In the news:
Continued high oil prices may been a very bright future for Norway
Human rights more important than war on terror, Norwegians think
British police apologies for the death of innocent Brazilian (In a follow-up - he appears to have been in the UK legally).
The invasion of Iraq may have created Iran's new bestfriend

I worry sometimes about the mess we make of this world. And the worst of it is probably that a lot of it is done with all the best intentions in the world. How do you battle that?

And yet, I am ever a closet optimist. I believe in making things better. Still, there are mornings when it all feels very gloom.

In the less serious aspects of life (though you wouldn't think it sometimes!), CSI spoilers are messing with my mind. Arg.

Idea nicked from several people:

I'm planning on redoing my userinfo slightly. For that, anyone feel like making either a little graphic or giving a "testimonial"? (Examples here.) I shall love you forever. You can post it in comments here, if you want.

I'm a Pollyanna - I believe there is good in everything, and good in everything we do. Needless to say, I get let down a lot. It's a sad fact, but the world is very strange at the moment and that feeling of helplessness we have will only get bigger.

Bah. On a happier note...you can count on me for a testimonial. :D

Yeah, it's a path full of disappointments, but it also means seeing every tomorrow as new hope.

I shall look forward to it.

I was going to make you a testimonial, one that totally a joke, but I figured you might just hate me forever, so... never mind.

I do believe my sense of humour can take most jokes, oh yes.

I don't think you would, especially if it made fun of your.. shippings.

Well, that would depend. If it was something like "Miss Cam's interest in shipping Grissom and Sara is another sad sign of her strange attraction to vintage men", and thus mostly mocking me... That'd amuse me. Ship-bashing in itself that wasn't really to do with me at all... Eh.

I... um... was supposed to say how much you idolized Babydoll and hated YoBling... and thought how much you might hate me afterwards for it..

Sneeeeerk. Now see, that would just amuse me. And who could help but love Babydoll, given how much amusement she has brought me?

Hmm, a testimonial, eh?

'I tried Miss Cam and saw results within a week! Miss Cam is so easy to assemble - just open the box and read the handy directions! Your satisfaction guaranteed or your money back! I just know you'll enjoy your Miss Cam as much as I do mine!'

.. That turned out pretty scary, but then it was guaranteed to.

*pats* I know what it's like. These are hard time's for us optimists'.

My testimonial:

"Miss Cam's LJ is like stick-figure porn - hard to figure out, yet hilarious as hell!"

:D

I'm just never going to get away from those stick figures.

My testimonial: "Misscam is the Cammiest Cam that ever walked the earth. The Revolution is coming. LONG LIVE LEIF."

I don't know what kind of graphic you'd like but I could make one.

*shrugs* Something that fits this LJ, be it something of my fannis interests, Norway, silly Bush, my general love of writing and reading... I don't know, just something you'd find fitting. I like to be surprised.

"Miss Cam: Thoughtful, funny, and friendly. Even better than chocolate-covered mini-balrogs!"

"Kitty-loving, Bush-bashing, snark, and Olympic Ogling. What more can you ask for?"

...right. Was looking for something other than mini-balrogs to smother in chocolate, but the only other word that came to mind was "hot dogs." O_o (Might get back to you on that one, when I don't need chocolate so badly myself.)

Anyway, whichever of the two fits in with the testimonials best, feel free to use. ^_^

Well, I am sick now. I don't like hot dogs, and how dare one ruin the taste of chocolate in my imagination!

But I guess the statement that you're better than a chocolate-covered hot dog would be true, then... :P

Ahem.

Go Norwegians.

I have a question, though.

Why was it so necessary to shoot the guy? Couldn't they have thwacked him with a nightstick? Or are British police a bunch of trigger-happy nutcases?

They were afraid he was a suicide bomber - and they've established a 'shoot to kill' policy for those.

*shakes head* It's a tragedy.

I am ever a pessimist. I believe that the world is in trouble, it's obviously all our fault, and there's not a lot that can be done to make the world better. I wish there was somewhere else I could go, but...

How's this:
"Miss Cam in a nutshell: Proud as hell, talented as hell, smart as hell, and believes in 'Learning through Pain.' Need I say more?"

That was a complement, by the way. At least in my book. Dunno whether you think so.

I'm in a very strange mood. I'll write a much better one latter.

There's always something that can be done to make the world better. But like everything, it comes at a price.

It's enough to keep the likes of me from reading the news. Oy.

As to a testimonial:

"misscam writes some of the best fic I've read. And she likes hedgehogs. That's a big plus."

Hope tomorrow is less gloomy for you!

Well, as it turns out the wet and cold weather of late have given me a serious cold, so am sick. But it'll pass and things will get less gloomy. /inner optimist

Nasty! I too have a cold, apparently brought on by the recent spate of hot, muggy weather. Minnesota, the Frozen North, my sweet patoot. :P

I've been to Minnesota. Nice place, and just as chilly as a Norwegian would feel at home in.

Humidity is death on the immunesystem, I think.

You know, we mess with the world so much and so often, it's a wonder that it hasn't exploded or imploded or just gone "boom", already. It's scary because everyone blames religion and weapons and whatever, and the thing is "guns don't kill people, people kill people". Such a true statement, so why is no one saying to themselves "Maybe this is wrong" and "Maybe, just maybe, I shouldn't blow myself up" and just... stop. I was watching the news a while back and it asked the question "Would the world be a better place without religion?" I left the room after that.
It's possible that things will get better, and it's possible things'll get worse, and when that happens, I hope I'm not around for that.

My testimonial:
"Norwegian, funny, intelligent. Miss Cam in three words. Not only did she write one of the most popular fics out there, possibly the most popular, she did it with class. So add "Classy" to the big "list-o-words" to describe Miss Cam, because she's just that. And funner than hell. Definitely."

Or if you're looking for something less serious:

"Viva la Miss Cam!"
