Does anyone else find fanfics mainly written to preach just a little bit annoying?

Sara finds God (Example of this Cam found while skimming CSI fanfic.)

I realise their faith is precious to those who have it and they want to show that, but fanfic is maybe not the greatest medium for that, hmm? Then again, maybe I'm easily annoyed.

Have gotten my computer over to my parents', so now I can get on the IMs and otherwise fiddle about. I might not be the most sociable or the nicest being these days, though. You've been warned. Also, my Civ2 CD seems to be broken and I mourn. It's such a great game to play somewhat distractedly and feel like a true world ruler. Woe.

Petition against Norwegians on the Internet - Yeah, that'll get us offline.

Robertson thinks the US should assassinate the president of Venezuela - Yeah, that'll just do wonders for the opinion of the US at large. But if Pat thinks this a good way to conduct affairs between countries - how many countries would sign up for the removal of a certain Texan in the White House? And of course, I'm sure a deal could be made for little Pat too.

He meant nothing sexual by it and Sara knew that.

Because Christians don't have teh dirty sex, omgz.

At least the author hasn't given Sara an eating disorder yet. Or babies.

I had no idea you could petition for nationalities to get off the net. I say we go after the Dutch.

WTF? If a person needs to preach from *fanfic* they must be really desperate.

Everyone knows that Norwegians improve the Internet by 20%. That's compared to Canada's 22%.

Pat Robertson should be arrested and shipped to Guantanamo. They could do that; it's in the "Struggle Against Violent Extremism."

You know, at first I wondered if that petition isn't some sort of joke. Then I realised that the internet is full of nutballs with absolutely nothing better to do, so now I believe it is real.

Repost of a comment I've just deleted because my HTML skills suck.

Maybe one should tell this CSI fangirl that there are more useful (and less obtrusive) ways of living one's Christian faith, both ethically and spiritually, than trying to proselytize people through fanfiction. This doesn't work anyway, for God's sake.

And the suggestion to assassinate Hugo Chavez isn't even the weirdest or most outrageous thing Pat Robertson has ever said... I think I used to have an essay about his conspiracy theories and his political views extremism somewhere in the chaos that is my room. This article made quite an ... interesting read.

I think this kind of preaching is the kind of thing that turns people like me away from Christianity. The people who would tempt me to convert are those Christians who set an example through living their religions teachings and see their faith as a deeply personal thing.

Pat Robertson - never had the displeasure of knowing about him. Sounds rather like a Fred Nile character *shudder*

if you hate review anyway and tell me why, and if it’s because it has a Christian basis then well don’t review I don’t care!

Oh, it's not because it has a Christian basis that I hate it. It's because when fanfics (or any stories) have nothing but a Christian basis, they're not very interesting. And I read fanfics to be entertained, not to consider my faith, or to pat someone else on the back for sharing theirs. :P

And Pat Robertson... isn't he also the guy who was praying to God on TV for Supreme Court vacancies? *shakes head*

the fic makes me twitch.

The petition makes me laugh, because it's online, so it does absolutely nothing.

And Pat Robertson makes me even more ashamed to be American.

Ah yes, the wandering Proselytizing!Sue - one of the most irritating subspecies.

The more wildly inappropriate the fandom, the better. My favorites are the Lord of the Rings ones. (You do realize you're in Mythical-Ancient-Europe and that Christ won't be born for thousands of years yet, right miss? Clearly not. Never mind.)

I've seen good religious fanfics (Jodancingtree comes to mind in the LOTR fandom) but I agree that most of the time I just sporfle when reading them.

Did you read the Christian Sailor Moon fic sporked on GAFF where the girls were buying accessories for the prom ball and kneeling in the shop to thank Jesus? It was terribly funny.

I didn't read the fic, but I don't think fic is necessarily a bad place to preach. If it's done right, that is, since I happen to believe acts speak louder than words, and fic-writing is primarily an act. A creative one, at that, thus perfect for reflecting faith.

Perhaps not as good a place as original fiction (such as the Chronicles of Narnia and LotR--one is certainly more obvious than the other, but both authors subscribed to the idea of the True Myth and wrote according to their faith.)

Have I written Christian-based fics? Ohhh yes. Almost all of them are to some degree or another, although not all of them are obvious (certain degrees of obviousness are difficult to reach in -verses where Christianity as such doesn't exist), and the only ones with actively Christian characters are the ones in fandoms with actively Christian canon characters.

I don't think I could handle a Proselytizing!Sue, though.

Just read an essay that I'd love to share with obviously religious Sues: Siddown, you're rockin' the boat. I don't care what your religion is, don't beat us over the head with it. That's an Offense Unto Nuggan. Thank you.

I saw a bit on the President of Venezuela on the news last night. Can you say "repeating the cycle?" They're hardly even trying to cover up the need for oil as the main excuse anymore. Must find some other damn source of fuel. Is ethanol or cooking oil really all that hard to adapt new cars to?

Bah. Thank gods for Norwegians on the net. It gives one some hope for sane people.

Petition against Norwegians on the Internet

What the...? Is it...a joke? I'm sitting here and I'm trying to think of something negative regarding Norway and Norwegians but I honestly can't think of a personally bad experience or reference. For some reason the Norway pavilion at our city's Expo back in '86 comes to mind and all the people I met there were awesome. And veeeeery attractive. And speaking of Expo '86 and Norwegian things, I saw a-ha perform at one of the venues there. Hee. Hmm... now a writer has come to mind: Knut Hamsun, whose books I read back in high school. Okay, not the most cheerful of novels, but still very well written and interesting. Anyway! Weird, weird petition.

And Pat Robertson is insane so we'd all be better off ignoring him.
