Ah, I saw that. Not good. Not good at all. At least, not for Americans -- in order to enforce it against you, our government would have to put pressure on the Norwegian government to arrest you for displaying an icon or something that was accessible to Americans. Since your government is relatively sane, it would probably give the Shrub an upraised middle finger at any such demand.

Now, IANAL, and I spent maybe five minutes researching this so far, but here's where matters appear to stand now:

The law covers anything showing photos of naughty bits -- it tries to force you to prove the naughty bits do not belong to someone who was a minor at the time the photo was taken. Obviously, it goes WAAAY overboard; it's really meant as a backdoor form of censorship.

A court injunction has already been filed against the federal government to keep them from prosecuting members of the Free Speech Coalition until the injunction hearing in August, so the legal battle has already begun. I know who the FSC are -- they're a coalition of (mostly the more reputable sort of) pornographers and adult entertainment industry workers who fight for free-speech matters where they affect their industry. (Encouragingly, there's apparently been a rush of new members. Gee, wonder why . . . ;-) )

A further article states that the feds have already entered into a deal with the FSC.

Now, be warned that if you're not an FSC member, this doesn't protect you. My guess as to what will happen, based on my knowledge of past history, is that the government will make a wave of arrests of a few or a few dozen civilians -- likely more or less randomly -- and file charges against them. At least some of said citizens will contact other organizations devoted to protecting us against such idiocies, and there will be more legal battles. (The ACLU cannot get involved until someone loses a court case and makes an appeal.)

If the federal government doesn't just decide to formally declare a dictatorship or something, a case will eventually reach the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court will make a final, binding decision. If, again, the past is a guide, the Court will declare this law unconstitutional, and that will be the end of it -- after a massive waste of taxpayer dollars, of course.

But don't be too smug. In the 19th century, the Supreme Court ruled that the government could not open up Indian lands to white land speculators. Then-president Andrew Jackson simply declared, "The Court has made a decision, now let them enforce it", and kept on handing over lands illegally. Since he was backed by the people and the federal army, the Supreme Court could do nothing to enforce the law. (This is the origin of a lot of Indian lawsuits against the government in the past few decades, btw.) And the Bush administration is not noted for its respect for laws it doesn't like.
