A Day With Adora
Feb. 26th, 2005 12:21 amBeen having the most insane long conversation with
adoralyna, covering an equally insane range of topics. She also made me two me-icon-bases.

I look almost pretty and all :)
Woke up this morning to hangover, people on my flist fighting and general feeling cranky. But the day has improved. Norway won two golds and a silver, Bush has left Europe, I watched Whale Rider on DVD (so lovely), read exciting things about the CSI ep aired in the US (ah, flirts and dinners), read insane wank, chatted with lovely people, stayed out of fights, laughed at my own hideous badfic of the past and my exclamation mark fetish, pondered plot bunnies, found some pretty icons, ate popcorn, downloaded music vids (my newest addiction) and generally wasted time in a pleasurable manner. I should maybe feel guilty I didn't do any work. But bollocks to that.
Norwegian Heritage - Some lovely pictures.
Wary friends - US and Europe
Christopher Lee is a busy boy
And a meme, if you so want.
Give me a favourite quote from anywhere.
Give me your favourite not-intended-to-be-funny funny quote.
Give me the most truth-filled quote you know.
Give me your favourite quote about your country.
Give me your favourite quote from me.

Date: 2005-02-25 04:28 pm (UTC)So, here's the meme:
1) Favourite quote from Lord of the Rings:
"My friend, you had horses, and deeds of arms, and the free fields; but she, born in the body of a maid, had a spirit and courage at least the
match of yours. [...] But who knows what she spoke to the darkness, alone, in the bitter watches of the night, when all her life seemed shrinking, and
the walls of her bower closing in about her, a hutch to trammel some wild thing in?"
2) Favourite not-intended-to-be-funny funny quote (from a recent RL conversation about Lord of the Rings):
"I do not think that any women in Tolkien ever menstruated."
3) My favourite (and very lengthy) most truth-filled quote can be found here. It is probably more than only a bit cheesy, but I love it nevertheless -- sentimentalism and all.
4) Hm, it's hard to find good, witty or funny quotes about Germany. If you should, however, be interested in bittersweet satirical 19-th century poetry on what it feels like to be German for someone who was driven into exile because of political views, just click here for the poem "Germany -- A Winter's Tale" It is very lengthy, but simply the first part would be enough for the beginning. :)
5) Favourite quote from you: "Hoo boy!"
After reading (and re-reading) OFUM, I caught myself using that particular phrase quite a lot.
P.S: I kind of like your new icon bases, and you do look pretty.

Date: 2005-02-25 04:55 pm (UTC)"For myself," said Faramir, "I would see the White Tree in flower again in the courts of the kings, and the Silver Crown return, and Minas Tirith in peace: Minas Anor again as of old, full of light, high and fair, beautiful as a queen among other queens: not a mistress of many slaves, not even a kind mistress of willing slaves. War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend: the city of the Men of Numenor; and I would have her loved for her memory, her ancientry, her beauty, and her present wisdom. Not feared, save as men fear the dignity of a man, old and wise."
Aka, Why I Love Faramir, and Why Fandom Is Applicable To Current Events. (Let it be noted that I don't equate Arabs with Mordor.)

I might be mistaken, but wasn't it you who wrote a very angry e-mail to some woman called K.Parker, after she had written an incredibly stupid "I-bid-you-stand-men-of-the-West" online article trying to exploit Tolkien for Bush's warmongering? If that has been you, let me tell you that I loved you for it.

Date: 2005-02-25 09:58 pm (UTC)1. Hmm... have lots of favourite quotes, but what I can think of now is:
"And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade on high, saying O Lord bless this Thy holy hand grenade, that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemies into tiny bits, in Thy mercy. And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon lamb, and carp, and sloth, and orang-utang, and breakfast cereals..."
"Skip a bit, brother."
"And the Lord spake, saying first shalt thou count to three. Three shalt be the number of the counting, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four counst thou not, nor count thou two, excepting that thou then proceedest on to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, lobbest thou thy holy hand grenade towards thy foes, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it."
Hoo. Long quote.
2. "Frolic naked on the grass!" - Tom Bombadil, FOTR
3. "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players..."
4. This is a really hard one, I don't really know any quotes about Australia, do you?
5. Your entry about getting flamed by sephiroth7 or whatever the hell he was called.

Three-edged sword. What else is there to say?
Give me your favourite quote about your country.
"The United States invented the space shuttle, the atomic bomb and Disneyland. We have 35 times more land than New Zealand, 80 times the population, 144 times the gross national product and 220 times as many people in jail.
Many of our big cities have more kilometres of freeway than all of New Zealand, our 10 biggest metropolises each have more people than all of New Zealand, and metropolitan Detroit has more cars on the road than all of New Zealand.
So how come a superpower of 270 million got routed in the America's Cup, the world's most technically oriented yacht race, by a country of 3.5 million that outproduces us only in sheep manure?" ....... Eric Sharp 1995
