Roald Dahl is a genius.
So is Tim Burton.
And Johnny Depp, really.
And of course the one and only Willy Wonka.
Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka,
the amazing chocolatier.
Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka,
everybody give a cheer!
He's modest, clever, and so smart,
he really can't restrain it.
With so much generosity,
there is no way to contain it.
Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka,
he's the one that you're about to meet.
Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka,
he's the genius who just can't be beat.
A magician and a chocolate whiz,
he's the best darn guy who ever lived,
Willy Wonka, here he is!
(Yes, Cam has been to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. You may guess her opinion.)

Willy Wonka being slightly creepy is oart of the charm. It's a wild, morbid adventure. If it was too nice, it wouldn't feel like Dahl.

Date: 2005-09-22 09:33 pm (UTC)And for the first time, I think, I actually got the proof that Roald Dahl and Hollywood can go together (the movie version of Matilda, however, was just plain awful...).
Last but not least: Icon love! :D

Date: 2005-09-23 04:37 am (UTC)And this movie did indeed prove Dahl can also be gold on screen, if you actually dare stick to the theme and feel of his books without being utterly slavebound to it. It should be slightly nasty and creepy.
Ah yes.... Matilda. Not the best movie I've seen.

Date: 2005-09-24 07:17 am (UTC)My friend liked it. But then, he liked War of the Worlds. But he liked Shaun of the Dead. But he likes coffee. But he leant me KOTOR! But he didn't mind Garfeild. Rather confusing, he is...
And now, for a ditty of my own...
"Don't go near that old man," said my mum and dad,
"He's been here for twenty years and we know that he's mad,"
"It's true, the years of hermitage have driven him crazy,
for each and ev'ry day and night he whispers to that tree."
Ah, poor foolish mum and dad, their warnings I ignored,
I heard and watched the mad old man one day when I was bored,
He said to it, "Nora, pass me specs if you don't mind,
For if I were without them I would probably go blind!"
Air of Mystery - He's a poet and he knows it quite well, actually.
