Australia :( This is really, really bad. I lived there a few years and did see the destruction of some fires, but this... Stay safe, Aussies. I hope you get some rain very fast.

Horrible. I really have no words. And of course we get 25cm of snow here meanwhile and I'm left wishing I could FedEx the lot to Victoria. However, it is possible to donate to the Australian red Cross here.

Flu is still a bitch :( Can't get much done, feel tired just walking a few steps of the stairs, and even trying to write post-Blood on the Scales fic isn't going too well because my head is all weird. Might have to try to get to doctor tomorrow. Come oooooon immune system, I know we can do this. If I'm still sick for my birthday, I will have to kill things.

So, I had an fannish ask-me-anything meme, and these are the questions posted. Who asked is only specified if the poster asked for it.

What's your least favourite BSG episode - apart from Black Market, I don't know anyone who likes that - and why?

The Woman King. I watched a lot of season one to three in marathon watches, and this is one of the few episodes I've never rewatched. I don't find the plot believable, it's way too heavy-handed with Helo and that doctor sucks as a serial killer. Blergh, no.

So... still seen as a big name fan? :)

Haha. No. People put a lot of different things into that term, but the only time I've seen it used about me is way back in LotR fandom and was because of OFUM's popularity.

Why do you write het and not slash?

Because that's the way I swing. I've never felt attracted to my own gender, so no femmeslash. Of course, a lot of straight women write m/m slash, why not me? I think it's a bit to do with growing up in Norway in a time where homosexuality was really becoming accepted by a majority of the population. We got civil union for same sex couples in the early 90s (as the second country in the world) and I was a teenager then. I had a girl in my class who came out, and there were people in the public eye that were not straight, including our finance minister. I never thought homosexuality was something taboo, or something edgy or that I would push boundries by writing it. We do have people opposed to our passed gender neutral marriage law and such, but it's far, far less vicious than the debate that is raging in the US. I guess us Norwegians are just dull.

I have written m/m slash on occasion - Legolas and Gimli mostly - so it's not that I can't. It just mostly doesn't do much for me, so het tends to be where I go.

If I told you I discovered a BSG fanfic where Bill, Saul, Billy, Lee, and various assorted others (not including Laura) are vampires and Bill has a Mary Sue daughter, what would be your response?

GIVE ME THIS GLORIOUS CRACK

What's your all-time favourite 'ship?

Oh, ouch. This is usually whatever is my main ship at the time. I am a bit like that. I usually feel nostalgic about them ever after, but my mind tends to focus the love on the current. But, judging on what seen onscreen and disregarding fandom fun I've had, I think I would have to say John & Delenn and Adama & Roslin would duke it out in the finale. I find both of them lovely love stories, with strong female characters and quite a bit of tragedy involved.

Do you have a sock puppet? What do you think about using them?

No, I don't. As for the use of them... Well, that's actually it, it depends on the use. If it's a sock puppet used to stir shit and the person behind it just wants to avoid the backlash for being an asshat, yeah, I'm not impressed. But there can be other reasons to use one where I wouldn't be too bothered. It all depends.

Are there any fandoms you've kind of wished you could get into, but for whatever reason, all attempts just failed? ([livejournal.com profile] sinneahtes)

The X-Files.

What's your biggest pet peeve, fanfiction-wise?

Facts wrong about Norway. Every time. Getting the language wrong will do it too. I'm looking at you, Doctor Who.

What's your biggest unrevealed fandom secret?

Er. I think I've owned up to most of them by now, really. Even the really sad ones. *thinks* Um, I save icons I will never use, put them in folders by fandom and watch them sometimes. There's a sad, if minor one.

Do you consider yourself a Rose lover?

Hmm. No, not really. I like her character, I really like writing her, but I never quite identified with her. I get bothered by some of the comments thrown at her, especially sexually-tinged slurs, but I've never felt too much of an urge to defend everything she does. I think she has flaws. I wish a lot of the discussion about her didn't always get into love/hate lines because it seems to derail the whole thing.

Ooh, sounds awesome. Um, give me your thinky-thoughts on Old Skool Who (if you've seen it). If you haven't, give me your thoughts on this season of BSG.

There is a looooooooooooot of Old Skool, you know! I have definitely not seen all. I've seen some One (Barbara/Ian FTW), a wee bit of Two, a few Three serials, the Sarah Jane era of Four, whole of Five, no Six, a few Seven serials and the movie. Erm, thinky-thoughts... It has charm. I mean, compared to today's television, it can definitely feel slow and unemotional at times, but a lot of it has spirit and just charm. Some of the serials have really interesting concepts, if dodgy special effects, and I find them pleasant to watch when I can't sleep. They lull my brain.

Current season of BSG: Gooooood so far. But depressing as frak.

Where were you during the "great race debate" after the S3 finale of Doctor Who?

Being really awkward and mostly reading everyone else's posts on it. I'm white. I live in a country where immigration is fairly new and we've been fairly white a long time simply due to being far north and not a lot wanted to come here to freeze their asses off. There is of course racism about here, but it's more modern and new, if that makes any sense. I can spot that in my own country, but racial stereotyping in the US, issues in the UK? Blatant and namecalling is easy enough and most will call that on its repulsiveness. But the more subtle kinds? I don't feel confident I know enough, I don't see enough to declare it this or that. I definitely would never feel good about declaring there is no racism in Doctor Who ever, because saying that as a white person? If a male told me there was no sexism in society, I sure as fuck would take offense. And racism can be unintended too, and in those cases perhaps even more important to draw attention to. Who wants to be racist if they can help it?

And I was being my Norwegian self, and we're often a cautious, slow lot. It did get really ugly and there were other issues too, and it got personal. So I read. I listened. I heard a lot of things I felt unaware of. I hope I learned something. That's what I did.

Sorry if I rambled, my head is really buggered by this flu.

wanna know what REALLY sucks? I was talking to one of my Aussie friends, and some wanker just walked up to the park next to his house, threw a Molotov, and set the place on fire... his fence is a little charred on one side, but at least he and his family are okay.

Oh, do feel better. Being ill is so not fun.

Living in Alberta, where it can be extremely dry, wildfires are not uncommon. What's going on in Australia is just nuts. I hope they're able to get the fires under control and fairly quickly at that.

Thanks for the Red Cross link...The situation there is so horrible.
I've seen wildfires before but can't imagine anything on that scale.
