Oh, Italy :( They got hit by an eartquake close to the surface, which is never good. (How damaging an earthquake is isn't all about force - it's about where it comes from too.) Many dead and tens of thousand homeless. Cities have pretty much been flattened. Lets hope there are no major aftershocks. :( Stay safe, Italy. Figures my parents are there at the moment - at Sardinia, though, so that should be safe.
Meanwhile, an eight year old has vanished into a river here - playing on the ice with a mate, and the ice broke. They haven't found anything, but that kid is fairly certainly dead. Poor family. Ice in spring is just treacherous.
Nature. It can surely be a bitch. But also very pretty and I saw the first flowers today as I walked home.
There are some spoilerrific pictures out from shooting of the next Doctor Who finale swimming around the web. Don't look unless you want to know. My my. There will probably be spoilers in comments, yes.
So, writing. Also popular on the poll of what I should do this holiday. Thus I have.
'Love and Simplicity: A Murder on Galactica', BSG. Adama/Roslin, Tigh, some Kara/Lee, tiny Helo/Athena, Baltar (Finished, will be posted in full once beta is done):
Post-coital with Bill is starting to feel a little bit like an argument, Laura thinks, and she really shouldn't be feeling like hitting him with a book so close to having frakked him.
"No," she says, folding her arms. "I am not staying here like a prisoner until the Colonel completes his investigation, I am especially not taking Centurion bodyguards and I'm not having you babysit me. I'm not, Bill. I won't take any unnecessary chances, but I'm not letting a killer take half my life already."
"I'm not babysitting," he says, his palm sliding across her elbow and up her arm in a motion that is very distracting to the argument she is determined not to let him win. "I'm partnering."
"Partnering?"
"You and me," he says, words so light on his tongue, "and a murder mystery."
"You were never going to let the Colonel look into this alone, were you?" she asks, already knowing the answer.
"No," he says, and his lips are warm as they slide across hers. "Neither were you."
(...)
"You're telling me several marines have seen the Admiral and President frolic through the halls, and haven't told me?" Tigh asks, and it manages to sound remarkably like 'do they *have* a death wish?'
"Yes, sir," Hoshi says quietly. "Sir, they're apparently more scared of the Admiral than you, sir."
"That's a surprise," Lee remarks brightly, and Tigh gives him a scalding look.
"If it helps any, it's a close call, sir. I believe the President's presence was a deciding factor," Hoshi offers.
"Hoshi?"
"Yes, sir?"
"Get scarier."
"Yes, sir."
Untitled, Doctor Who/BSG crossover. Adama/Roslin, the Doctor, Martha, Lee:
If this is death, it feels a lot different than he thought it would, Bill Adama thinks faintly.
There is white light, but there is also green light, and light that seems to be just light, shooting through him. There are voices, but they're strangers' – speaking words that seem to make no sense, like 'this isn't the World Cup!' and 'but I got Africa right!'
There's pain, but it fades and leaves. It's never left him all the way before.
There are soft hands too, touching him and a face, leaning over his. For a moment, he thinks it's Dee – the skin, the hair colour – but then his eyesight focuses a little and he sees it's not.
"I'm Martha," the woman says gently."I'm a doctor. You're all right. Just calm down."
"I'm a doctor too," a voice come from the side, and a cheerful face leans in over him. "I'm the Doctor in fact. Pleased to meet you! Sorry about your little ship. Didn't mean to bump into it, but it was very bumpily in the way."
"Bill," Bill manages, trying to focus his thoughts. He was flying. He was flying with Laura, showing her the life on this planet. "I was with someone. Laura."
"Nice name," the Doctor remarks. "Laura. I met a Laura once. She tried to end the universe, very inconsiderate of her. Your Laura isn't in that business, is she?"
"No. She saved us all," Bill mutters, remembering faintly so many years ago when she talked him out of a suicide attack, and the man grins at his words.
"Saving, that's what I do. Brilliant!"
"Is she....?" Bill's voice is thick even to him, and his throat feels thicker still, the words so hard to press through. "Is she all right?"
"Oh, not to worry," the Doctor says, and sounds mad. "A few bruises, some cuts, a silly cancer. I took care of all that."
(...)
"I was ready to die," Laura says. She looks at her hands, her own skin feeling so strangely warm now.
"I was once too," the Doctor says, and his eyes seem strangely distant, even for a man that doesn't seem more than half there to begin with.
"What happened?"
"I lived."
(...)
"You saved Laura!" Lee insists. "She's walking in the grass with my father right now, when she was dying just days ago. You can do it. You have a time machine. You can just go back to when Kara..."
"No," the Doctor says.
"Just no?"
"If I change that, you will never find this planet. You will die out among the stars, and there will be no more humanity. Would you trade that for Kara? Your whole race for one person? Would you?"
Lee closes his eyes, for a moment finding just breathing hard enough. "She wouldn't."
(...)
"Unrequited love. It can be a bit of a bitch," Martha says, and Lee's eyes are strangely blue when he looks at her.
"Requited love. It can too."
(...)
"You could come with me. I could show you the universe."
Bill looks at Laura and Laura looks at Bill, and the Doctor looks at them both, for a strange moment wishing he could be in their skin and be able to find a whole universe in just another person.
Hand in hand, he shows universes. To Rose. To Martha. To so many others. He never shares them, and he can feel a moment of strange jealousy as Bill and Laura link hands.
'Die a Dawn'. Kara, Lee, little Adama/Roslin:
"The Fleet should be here tomorrow," Lee remarks, watching Bill help Laura out of the raptor so gently. Even from here, he can see the look on her face, like a sun turned to his father.
"Tomorrow," Kara says absentmindedly, her eyes on the horizon.
"We've set up some tents for the night. Dad's taking one. We could..." He trails off a little, and she finally, finally looks at him. "I haven't seen a dawn in so long."
"Dawn," she says faintly, and her eyes are strangely bright. "Aren't you tired of the sun yet, Apollo?"
'Life's a Time Machine'. Ten 10.5/Rose:
It's the second day of the rest of the Doctor's life, and he is watching the sunrise.
He remembers five million, three thousand, four hundred and eight of them. On distant planets for the first time, on Gallifrey for the ten thousandth, on Pluto for an unfortunate planetoid bowling mishap, on Earth so many times it became homely. Even in Norway a few times, though most of them involved moose and/or Vikings with not nearly as impressive antlered headbutts.
He remembers five million, three thousand, four hundred and eight sunrises, and this is still the first he actually sees.

Date: 2009-04-07 12:28 am (UTC)I knew Moffatt would do that because the fans have been clamoring for it. And as long as they don't half-ass it, most everyone will be happy.
