WIPs. Stories I've started, but might never finish. They aren't posted anywhere else (yet), so consider this an exclusive look. Some are newer, some are older. I stuck some bits from East of the Sun, West of the Moon at the end, which I promise I will finish.

Title: Uknown
What it is: Warrick and Sara go out, drink, have sex. Catherine and Grissom have to deal.
Excerpts:

He kisses me. His lips are rough and demanding on mine, no hesitation in seeking what he wants. The wall is hard against my back, but his hands are soft on my hips.

For a moment, I wish Grissom was the one doing it. But Grissom's skin doesn't feel like this and I let the illusion go. It is Warrick, tasting of beer and pepper and cheese.

He pulls back slightly, eyes blue as he regards me.

"I thought you and Catherine had something," I challenge.

"We do. But not like that, not yet."

"Are you getting even with her?"

"Are you getting even with him?" he challenges back. For a moment, we face off, as we have done so many times and something treacherous is aflame up my spine. Passion. Desire. Life.

****

"Did you sleep with him because you couldn't have me?" Grissom asks, his voice so even he must he hiding something beneath it.

"No. I slept with him because I could have him."

****

Catherine has his heart. But for a little while, I had his body and there was comfort in the touch of his skin.

Grissom is looking at me and I know he wonders, suspects, worries. Perhaps it is his time to pursue me now.

Maybe I'll even let him catch me.

Title: Only the Names Change
What it is: ”The war is never completely won. There are always new battles to be fought against the darkness. Only the names change.” Legolas, Gimli and Merry finds themselves in a future where different shadows loom, but where is still one last hope for victory…
Excerpt:

Legolas dreamt of time. Passed time, time gone, time that was.

He dreamt of Sauorn’s shadow, as black as a night sky bereft of stars, looming on the horizon. He dreamt of victory and the wind tearing darkness away. He dreamt of friends and ships and white shores and time.

Time passed. The present became history became mythology became echoes and still time passed. And then, in the darkness, darkness awoke. On a barren world, Shadows moved. And they screamed in Legolas’s mind or perhaps it was his scream, echoing across time.

White shores turned to dark space and the scream turned into a voice.

“I cannot create life. But I can breathe on the remaining embers…”

And panting, Legolas awoke to darkness beyond his time.

Title: Untitled
What it is: Agents Dead (yours truly) and Agent Heal (guess who) tackle the Sue to end all Sues. Jenna, Link's Queen
Excerpt:

Heal begun looking at the Words as Dead begun gathering a few weapons and equipment. She hoped this mission might finally allow her to test out her new whip.

“What is it we’re getting?” she asked casually. There was no answer. Turning, she saw Heal sitting wide-eyed and open-mouthed, staring.

“Heal? Come on, it can’t be that bad…” Dead said and caught a glimpse of the Words. “Oh my bloody God…”

“I know,” Heal whispered. “Based on lucid dreams! She even admits it’s a Sue right from the start!”

“No wonder four agents went stark raving mad,” Dead observed as some of the shock begun to wear of. “We can deal with this.”

“They bond.”

“Oh noooooo…”

“And what’s this about ‘from the gecko’? You know anything about that, Gecko?”

The Gecko, a lizard Heal and Dead kept as plant-waterer lifted its head (it was tanning under the bright desk light) and shook it.

“Smeg,” Dead remarked to no one in particular “Oh well. I get to see Hyrule at last. What shall we enter as?”

“Well, the Sue enter Hyrule as a merchant just before some bogus-sounding festival.”

“We’ll be weapons merchants then. That way we can get all our weapons there without raising much suspicion.”

“You got it, my Dead.”

Dead grinned. “Will be a pleasure working with you again, my Heal. Only your mind is devious enough to handle this kind of Sue.”

Heal smirked as she picked up the gear and donned her disguise, complete with some fake scars as to not attract the Sue. Sues hardly paid attention to anything that was not beautiful, after all.

Title: Dawn
What it is: The tale of Lianna, a paladin's daughter setting forth on her own adventures.
Excerpt:

Father….
Strangely how close I feel to you now, as I am about to leave, not knowing if I’ll ever come back. I can feel your blood in my veins, your spirit in my eyes, your love in my heart. And the longing in every part of my body.
Once, a long time ago, you told me you felt a longing too, a longing that brought you far and wide, and eventually to my mother. That I know, though you have never said it, but you eyes speak the truth when your voice will not.
I still do not know what happened 17 years ago that brought you here, other than that my mother is gone, and every time you look at me, you see her too. So I leave not only for my sake, but for yours. The time has come to make peace.
I must make peace with my heart, who calls out to me. It speaks of sunrises, open lands, forest, nights and campfires and adventures, and of finding my own path.
Is it out there, father? Did you find it? Is it in a forest under the warm rays of sun, or the pale moonlight?
I must walk till I find it, less I never be whole. I know you will understand, you too felt the longing and answered its call. And what have you trained me for if not this?
So now I leave the safety of home, and never have I felt more like your child than now.

Title: Untitled
What it is: Elrond heading for the Havens and thinking back
Excerpt:

The stars shone bright this night, hushing the world around. The moon basked all in silver, and shadows fell. Shadows that seemed to reach out and clutch his heart.

Elrond Peredhil, Lord of Rivendell, was riding to the Havens. At last the time had come to leave Middle-earth and cross the sea. The stars would be the same to gaze upon in Valinor, yet not. For Valinor had its own light.

Never again would starlight seem this precious. Never again would he see the Evening Star.

But across the sea waited another star, and he would have to tell her their daughter would not come. Their daughter was lost. Yet again death had come to his family. Arwen would fade into twilight and even good memories of her would taste of ash. Such was the bitterness of death. Elrond had tasted it before.

Still bright in his mind was Elros, great among men, an image of splendour and what had been lost never to be reclaimed. Men had faded. Elves had faded. The world was less.

Title: East of the Sun, West of the Moon
What it is: East of the sun and west of the moon it was, that she knew, "and there you arrive late or never." A daughter's death. A father's revenge. And the lives caught inbetween, chasing a fairytale. GSR, CWR.
Excerpts (from future chapters):

"I just want the possibility, Gil. I'm not looking for guarantees or promises or a house with picket fences and a dog and barbecue parties for our neighbours. I'm looking for you," she said simply, her voice even. Not pleading, not excusing, just stating a fact.

'That's what I'm afraid of,' he thought and for a moment, the silence seemed louder than all the roar the sea could ever muster.

"I.. I don't know what I can offer you," he started, feeling as if he was taking a wild fly off the ski jump looming over the city.

"You told me once I deserved to have a life," she cut in and past hurt seemed to lace her words. "Did you mean it?"

"Yes."

"And if the life I want is with you, do I deserve that still?"

****

"I haven't loved anyone in a long time," she replied, feeling Eddie's ghost pressing down on her, heavy and cold.

"I’ve been burned too, Cath," Warrick said casually, but she heard what was buried beneath the calm. She knew it from herself.

Pain and scares and ashes.

His face was almost boyish as she looked at him, a hint of the innocence he'd once held. She wondered what had burned it out of him. The father he'd never had? The lights of Las Vegas? Bullies of his childhood?

"I know," she said quietly.

"I don't want you to be hurt. In any way."

Eddie had promised not to hurt her, promised her the fairytale, but Warrick wouldn't offer that promise, she knew. It would be a promise he'd break. He knew love always brought some hurt, knew that children would hurt their parents, parents would hurt their children, lovers would hurt each other and yet the world would still move on and people would still love.

People would still love.

She was bright in the sun, her hair like a crown of gold, bright and fair and as Anna should have been. She was the one, stepping out of her car with a smile that seemed innocent and knowing all at once.

'Oh, Anna,' he thought, his heart pounding.

He made a note of her car plates and draining the last of his coffee, he went out into the sun again. Later, he would call one of his friends and find out who the plates belonged to, what name he would create Anna in this time.

What should he give her this time? Another cake? Perhaps he would deliver a wine to her, with roses. White roses if he could find them, white as Norwegian snow and Cecilie's smile.

Yes. Roses and wine and lullabies.

Maybe even a fairytale.
