Cam Toasts the UN and Talk Fics
Oct. 25th, 2005 03:34 amHappy birthday, United Nations!
BBC sums up its 60 years
Norway's always been a stout backer of the UN - we're on the top ten donor list twice - and this has of course coloured my view. It's never been perfect, but quite frankly, the alternatives tend to scare me. So, may you still be here in some shape in sixty more years, UN and maybe I'll be around too, toasting you.
On another matter entirely - I noticed over at YTDAW, someone was complaining about getting reviews pointing out characters were OOC when the author had warned it was Out of Character in the author's notes. Which made me wonder if really, is it okay to have something OOC as long as you warn of it? I guess it depends of the degree a bit, but I must admit it still made me go "Hmmm".
Or maybe I'm just a fanfic snob.
Speaking of fanfics - Updated The Passing of Seasons with Autumn. FF.net / CSI Forensics /Geekfiction.
Just one more part now, then finish Shades of Dawn and my CSI fic obligations are out of the way. Bit sad of late that it feels like obligations and Doctor Who feels like I really want to write. But that can change, of course. I've come back to CSI before and been re-inspired to write, so doing something else for a bit might even be good for my inspiration.
Speaking of which,
lotus79 and I are plotting a Doctor Who fic together. All the years we've known each other and we've actually never co-written anything before. Should be great.
Sneak peek, since I'm feeling generous:
900 years and millions of languages and he couldn't think of one word the moment he sank into her for the feel of it. No word to capture it in memory with, but he'd have to burn a thousand deaths before forgetting this.
Her nails were burrowing into his skin, leaving marks. White to red to fading. He could feel the change and when he lifted his hand to her temple, he could feel the it there too. Her body was moving with his and somewhere in her mind, a flame was changing to a burn.
"Doctor," she whispered and because he had no words, he kissed her. Lips still swollen from his previous kisses, yielding to him again and even as kissing her was beginning to feel familiar, he knew every time would be like the first.
Time wasn't a straight line, he'd told her once. Circles and triangles and hexagons and shapes not even a Time Lord could know, all swirling in the vortex of time. Moments followed moments in line only if you were a stupid ape, and he was never that.
That didn't stop him from sometimes, just sometimes, envying her.
She drew a shuddering breath against his lips, and he closed his eyes, feeling his heartbeats slow, her heartbeat slow too, time around them like a blanket, still. So very still, embraced by her skin.
He could stay a lifetime in her, just still like this, but even Time Lords couldn't halt all of time. If he was the storm, time was the sea, and it broke all.
With a breath, he returned to time and kissed her as he let go, lost himself just for a moment.
And in the sea that was time, a wave was changing.

Rather odd naked man incident
Norwegian national fundraiser a sucess

Date: 2005-10-25 03:13 am (UTC)I was intending to catch up with study during my free hours at uni yesterday, but then I find myself on the internet trying to find if any human has been reported with two hearts before...
(and there have been a couple, which is helpful with that avenue of plot ;)
Right now I'm sposed to be researching video editing software for a presentation on the use of technology in drama and english education

Date: 2005-10-25 04:50 am (UTC)Nice ficbit by the way...not into Doctor Who at all, but I don't think I needed to be to enjoy that.

Date: 2005-10-25 06:10 am (UTC)The concept of that just makes me slightly iffy... but I'll certainly give an author credit for being upfront about it rather than just not seeing it.
Heh. Don't need to know Canon for the smut, huh?

Date: 2005-10-25 06:23 am (UTC)If they don't care, yeah, it's just being cheap.
And no, heh, no need for canon to get the smut. It's very nice, almost melancholy in a way while still being romantic. Quality smut, in any case.

Date: 2005-10-25 06:41 am (UTC):) A lot of people seem to find my writing slightly melancholy - got some of the same comments on other Doctor Who pieces, and even the CSI fic I updated today. Curious...
