sucking part is not one of them. And that goes for people on any "side" of any argument.

I am hopeful about the new PM.

I'm a bit concerned about Rose coming back. How the hell are they going to write it without contradicting themselves? I avoid the fandom because Australia is about half a season behind the UK and I don't want to get spoilerfied, but I heard enough about the Rose or Martha wank to be very cautious about this. I personally thought Martha was a kickass companion, and I'm glad she'll be back for series 4 as well.

What really worries me, though, is the 'three special editions' in 2009 and then the show 'taking a break' until 2010. A lot can happen in two years...
