Long week finally arrived at weekend. Been working overtime, twisted my knee in a bit of an ice mishap, was kissed by a four year old, had another 'ARGH NSB' week and have just generally been busy. Lazy weekend arrived just in time.
And weekend means new BSG. This week's episode felt such a part one of more that I don't feel right judging it on its own. I'll see how it all ties together next week. So, just a couple of things...
- Colony is next to a naked singularity? If either the colony or Galactica doesn't get pulled into the singularity, I will eat the hat I don't have. Point of it being 'naked' is that you would actually be able to see it then - gravitational singularities normally are at the centre of black holes and have an event horizon. Naked singularities - if they exist, it's a theory that they can and a debated one - do not have an event horizon and thus would allow observation of the collapse of an object to infinite density. Galactica's fate? We shall see.
- Aha, so that's the fountain scene for Laura. There were pics from shooting of it around, and I always wondered.
- All the flashbacks just seemed to cement that this show is about the characters most of all. I like that, if it all pulls together at the end.
- Little moments of win: Tyrol taking Tory across the line, Baltar's ohsovisible desire to cross it and yet not doing it, happy!Kara and happy!Lee of another time, druken pigeon chase (lol), Adama's 'you're my daughter' to Kara, Adama's look when he turned around and actually seeing Laura with friends and loved ones that wasn't just Bill. (Much as I love Bill and Laura's romance, she's been such a lonely character).
- Little moments of heartbreak: Laura looking so frail, Helo and Athena, the labels on Bill's boxes, people taking the pictures of the memorial hall with them, bitter!Tyrol being bitter, Sam and Cottle's little moment with Adama.
-

"You didn't think you would take off without me, did you Admiral?" "Never crossed my mind, Madam President." DAMN STRAIGHT IT BETTER NOT HAVE. I can't take splitting up these two right now, not with everything else making me sniffle. Also, the moment where Kara supported Laura and took her hand was just made of additional win. Extended Adama family. I wish they could all get happy endings, inner peace, cabins and time to rest.
Had episode reaction chat with
lotus79 and
falena84, which consisted of me and Saz making up all sorts of fake spoilers for the episode as
falena84 was watching, discussions of Sam/Kara/Lee threesome,
lotus79's porny BSG!Sims adventures (with mpreg), explanations and discussions about singularities, the concept of time in spacetime, laws of physics, Lee and the pigeon theories, teaser for next episode, BSG rewatching habits, who is more spoilt by their ship/who has the most right to whine (I am in love with Adama/Roslin,
lotus79 is all about the Kara/Lee,
falena84 is inclined to Helo/Athena) and human nature. This show sure spawns a lot of very different topics. I LOVE IT.
HOW IS IT ONLY TWO HOURS LEFT?! The mere thought is making me depressed. I don't want to let it go.
In other BSG stuff:
- Everyone has already seen the TVGuide photoshoot bits, right? CUTE LIKE WHOA.
- One more part of the Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnel TVGuide interview, this time discussing the fans and media. No spoilers.
- The UN to have a panel on BSG. Ron Moore, EJO and MM all due to appear. Wow. Someone in the UN must be a serious fan.
- Battlestar drinks. Because after next week, we might all need some alcohol.
- Critic wants to know what makes BSG so great, invites fans to explain it.
- How will BSG end? Critic admits to being nervous. So am I.
In life:
Bad oil spill hits the coasts of Queensland, Australia. Parts of the Sunshine Coast to be precise, and I got all sad and wah because that's where I often went to the beach when I lived in Brisbane. Even my favourite of Bribie Island got hit. :(
Meanwhile, football season is starting in Norway today - with most of the country still covered in over 30cm of snow. HAH. I am a quite dedicated football watcher, as is my mum. Meanwhile, dad and my brother don't really care. Role-reversal FTW. My team is Tromsø and I'm hoping for a good season. Last year they got a bronze, whoo.
Remember the guy that threw a shoe at Bush? He got a three year jail term for it. Um, that seems a bit excessive. Seems more akin to throwing rotten eggs, which in Norway you get fined over, mostly. Three years, seriously? I've seen rapists get less than that.
Eurosong is SRS BSNS. Most Europeans already know this, of course. Ah, Eurosong. What Europe does instead of going to war with each other these days. I'm looking forward to this year's already.
Link of funny: Top 15 villain inboxes. Daleks, Gollum and Tetris included, as it should be.
So, what are you all up to?

Date: 2009-03-14 02:48 pm (UTC)Next weekend is gonna be hard. No more bsg. At least we still have The Plan (although Laura is not in it)
As for the Eurovision Song Contest I don't have much faith lol. We will see. At least we'll have some fun.

Date: 2009-03-14 03:01 pm (UTC)Cannot deal with this awesome show ending.
Cannot deal with the fact that (unspoiled-ish) Bill and Laura will probably both die. Hopefully together, doing something uber!valiant.
There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza.
End of line.
:(
And I still kind of want to know what Bill asked Sam. Probably "CAN YOU PILOT THIS SHIP EH?"
And...were there more people on the port side or the starboard side at the end? I kept getting turned around.
To be continued is an evil, evil phrase. I was literally like (oi, such a valley girl I am) "That was frakking it?" but not in the negative way I've thought in past weeks. Mostly I can't deal with the thought of no more Laura :(.

Date: 2009-03-14 03:14 pm (UTC)No more BSG :( I don't even want to think about that. I do want to see The Plan, even if I'll miss Laura. I want a few Cylon things explained.
All I ever expect from Eurosong is shit and giggles, and it usually delivers ;)

Date: 2009-03-14 03:41 pm (UTC)And whatever end it is, I just hope Laura and Bill get it together. I don't want to see either grieve the other :( It'll kill me. I'm too attached, clearly.
More people on the 'not going side' than mission one, I think. Which does make a certain amount of sense. But if people volunteer from other ships, they should be able to crew Galactica.
At least it wasn't an evil cliffhanger as such, just a 'argh no I need more' sort of to be continued.

Date: 2009-03-14 03:44 pm (UTC)Fans explaining why BSG is so great? That is an idea of a genious!!!
As for the episode... I'm still in a WTF condition and all my brain can comprehend is two rods- "black hole".....

Date: 2009-03-14 04:00 pm (UTC)Black hole, yes. But not your average black hole, which made me wonder a bit. Humhum.

Date: 2009-03-14 04:06 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure we won't see one grieve the other for more than a few seconds. I am clearly far too attached as well, but she's his sine qua non, and I just can't see Roslin having the literal strength to outlast him, because (at least in my shippy/fangirl mind), she draws a lot of her strength from him (especially literally, like when they walked down the line).
It does make a certain amount of sense, but from what we saw after that, it seems like it was indicated that there were still enough to run the ship.
Aha, that's exactly what I was trying to get at. I wasn't screaming at the screen because it was an evil cliffie, but just because I need
edand wantedmore :P.no subject

I would simultaneously crack up and start crying if Bear covered Starlight by Muse in the finale, because that's always just struck me as an epic song, and it applies to the people in the show on so many levels. If I ever make a fanmix, that will be in it, even as cliche as it is.)

Damn, I've been trying to decide with which BSG shippy icon to comment for about 5 mins, and I really can't make up my mind.
There, this one should make Saz happy at the very least. ;)

Date: 2009-03-14 07:19 pm (UTC)Yeah, Galactica clearly goes on her mission. Last hurrah. And really, as the show is named for her, I was always expecting Galactica to bite it in the last episode.
It's like, I really want more now, but when I get more, it will be the last I ever get. OH SHOW YOU SO EVIL :(

Date: 2009-03-14 07:22 pm (UTC)Orgy really is the solution to all shipping woes. But damn, I have no orgy icon. This Mum&Dad making out in front of the kids will have to do.

Date: 2009-03-14 09:49 pm (UTC)I made my orgy icon myself. I knew it'd come in handy, with a cast like this!

I'm being killed by those lovely flashbacks (and the entire ep), really.

HOW ARE THEY SO CUTE TOGETHER AND YET SO HARDCORE? HOW?

Date: 2009-03-16 02:07 am (UTC)I really, really adored that bit in the previous ep where Starbuck took Roslin's hand. And the A/R! Just HOW are they so frakking perfect?!
Sigh, 2 hours left. I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around that fact.

Date: 2009-03-16 07:44 am (UTC)Thanks for all the links! I hadn't seen the bits about the TV Guide photoshoot, or the UN panel, any of it.

Date: 2009-03-16 01:56 pm (UTC)How is that- not an average black hole? I didn't actually get it because all those cosmic terms are pretty complicated...
no subject
Date: 2009-03-18 07:46 pm (UTC)A black hole is so called because you can't actually see it. The singularity has such a strong pull not even light escapes it. It's known as the 'even horizon' - the boundry where light can't escape anymore and such, nothing can been seen from outside it. When you look for black holes in the universe, you're really looking for what you can't see. If something is pulled into a black hole, you'd just see it and then suddenly not.
(The singularity is the term for the point where everything crushes together to a degree we simply cannot imagine. Imagine the mass of a star larger than our own crushed together to the size of a penny.)
Now, a naked singularity has no event horizon. (In theory. We have never found a naked singularity. It's just a theory that they could be possible.) You can see it. If something gets pulled into a naked singularity - say, Galactica - you'd see it all the way and what would happen to it.
It would be a pretty spectacular way to go, which is why I have a pet theory that's what will happen.

Date: 2009-03-18 09:07 pm (UTC)I won't make any theories about how will Galactica go because I just want to be surprised....
