Lastest BSG, as watched by yours truly
Jun. 7th, 2008 04:06 pmDamn! Last week felt a bit filler, but this was definitely not.
What did you other BSG watchers out there think?
Next week: OH HOLY SHIT. And HOLY SHIT THE SECOND.
Later today: Doctor Who fandom will surely try to kill Cam's good mood. Stayed tuned for the epic battle.
Also later today: EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP WHOO.
- This episode had some really good lines. From Baltar and Laura's attempts to talk to the hybrid, to the "if you're my subconscious, you are a bit full of myself" and the "you didn't marry the whole production line" and Baltar's attempts to talk to the centurion. I sniggered.
- Oh, the Eights. From the rebel!Eight who had acessed Athena's memories and seem to give Helo a few realisations about marrying a Cylon to Boomer's leaving when Calvin got choked by D'Anna. Distracted by something shiny indeed. The Eights need spine, but sometimes it seems like they keep looking for something outside themselves to build it. Athena's made one out of humanity, but can it really hold? And Boomer, was that the last we saw of her?
- Poor Pike, dying to become a past episode's plot point.
- For such a vital structure, the Hub sure went down fast. Then again, with the constant jumping, maybe the Cylons just didn't think it in danger. Pretty death, reminding me of a phoenix, except one that is now dead for good.
- Space!porn was shiny.
- Now Cylons are mortal - does it mean they must show themselves 'worthy' of survival too?
- Cylon/human joined future now seems more and more likely. Yet I wonder. What does all this mean for the prophecies? I wonder. As the Babylon 5 quote goes, "Prophecies are poor guide to the future. You only understand it when the events are already upon you".
- D'Anna is her scheming, charming self. Aww. Welcome back!
- Baltar is a big tool with stupidity to match. And yet. Lots of funny moment from him, but for all his brain, he sure manages to pack the idiocy. That could have been another Cylon civil war with a third party involved. Then his reveal to Laura, and his 'please', which did rather break me a bit. All this talk about worthy of survival or worthy of life, as it really is, makes me wonder if half the point is that we all are or we none are.
- Laura's visions were a bit A Battlestar Carol. But nicely acted, and Kara and Lee's presence did build on the idea of the extended Adama family. And Bill, oh Bill in Laura's visions. With the ring, and the kiss, and the 'you rest now' and EJO's acting broke me a little. Elosha actually verbally smacking Laura a bit was nice as well. I love the character, but we all need someone who does that to us sometimes. Especially leaders.
- I don't always like Baltar, but man was it good he didn't die. For all his warped 'I was just the storm' get-out-of-jail-free card, he does actually have a point. Sometimes, going on hating and going on blaming costs too much of what is good about yourself. Laura really did look into the abyss there for a moment.
- Hey, I saw Orion's belt! They're definitely getting closer to Earth.
- Last scene. GUH. Oi, I wibbled. No surprise, I am a sap, but of all the scenes I've gone sappy over, that one still stands out. First off, seeing Bill seeing the basestar (gotten slightly unbuttoned and comfortable waiting, I noticed) and just so-very-careful expression on his face that moment. And her being alone to greet him, not managing to say anything at first. (You can see she tries a few times.) The look on his face is just so soft it kills when he finally sees her again and how much do I love they can't even form full senteces or look away? "Missed you." "You too." "Love you." "About time." And his first very careful hug, and her much fiercer second, clinging to him. Damn, it killed me a little. Supremely acted, I have to say. Emotionally satisfying - but I still want proper kissing at some point. Oi, SciFi, kissing isn't just hot when it's with young 'uns, I'm just saying. Man, how did I get so into this pairing? Oh wait, because they're awesome.
