A Day of Ow
May. 6th, 2005 11:06 pmOw. Ow. Owowow.
That time of moth is just such a treat I can't even begin to tell you. It's always painful for me, but this month was bad. Thank you, mother nature. Sometimes it sucks to be a woman. In many, many ways. *bites back feminist rampage*
Am home watching the parents' house and my cat is sleeping on the floor next to me. Aw. I love my cat. He's sweet and cuddly and not batshit insane. Unless he has a strange mouse fetish I know nothing about.
Speaking of things insane - generally, I like hanging at Your Tax Dollars At Work, but sometimes I feel an urge to headwall. I get some people don't like Cath, but all the bashing gets a bit too much at times and now there seems to be a growing trend of picking on Greg too, since he and Sara get along. And since Greg is Norwegian-descendent on the show, I feel an Inner Viking rise. I Am Viking, See Me Smack.
Maybe I'll just write nice Greg and Catherine chapters for East of the Sun, West of the Moon... And tip-toe around YTDAW giving my nemesis evil glares, of course.
Meme that has been around:
01. Reply with your name and I will write something I like about you.
02. I will then tell what song/movie/icon reminds me of you.
03. If I were to apply an o'clock to you, it would be...
04. I will try to name a single word that best describes you.
05. I'll tell you the most memorable moment I've had with you. (I'm adding OR regarding you. You'll see what I mean)
06. I will tell you what animal you remind me of.
07. I'll then tell you something that I've always wondered about you.
08. Put this in your journal, (you know, if you want to, or whatever, and stuff.)
Various news:
Muted victory for Blair
Bush is in Europe again (Maybe that's why I'm in pain :P)
Schiavo judge is honoured - and protested (Protesters are still stalking him? Ye Gods.)
Norwegian tsunami survivors return to Thailand
Anti-gay remark stirs trouble for the Conservatives in Norway (Chaaaaaarming. We got some ways to go in Norway too, let me tell you.)
Oslo's main street has its face-lift finished (pictures) (This is where some of the events of East of the Sun, West of the Moon take place, if you're curious.)
Ow.

Date: 2005-05-06 03:24 pm (UTC)Ugh... see, I could handle "that time of the month" if it came like, once or twice in one's lifetime with plenty of warning in advance. This whole "once a month, nearly every month" thing is just needless cruelty!

Date: 2005-05-06 04:25 pm (UTC)My lastname is kickass Sandman, but my middle name can't even be spelled by Americans. Poor people.
I'd offer to make it, but I am crap at icon making, I fear. Maybe we can bribe someone. I think I'd use it too, just to see if people went WTF at it.

Date: 2005-05-06 04:41 pm (UTC)I was like "Hey Gwen, what are you not telling me?" ;)
Americans can't spell my middle name either. Apparently it is Hebrew. I was raised a vegan for crapsake, I should be counting my blessings they didn't name me Rainbow Sunshine Harding.
But I hate when people call me Kammy. Hate! My boyfriend's mother does. Kills me.
Yes, yes with the bribing. We should totally use said graphics over at YTDAW. Can you imagine? Heh!

Date: 2005-05-06 04:54 pm (UTC)While it still surprises me when anyone says that, it doesn't bother me, as long as I'm not disgusting you with TMI or anything.
07. What's with all the weather interest?
Despite the fact that I'm sitting right next to a window, this is the only way I can tell what it's like outside.
Okay, okay, kidding. ;) Part of it is just a general interest in weather and earth sciences that I've had since I was a little kid (not to mention artwork and designs--I like looking at banners and graphics and stuff), and part of it is just my tendency to be indecisive about what model of something (like a weather sticker) I want most, and taking them all to solve the dilemma.

Date: 2005-05-06 04:59 pm (UTC)Texas has got its good stuff and its bad stuff. I'm not exactly proud of our state involving politics (if you have any liberal views, you WILL get chewed out at my school) or the psuedo-Bible thumping in my area. The weather is awful. The scenery is ugly: ugly roads, ugly trees, ugly grass, ugly construction sites, mostly ugly buildings. The music scene isn't so great: Ashlee + Jessica Simpson, Ryan Caberra (sp?), Kelly Clarkson, and Beyonce to name some. My freshman year is almost over, which means three more years of high school and hopefully, a college in California or the New England area because I am quite tired of living in suburban Texas where there are too many Walmarts and not enough indie films.
BUT
Wee little Hurst, Tx has attached lached onto my heart, stolen a section of it, and I don't think I could ever leave forever. I have so many memories here and experiences that Texas has successfully been pulling on my heartstrings. If it weren't for Texas, I would have never met some of the most brilliant (and open-minded) people. If it weren't for those people, I would have never been exposed to many imporant things in my life right now. There are people I don't particularly talk to in my English class who were in my kindergarten class 9+ years ago--and I'm going to miss them. I'm going to miss the only mall in the area that finally got a movie theatre. I'm going to miss the librarian, Rosalyn, who lets you call her Ros. I'm going to miss the painted pawprints that lead up to the elementary school. I'm going to miss the tortillas at Rosa's Cafe--which is only located in Texas.
I know the things mentioned above might not exactly pertain to Texas, but more to memories in general. I know that if I lived somewhere else, I'd have a different set of aspects to miss. But hey, if there's one thing about Texas that really means something to me: it's the people and experiences. I learned a lot here. I learned how important it is to be open-minded even when people around you could hate you for it. And even the negative aspects of Texas have been good for me--it makes me more interested in stuff outside of Texas and it really bugs me when the people at my school don't seem to understand that there's a whole other world, that there are so many other interesting things going on and all they do is complain about assigned seating at lunch.
So I guess I like Texas, even with all the stereotypes and aggravating things going on with it. Cheers to the Lone Star state for the memories.
P.S. Sorry this is so long.

Date: 2005-05-06 05:06 pm (UTC)My middle name is just boring Østlie, but since no one outside Scandinavia has ø in the alpabeth, it always ends up Ostlie. Hmpf.
You know, some people call me Cammy - we weren't twins seperated at birth or anything, were we?
*looks at flist* Oooh, bribable people, where art thou? (And I'm so with you on using it a YTDAW. Muhahaha.)

Date: 2005-05-06 05:20 pm (UTC)I didn't take it as a "Geez, what kind of loser are you?!" question or anything, if my answer came off that way. That is true--I'm often amused when people post screen caps of their desktops, and I see buttons for programs (like SETI) I wouldn't have imagined the person having.
