ARGH BSG.
Those kind of cliffhangers should be illegal. ARGH ARGH. Even if I have read some spoilers and have ideas about what happens, ARGH. I just have to get that out of my system first. But this episode is fucking epic, so lets get to it.
Stuff I liked:
- Acting, really good in this episode. A lot of the actors turned in great stuff, but I must mention EJO especially this week, because damn.
- Laura just casually walks out in Bill's robe and gets coffee in front of Saul. Bwhaha. His reaction and her reaction to his cracked me up, as did Bill's whole casual 'why yes, I AM doing the President, you were saying Saul?' (And she's reading a book, I love this continued book thing with them.) The following 'domestic' scene with just Laura and Bill felt bittersweet - she shows she can't quite let go of presidential habits, he shows he knows it, and their affection for each other is clear throughout. They really do see through each other and she lured one of his rare laughs out too. Oh man, these two kill me. Also, I did note that Saul and Bill's conversation mentioned the tylium ship situation as happening a few days prior, so in my head, Laura and Bill spent those days reading and frakking and being happy. Shut up, it's real in my head.
- Laird's death. Not a huge or important character as so, but one fans would recognise and feel something for and fuck :(
- That not all those on Gaeta's side were total assholes (though some were), and that Zarek and Gaeta do have some good points at times. It fits with BSG's colour spectrum, where things rarely are black and white. It also shows that humans can do really bad things to each other over divisions that make sense - the most heartbreaking kind of conflict that can be the one you understand why happens, when it's very hard to find someone to direct your anger at completely.
- Kickass!Kara returning. I know
lotus79 was verrah happy with this and the saving of Lee with following kiss, and really, Lee and Kara like that I can totally be fine with. It's not my ship, but I like the shift in balance they are. Kara gets to do all the stuff that traditionally the male will do in a couple and is hardcore. Also loved how they went to find mummy, as it were.
- Tyrol. Rocking it, organising stuff, maybe the one of the Five that can be be the bridge between the Cylons and humans. Saul doesn't want the job, Tory seems to have gone a bit too far the other way, Anders is still mostly being pretty.
- The anger in this episode, both Adama's and Gaeta's. I really felt it, and those two are not done with each other. But Gaeta, you're going to die horribly. Really, you are. Laura is going to kill you with brainpower alone if nothing else.
- Return of Pegasus crew and stuff from season two! Really reminds me how much has happened in this show.
- Tigh and Adama are so BFF. It really is love, just not romantic kind. The way the old men just kick ass in this episode as much as the younger ones just crack me up. Not to mention at the moment the epic romances of the show is Tigh/Ellen and Laura/Bill. It ain't all about the young 'uns. I like this.
- Baltar and Roslin cracks me up. The way she got use of his wireless was smashing, her speech was great, and Baltar's attempt to talk Gaeta out of it was so Baltar. Baltar just really wants to be a hero sometimes. It's too bad he's so crap at it and really good at surviving instead.
- President Roslin, please be here to stay again.
- Adama and Roslin suck face in front of everyone present, managing to be awesome, hilarious, sweet and heartbreaking all at once. I love how he puts his guns down and walk up to her very steady and deliberately, not looking away, and just goes for the kiss. She's obviously caught by surprise for a second, then is totally into it. Lee is adorably uncomfortable, Kara is all 'I'm not going to watch this, lalala', Baltar looks like he wants in on the action, and the whole thing is a bit 'Adama and Roslin show everyone how they feel about each other. WITH TONGUES'. Which I'm all for. Then they go and break my heart by Laura whispering to him with her voice just a little unsteady, her hand in his hair and kissing his head and the look on his face when he pulls back abd looks at her. GUH. I love how he doesn't really say much and still manages to communicate to her and to us watching how he feels. She knows he's staying, he knows she's going, because they're the President and the Admiral and they love each other and that is part of the package. I love how Baltar has to rush them, because they really don't want to let go of each other but they are who they are. Really, they kill me.
Stuff I didn't like:
- NO CLIFFHANGER NO
- It is also totally depressing so see people turn on each other. Oh Gaeta, what have you done?
- Racetrack :(
- Um, I will think of more later when my brain isn't overloading.
What should happen in the next episode(s), no concern for spoilers:
- Kara and Lee kick more ass and has adrenaline!frak, just for
lotus79.
- Zarek goes out in battle like a revolutionary should.
- Helo, Athena, Anders and Caprica Six break themselves out and proceed to kick ass.
- Bill DOES NOT DIE.
- Tigh DOES NOT DIE.
- Laura DOES NOT DIE and also is awesomely Presidential.
- Gaeta does not get to die heroically in battle, but is instead captured and made to face the consequences of his choices.
- The aftermath of the mutiny is not black and white, and has people on both sides regret what went down.
- Bill and Laura has a reunion that kills me for all the right reasons.
- Cavil reappears, gets blown out of the sky, Galactica finds a lovely planet and they all live happily ever after. The end. Shut up, I can live in my delusions.
A week, how am I going to survive a week until next episode? ARGH.

Date: 2009-01-31 01:50 pm (UTC)I read somewhere that there was only going to be 4 seasons. Have they found Earth yet? I mean the original series had them found it, although after that everything went to pot.

Date: 2009-01-31 05:46 pm (UTC)And heh, you're the fourth person on my flist to get hooked on BSG this month. It really is a smashing show, and watching it all in one go like you did, is lovely. I did that with the three first seasons. The waiting is a killer - the half-year gap between finding Earth and the episodes we're into now was a killer. At least you'll only have to suffer with the rest of us for a few more weeks. Then it's all over. Wibble.

Date: 2009-01-31 09:51 pm (UTC)OMFG THIS CLIFFHANGER : OOOO. IT WAS ACTUALLY A GOOD ONE. AND I DON'T KNOW HOW I'M GOING TO LAST A WEEK NOW ;W;. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S CRAPPY LIKE THE NEXT TWO/THREE WEEKS PROMISE TO BE.
The parents totally made out in front of everyone ♥. That made my night (I was expecting it to be a quick little goodbye peck).

Date: 2009-01-31 10:11 pm (UTC)YES. which is why i'm okay with it being a cliffhanger. i want this to get the screen time it deserves.
i loved the roslin and baltar exchange. and LOVED seeing roslin being all awesome and everything. i'm glad to see her kicking ass again (oh gosh, the previews for next week!)
Laura and Bill spent those days reading and frakking and being happy.
hey, i pretty much assumed the same thing. so that makes two of us.

Date: 2009-01-31 11:23 pm (UTC)I loved Laura and Bill in this, especially the two moments you moments you mentioned (the drinking coffe bit and the no-nonsense kiss :-)).
Can nobody die next week? Pretty please?

Date: 2009-01-31 11:56 pm (UTC)I thought this was EJO's best episode since probably early on in the first season. That's not saying he was bad before, he was just THAT good for me in this ep. Like he hit every fucking scene out of the ballpark, especially when he's being taken into custody. Like I think his glare finally reached Supernova levels of omgscary. I really don't know how Gaeta didn't just shit himself and give up right there. Like, HE KNOWS Bill Adama is going to bring down the anger of God on him when he takes back the ship and it's not going to be pretty. I. CAN'T. WAIT.
OMG SPACEMOMMY AND SPACEDADDY WITH THE TONGUES IN FRONT OF THEIR SPACECHILDREN AND UNCLE TIGHLON = BEST SCENE EVAR.

Date: 2009-02-01 12:15 am (UTC)I'm so glad I am insanely busy this coming week. It'll so help me survive the wait. Because ARGH.
When Adama does something, he does it properly. If he's going to kiss his President in front of everyone, he's going to damn well do it good ;)

Date: 2009-02-01 12:35 am (UTC)EJO really was kicking this week. EJO is fab in most he does, but he hasn't always had a lot of material that really offered to bring such a wide range of stuff as in this episode. I love his sweet stuff with Roslin, but damn, I forgot how much he can bring it.
YES AND CRAZY UNCLE BALTAR TOO. He was totally enjoying the show a bit too much, hai. But I forgive him because I was too.

Date: 2009-02-01 12:46 am (UTC)Oh, Gaeta is so dead. It's just a question of who gets him first. Kara, Bill, Laura or Saul. Either one is going to be bringing epic wrath. Poor Gaeta. Do not fuck with the extended Adamas, SERIOUSLY.
Poor Lee looked traumatised, hah. Obviously he knows his father loves Roslin from Sine Qua Non, but he probably wasnt expecting that practical demonstration. Oh well, Lee got a bit of action from Kara himself, so he shouldn't complain.

Date: 2009-02-01 12:52 am (UTC)Think the podcast for the episode mentioned time had passed as well, which Gaeta had used to plot his plan. So yeah, been a day or two.
(She was looking good in it, truly. It really felt like such a married couple scene in many ways, especially with the level of comfort they had with each other.)
