Various musings
May. 24th, 2003 12:02 pmI'm tired. Managed to get all the filming done for one of my TV stories, and got another lined up for tomorrow (It's the start of Sorry week, so I'm doing a bit on that). Have my religion presentation due Tuesday, but I'm more or less ready. Just need to write the 500 word summary of the thing. Then it's a 500 word summary of globalisation due beginning of June, a stupid 'evaluate your progress' for TV due June 9, an evaluation of my internship due whenever and one take-home exam... and then I shall be free! FREE! *throws confetti* And homebound, of course.
Speaking of home... Norwegian media has pounced upon the threat I mentioned last entry, and are now doing sections like 'The war on terror reaches Norway' (and silly graphics like you can see as the upper banner here), 'the man who threatens Norway'. Gee, overreacting much? Oh well. I suppose it was bound to happen. Given how quiet and rather dull Norway tends to be, a story like that won't be forgotten for a long while back home. I still wish I knew what the heck naming Norway was all about, though. Maybe al-Quaeda has a world map, and whenever they want to spice up their threats a bit it goes a bit like this:
Terrorist: Who shall we threaten today, O Magnificent Leader?
Leader: Throw a dart at the map, O Martyr. Allah shall guide your hand to the infidels.
Terrorist: (throws) It guided me to Norway, O Leader.
Leader: Nor-way? Is that not where ABBA came from?
Terrorist: No, that is Sweden, O Magnificence.
Leader: Sweden, Norway, who cares! They are all Infidels! They shall all feel the rage of Allah!
Terrorist: Does this mean I must burn my ABBA tapes?
*snerk* (No disrespect to genuine muslims intended *bows*)
In other news, Evilchild seems to have been kicked off ff.net for good. One of her friends keep e-mailing me, though *rolls eyes* To ignore her or not to ignore her... Hmmm. Guess we'll see. Must first survive this weekend. If I get both my stories done (they're not due for a week, but around that time, everyone else will be stressing), I will be very happy. Fingers crossed. Then I can pounce upon plagiarist's whiny friend.
And of course, this weekend is Eurosong weekend. Ah, the spectacular crappiness and cheesiness of it all... SBS is airing it, to my great joy. I think I'll even call and commend them. Eurosong is the annual 'Eurovision Song Contest', that has been going on for decades. Every country has a yearly contest to decide which uniquely created song shall present them in the Eurosong and then all the countries compete. The winner gets to arrange next year's Eurosong (thus getting much free publicity and advertisement. Eurosong is very watched Europe wide). Norway is competing, of course. We probably won't win (we've only won twice in all of Eurosong's history), but we'll see. The Russian T.a.T.u might win, which would be interesting. I don't think Russia has won before.
Some interesting news:
No one is likely to find tonnes of chemical weapons in Iraq, according to report
Victims of peace
The Iraqi viewpoint
(Yeah, I've been reading the Times of late. What of it?)
Of course, the new UN resolution gives the US and Britain control of the oil revenue for Iraq for a good while, which I rather think will not make the Arab world happy (even if it's all used for good). Nor is it likely to make the Iraqis happy. But we will see, I guess. It gives me some hope that the US has opened more for UN involvement, though I still think US and Britain should not be running Iraq. And not just because I opposed the war, but because I think it could increase the danger to the US - not diminish it. I have seen nothing so far that convinces me the US can do a good job at rebuilding Iraq either - but we will see. We will see.
*sniggers at e-mail* Someone writes me to write their Sue into OFUM as a teacher? Yeah, that'll happen...

RE: Various musings
Date: 2003-05-24 05:54 am (UTC)Most of us Brits opposed the war, and don't want the oil. I'm fairly certain Tony Blair will not be Prime Minister for a third term, even if it does mean voting in the Conservatives. They can't do any worse, can they?
And as for Norway...it's quite possible that because Norway and Britain both get oil from the North Sea, Al-Queida are certain they're working together. Hey, it's a terrorist organisation, their brains are in their guns.
As for the Eurosong...Yeah, I think T.A.T.U might win it for the Russians. "All the Things she said" was a huge hit, and so was the follow-up (I never even heard it, I was locked in my bedroom working with a mate down under to build a "Kill N*Sync game!")

Now that's good to hear. Are you a gifted speaker? The few presentations I've had to do have gone well, but I *hate* public speaking. And on the reports and coursework front, congratulations! I've either missed or done my coursework, so it all revolves around my exams now. Can't say which I prefer, two hour exams or coursework you can take home but spend about 40 hours on...
"*sniggers at e-mail* Someone writes me to write their Sue into OFUM as a teacher? Yeah, that'll happen..." Okay, I seriously can't help laughing at that. Can we see the e-mail? And as for evilchild; good riddance. You didn't get any grief for it, did you?

BREAK OUT THE CHAMPAGNE!!! That's the best news I've heard all week!

Date: 2003-05-25 06:02 pm (UTC)"I find that having Legolas already married off keeps away MY self-inserted characters, at least. My characters at least have the decency to keep away from married men. Of course, with Legolas having a wife like Kalariel, well, woe to her who tries to woo him, for she will face the wrath of the Killer. (I almost created another mini-Balrog, Legolass)
I have an idea: the Killer as a teacher. the class could be something like "Terrifying the Evil Dark Minions" or somesuch. The Killer has a weird sense of humor. And a fake One Ring. And a terrifying glare. I almost feel sorry for the students if they DO get her as a teacher."
*snorts*
A friend of evilchild's is insisting on e-mailing me, but that's really the only grief I've gotten that I know of.
And I do all right enough as a public speaker. No worries.
