*yawns* I hate early mornings, I really do.

The reason I got up early is that I went shopping very early today, as Monday is the 17th of May (Norway's National Day) and a public holiday, so everyone stocks up slightly. It was insane. There's a strike in food deliveries to all the major grocery chains save one, and everyone's going there now. The lines reminded me of Norwegians shopping across the border (that truly is insane). The newspaper journalists are striking as well. The breweries might strike next week and the teachers the week after that. I cannot recall the last time Norway's had this much striking going on. Good grief.

In other news, the Danish crown prince has married his Australian sweetheart and all of Denmark is very happy. Huzzah for them!

And the Mirror editor, who published those pictures of alleged British abuse of prisoners, has been sacked. It seems those photos were fake after all. Interesting...

On that note, I was watching a foreign affairs show the other day, and they were talking about the American abuse pictures and how the impact of these might be similar to the impact of pictures from Vietnam. And so they showed those images. I've seen some of those before, but... Good grief. I felt sick. But it made me wonder. Has the US forgotten what it did during Vietnam since so many Americans seem to refuse to believe abuse in Abu Ghraib happened or seem to want to blame everyone and anyone else for it? Ordinary people can do terrible things. Europe learned it through two horrid, horrid wars. I don't wish that kind of lesson upon anyone. Not even Bush.

Meanwhile, on a more cheerful note... Today is Eurosong night! And the arsenal of WMDs that Norway will have for our invasion of the US (now called "The Return of Leif") will grow. Ye-es... (Incidentally, if you are American and wish to join our side, norwegianne and I will consider your plea.)

I already began the mocking of Eurosong at work today. One of my co-workers had been out on the town after the Viking game, and saw it... without the sound. He told me that it was enough horror, just that...

I went shopping for Mum yesterday. I don't want to set foot in another store while there's a strike. People are crazy. Normally you'd think people actually had work just before noon on a Friday, but nooooooo... everybody was at Coop.

Will take notes during Eurosong, because some of the songs, while they're all frightening when you're listening, can get lost quickly...

yes, huzzah for them. It was televised here, you know... The last time there was this much fanfare on Australian TV over a royal wedding was Charles and Di.

I'm happy for them, but cynical about our media... suddenly it's cool to talk about Denmark, when I reckon half the population wouldn't even be sure which continent it's in. And if I hear one more time about "oops, her hat blew off!!"

I'm not even going to try to pretend that I have the faintest clue about what Eurosong is (Iggar'nt 'Merican that I am----or too old for pop culture, either excuse works for me), but I definitely want in on the invasion. I live in a coastal town with a good harbor, not too far from Boston, and right off I-95; might this not make a decend landing site for any water craft involved?

Besides, I can always stock up on quahogs to go along with the lutefisk as weaponry. Those little bastards HURT when they're hummed at your head!

Hmm...torn.

On the one hand, I'm proud of my Norwegian heritage. My great-uncle Carl traced our family line backbackback to the Vikings, which may explain my urge to pillage the White House right now.

On the other hand, I'm waiting to see if Kerry gets into office and FIXES some of this crap. I met him January '02, and he's very nice, and has managed to hold his own in Massachusetts with the Kennedy family. I think the Shrub is in for much more of a challenge than he knows.

Yes, I wish to join "The Return of Leif", even though I'm an American. I can honestly say the things that have been happening since this "War on Terrorism" has started are making me want to deny this country ever exsisted. I really think that we made a HUGE mistake in putting another Bush in the oval office. The US is quickly losing the respect of other nations because we feel like we have to be the world's police force. All for what? Oil? Power? There are ways around the oil issue, if we just put the time, money, and brainpower behind it. Ok, enough of my rant, but yes, I would like to be a part of "The Return of Leif", if at all possible.

There's a Syttende Mai (sp?) party thing somewhere near here today. Some small town founded by Norwegian immigrants, I think. And they can't have it on the 17th becasue that's a Monday. Americans are like that, you know. Every holiday is either moved to Monday or celebrated on Saturday. Unless it's Christmas or Fourth of July.
