I want to weep.

Not this shit again. Part of me wants to curse at the sodding bastards who did this, part of me just feels very, very tired. I hope all Brits on my flist are safe and that their friends and families are safe.

I love Britain. I've always been an Anlgophile, growing up with BBC programs and British authors and even British football. And somewhere in a dark part of me I know I've been waiting for this shit to happen, giving the UK's profile, given the Iraq mess, given the rotten world. Still, I am sorry. So very, very sorry. This should not happen. This should not be.

Yet it is.

And you bastards who did this, who attack innocent civilians where they are most vulnerable - you're no warriors in battle. Like so many before you, you are cowards in a war. You have no claim to the word 'warrior' or 'jihad.' You kill because you hate and I pity you, for it is all you'll ever know, all you'll ever be and you don't even understand why this is such a great sorrow. For this and this alone, I do pity you. For the rest - fuck you, you sodding murderous bastards.

Also, STFU Bush (and possibly Blair - I will reserve judgement on you for now. You did seem genuinly affected). If either of you try to take political advantage of this, I hope a whale falls on you both.

Terrorism is a tool of the weak--that's the first thing I learned about it in International Relations. Doesn't make it any easier to hear about, though.

I'm avoiding listening to Bush as much as I can. Sigh.

I'm so glad now my Nan moved to Scotland. Not that she often went to London, but still.

I called my Mum, and she didn't seem overly worried about anyone (I have heaps of cousins in England) so I take my cue from her.

But oh the poor people that *were* there!!

Terrorists must die in great pain and rot in everlasting hell.

I'm fine, as is everyone I know. I was lucky though-- if I'd left a bit earlier... I can hardly even think about it.

I hope everyone else is all right. These attacks aren't on the scale of 9/11 or Madrid, they seem to be more for effect than for body count, but that's not the point-- no one should've died at all. No innocent person should have to die because of some fucking misguided terrorist.

Dear lord... I heard about this from a message board I frequent... thankfully all the Londoners there (one of which happens to be one of my best friends) is all right. I'm thankful there weren't as many casualties as I had thought upon first hearing about it. Still though.... I feel terrible for those who were there, either injured or killed by these attacks.

**shakes head sadly** Why can't people just get along? >

You said that very well.
It's just so damn disheartening to have this happen again and again. No matter where, it hits all of us in a way.

Blair did seem genuinely crushed, though time will tell what will come off this.
Bush spewed forth more of his same old shit. I bet being able to blame someone specific will come in handy for him just now.

Yeah, and this is probably better for Bush than all those shark attacks that have been in the news lately, too. *sighs*

And I was going to go to England a week from Friday for three weeks...

Now my parents aren't sure. I highly doubt something again will happen that close and yet that far away from today and I don't think we'll be in London for very long (maybe 4 or 5 days). And they'll probably be heightened security and all. But still, it sucks.

And I totally agree with you about those damn terrorists not being warriors. Attacking armies is regrettable for us, but at least our armies know how to fight and have weapons and are prepared and make it, in essence, a 'fair' fight. Innocent civilians don't and it is cowardly to take it out on them just because you hate that country/it's political leader.

I think the best quote I heard about this was from someone that works with my husband. (Their company has offices in New York and London - my husband being in the New York office and this man being in the London office):

"Another case of Al-Q cowards murdering office workers & pretending its a great military strike of some kind."

That's all it is. I mean, it's terrible and all, but if they had real balls, they'd go after military targets and not innocent civilians. Cowards. Dogs.

I'm a passionate London-fan. I've visited it three times, the last time two years ago together with my husband and my eldest son. We took the tube to King's Cross and St. Pancras and I showed him the station they filmed for Harry Potter. He wore a Gryffindor-scarf I had knitted for him and was absolutely excited.

How I hate those murderers - and how they smear the fate they claim to defend with their mindless terror. No - not really mindless. They knew very well what they did, and it was perfectly planned. Homo homini Lupus est indeed.

I live slightly to the South of England, but it was horrible not knowing a whole hell of a lot all day. The Death toll went from 2, in the morning, to 33 by the next time I heard the news...

Also, STFU Bush (and possibly Blair - I will reserve judgement on you for now. You did seem genuinly affected).

I'm actually rather impressed with Blair - at the press conference he didn't seem to know what to say, and looked near tears at the events.

And what good would that do? Kill a few soldiers - if you can even get at a military base - and there's hundreds more. Take out the transport system in central London - which was what this was designed to do, not to kill large numbers of people - and you paralyse the capital of the UK for a day, possibly more. It's easy to see which is more effective, and very hard to see why you should let a few civilians stand in the way.

And (back to the original points) as to people taking political advantage of it... the Shadow Home Secretary made a speech. He was virtually giggling with glee at the opportunity to get one up on Labour. I wanted to hit him.

I found out by an email list and now my TV is CNN. Everyone on my email list is accounted for so far. But those are the ones that actually do something. *Sigh* This is just a topper. The innocents... They... They didn't even do anything, they were just going to work! *sniffle*

I wonder how someone I haven't talked to in years is doing. She lived in London... I don't have her AIM... *gets worried

Anyhoo. Good luck to all the people over there in Britain. I hope the death number doesn't climb higher...Or the injured list for that matter, but mostly the death number.

The Olympics was the first thing that popped into my mind this morning too, but I think it was rather because of the G8 Summit. I mean, something like this takes time to plan and they didn't know London would actually host the Olympics till yesterday.

The British opposition seemed all ready to start using this to smakc one over Labour. I get so sick of politics sometimes. The Spanish government tried to get political gain by blaming ETA early on for the Madrid bombs - that backfired on them. I hope the same happens if anyone tries it in Britain. People died. This is not an election jippo they can all use at will.

Yeah. In a way, these bastards have already gotten part of what they wanted - people are afraid. Who can blame them?

Innocent civilians have almost always been sufferers in war. But it feels to be that they're increasingly becoming a target of stronger value than military targets, and this does worry me.

I've been to London twice. I love it, even with the mad traffic. I grew up with so many British influences I feel like this is personal.

Yeah, they know what theÿ're doing and yet not, you know? People can lose themselves in an ideology as Europe very well knows. These people have. I don't think they truly do understand what they are doing. Maybe they never will.

Can you believe it - they're using talk about terror and preventing it here in Germany to make not-too-subtle hints about the advantages of various political parties here since we'll have an election soon. How insensitive is that? I hate politics.

Actually, the only opposition who used this event for political gain was the leader of 'The Respect Party'- and he's an arse. And was torn to pieces in the houses of parliment for his lack of sympathy. Both the Tories and Lib Dems are standing side by side with Labour at the moment... which is rare! So far I'm pretty proud of Blair.
