Whut, I have 195 icon spaces now. Not sure if I should curse or thank LJ. Of course I went peeking around some icon communities to see if I could find some to fill the space up with shiny Narnia ones, mmm, and thus ran into one of my pet peeves.

Friendslocked icon entries. Actually, any sort of entry posted to a community or newsletter with a fake LJ-cut that leads to a flocked post makes me grit my teeth. Yeah, it's your LJ whatever you choose to lock is none of my business. But if you want to promote in public, have it available for the public, ffs. (I remember I had an issue with a Who newsletter comm for that reason some time back.)

I do sympathize with the annoyances of icon thievery and trolls, but demanding people friend you just because there might be one of 100 icons you posted they like or they have an opinion to share in a discussion you have actually promoted in public or they might want to read a fic you posted a teaser for? I find that a bit uncool. Doubly when it's not even warned in advance it is a flocked post.

Then again, maybe I'm just grumpy.

Totally love icons for Christmas, though. Now I have space for them even. Mmm. Shiny icons.

Now, I've seen the 'list your top ten ships' meme go around, but I'd thought I'd do a slightly different one. So here goes, ten lessons about love I've learned from fictional couples/friends/families. And because love isn't just romantic love, not all my examples are either.

Bill Adama and Laura Roslin (Battlestar Galactica)
Photobucket
Love is not the property of youth, nor is it dimminished for being second go at it.

Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter Pevensies (Narnia books and movies)
Photobucket
Love and family isn't always enough to make you not do wrong, but it can be enough to be forgiven for it.

Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle (CSI)
Photobucket
Love isn't the solution to all your problems and a magical fixit - especially when what you're still trying to mend is yourself.

Pai and Koro (Whale Rider)
Photobucket
Even loving someone, you can be blind to them.

Legolas and Gimli (Lord of the Rings books and movies)
Photobucket
Love can be enough to bridge war-ridden gaps and age-long mistrust.

The Doctor and his companions (Doctor Who)
Photobucket
When you're over 900, you can love and have loved and awful lot of people, platonically, romantically, presumably or otherwise, and still bloody well stink at expressing it.

Mio, and his father the King (Mio, My Mio, book by Astrid Lindgren)
Photobucket
A parent's love can't keep you a child forever, but it can make you a strong enough person to face whatever fate you may come to.

Romeo and Juliette (William Shakespeare play, a lot of movies Cam refuse to see)
Photobucket
Love doesn't always end well, and with teenagers and adult alike, can make you a bit silly.

Rose and Alec (A Little Love Song, book by Michelle Magorian)
Photobucket
Love doesn't have to come at first sight, and can be built from something as simple and hard as acceptance of who you are.

John Sheridan and Delenn (Babylon 5)
Photobucket
Love is something worth living for.

And since we're on the topic of love anyway:

Nah, I feel that way too. But then maybe I'm just a cantankerous old fart. If so, perhaps we can be catankerous old farts together. :P If I see a 'look NOW, only open for THREE DAYS, if you want to see more JOIN MY PRIVATE CLUB' posts I ignore it on principle... unless the teasers show something so amazingly awesome I just have to have a look-see (which has only happened once, and even then I was rather disappointed by the full selection of icons). It just strikes me as really rather unnecessary and taking yourself far too seriously, but maybe that's just me. *shrugs*

And I love your 'love lessons learned' XD

Inadvertently spoiled myself for one simple fact I did not see coming:

Delenn grows hair! ;-)

*cough* Anyway. On a totally different note, I love Rose and Alec -- only on our side of the pond, the book came out as "Not a Swan"! Or was there a sequel I never read?

Ah. I tend to use photobucket, but never know, might come in handy.

Yeah, I was surprised to see the range of files available for scrapbook.

Images: GIF, JPG, PNG, and TIF
Videos: 3GP, ASF, AVI, MOV, MPEG, MPG, RM, RV, and WMV

According to the FAQ. I might stick some clips up because they'd probably look better than on youtube.

I love Sheridan/Delenn. One of the most beautiful ships ever.

Also, I'm in desperate need for some positive words...

Yeah, seeing flocked posts like that tend to push me towards ignoring the person more than joining any comm. Cranky, cranky, cranky, I guess.

I suspect me making my fic friends only would so not go down well, hah.

Hah, yes she does. You must only be in season one, then. And that's not the only thing she does.

Huh, never heard of any sequel myself, but books going over the Atlantic has changed name before, so that wouldn't be unheard of.

I was a teenager when I first read it, and I still reread it so many years after. It just strikes a chord with me.

Yeah, it was a lovely part of a very excellent show in general. Remains the one show I've gone to a convention for, too.

Heh, thanks!

Oh, and got both your card and gift today. Nice timing on both. Sadly I opened the Amazon package because I didn't see it was a gift and I am expecting something I've ordered, so bit fail on my part. But thank you :D

I hope it is something that you still wanted! I wish they would offer wrapping but I must've missed that on the checkout!

Well, I am glad you got it and happy christmas!

I bought marzipan today since I saw it and thought I would give it a try!

I think it's an option you can check while completing the order, at least it was for me when I was ordering some stuff for people on my gift list this week. But easy to miss.

In any case, classic Who is aways very welcome and I didn't have that one, so yay.

Oooh, tell me how you found it.

I must've completely missed it! SO sorry. :(

But I did find the marzipan in one of the specialty stores here. It was shaped as fruit and when I was reading the ingredients it listed almond flavouring. Is that right?

Is that something you would like me to send over or do you have tons of it over there?

Oh, I'm annoyed by flocked icon posts too. Here are pretty unlocked icons.

And, um, I like your take on this meme.

I received my card and love it. Thank you!! Your organizational skills put mine to desperate shame. I've not even started writing mine out yet; something that needs to be done ASAP.

Thanks again, kiss!!

Counting the days 'til the nineteenth (twelve to go!) because that's when Sky, Sunshine, and I finish S1. :-)

I really must get my hands on that book. I miss it, and I work later than the library stays open.

This post is very a propos.

I made you some WoW icons for Christmas. Nothing fancy, but I hope you'll like them. And now you surely have the space for them.*g*

Aww, thank you! I do indeed have much more space for icons now, so I will definitely choose some to put up. But heh, should have warned you my little character now looks a little different. With new expansion, I got her a haircut and new awesome weapons, heh.

Time for new pic!spam soon, I guess... ;)

But thank you, you're much too lovely and generous.

I tried to recruit [livejournal.com profile] lotus79 in my sneaky plans to get caps of your WoW stuff, because I didn't want to give myself away by asking, but in the end I had to resort to your older picspams because they were handier.

Oh well, you do your picspam thing and maybe icons will come at some point...

Yeah, that's right. The popular marzipan here is plain or chocolate-covered kind, but we have all sorts.

And we got tons about, so no worries. I could actually send you some, if you'd like. Christmas kind, pig-shaped.

Ahahaha. She did ask me to send her some WoW screencaps recently, now I know why. I did wonder, she has never really asked directly for some before.

Anyway, tada!

Heh, she told me she was gonna try. I was kinda hoping you two would do some...quests or whatever together and she might sneak some caps out of it, but she told me you've levelled (?) your character quite high extremely fast and you hadn't played together in the new bits yet. Lolol. Poor Saz, she did try. :D

You've even learned the terms. I'm impressed.

Yeah, see, I got the expansion at launch, but she had to wait for hers to be shipped from Europe, so by the time she got it, I was far ahead. Also, with time difference between us being what they are, it's only really on weekends we play at the same time.

Oh well, I am just hard to catch I guess :P

You don't have to if its a lot of trouble. Thank you for the thought, though :)

I tried it and it tastes good but I can't imagine it being chocolate covered! *sigh* you guys have such interesting stuff!
