Hotmail is screwy as hell and LJ is still e-mailing old comments (if I missed something, now you know why). Joy. And I got evil nightwork ahead of me. So, if you want to drag me out of my boredom when I come home, the meme below is a chance.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write a drabble with the same first line as one of my stories, and leave it in my comments here. Any fandom, any pairing or gen, and you can interpret "drabble" as loosely as you want.
Fics found here. A selection of first lines below, though feel free to pick others.
1. "Somewhere – it does not really matter where – a girl was turning on her computer." - OFUM (LotR)
2. "On day one, he comes to take her away." - Fall Into Sky (CSI)
3. "She stood white among the frost in the dying dark as he came upon her, a trail of morning mist swirling above her head almost like a crown." - Winter Frost (LotR)
4. "The northern wind was for once crisp and cool, sweeping in over Las Vegas from distant mountains, whispering to the land as it came." - Afterthoughts and Forethoughts and the Northern Wind (CSI)
5. "‘It wasn’t supposed to end like this,’ she thinks, and kisses him." - Metamorphosis (CSI)
6. "900 years and he still doesn't get humans sometimes." - Never a Choice (Doctor Who)
7. "Time sings." - Song For Rose (Doctor Who)
8. "What he remembered afterwards was the pattern of tiny hairs on the back of her hand, almost invisible in the flat light of the lecture hall, but rising
against the touch of his skin, almost seeking him, as he shook her hand." - The Passing of Seasons (CSI)
9. "The world is less than it was." - Fading Legends (LotR)
10. "Gil Grissom nearly died on a Tuesday morning." - Shades of Dawn (CSI)
11. "Sometimes, in the sentience that is the TARDIS, she thinks about time." - Measures of Time (Doctor Who)
12. "She walks in beauty, like the night." - East of the Sun, West of the Moon (CSI)
13. "One last time, he goes to visit Lily Evans." - Kaleidoscope (Harry Potter)
14. "A fantasy." - Symbiosis (CSI)
15. " "This is such a bad idea." " - Passing By (Doctor Who)
Snow has finally settled down and it's freezing outside. It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, it is. Coupled with me spending a long time yesterday hunting down old-fashioned Norwegian Christmas cards. If you're not getting a gift from me this year, you shall at least get a card (provided you left your address somewhere for me to find).
In the news:
Plea launched to halt the execution of ex-gang leader Stanley "Tookie" Williams.
The case sparks death row debate
Maori head-butts tourist
Red Cross not allowed access to all prisoners in American custody
Porn laws relaxed in Norway
Hum. Now what I wanna know is, who nominated the guy for the Nobel Peace Prize? (You have to be a member of the Norwegian parliament to officially nominated someone for it.) And the death penalty never fails to get me worked up. Not a fan of it, me. Most Norwegians aren't - we haven't had it for a long time. I don't think we're likely to get it again, especially with a Minister of Justice who has a Tigger-doll in his office. (Too cute!)
Meanwhile, tomorrow is Human Rights Day. Mark it. It's also the hand-out of the Nobel Peace Prize here in Norway.
Right. Food, then evil night of work.

Date: 2005-12-09 06:24 pm (UTC)I shall try to write a drabble tomorrow. It'll probably be smutty, because I'm depraved and all, but you know that. ;)
For now, I think I'll follow my muse to bed. :)

Date: 2005-12-09 06:56 pm (UTC)Gah. At 2.30, I'll be working. Making lots of money, granted, but still, pain in the ass.
Naughty dreams (of smut-fic)!

Date: 2005-12-10 06:31 am (UTC)This will probably not work due to bunches of people hammering at me for transport to the useless bloody Christmas Pagaent, but let us see.
And it's become a ficlet rather than a drabble. Interesting...

Meh. I'm no fan of the death penalty myself, although I'm sure the Bloods would like to see the co-founder of the Crips get toasted...

FICLET!
Date: 2005-12-09 07:19 pm (UTC)She didn't expect this sadness or resignation. But then, everything that's happened to her since he grabbed her hand and dragged her through the storage levels of Henrick's has been, in some way, completely unexpected.
Rose pulls away, watching the shock and confusion in her Doctor's eyes coalesce. Turn to horror as he finally works out just what is going on.
She just smiles and tilts her head, an odd expression on her face, before pushing him as hard as she can.
Opening the TARDIS a second time is both easier and harder than the first. And her last thought before everything that is her becomes gold and bright and no longer just her is that now she never will leave him.
It's easier to ignore his screaming that way.
Re: FICLET!
Date: 2005-12-11 01:54 pm (UTC)But loved it, in its sad way. Sniff.
Drabble - as requested.
Date: 2005-12-09 08:03 pm (UTC)Less glorious, less impressive, less imbued with something other. War is over, evil is overthrown at last after so many, many millennia and yet… with it gone something else is also lost.
Time moves more quickly now… Or is it more slowly?
Life is more ordinary. The world no longer needs its wonders. The fairytales, which all too briefly arose from the mists this one last time, will fade once more and never return.
It is over.
Their time is over and they are leaving.
The ship, heavy burdened, has sailed, and those left behind will soon follow or else wander, mourning that which will never come back to them. They can hear the voices in the earth growing fainter, ever more distant.
Even the rocks forget.
The Enemy gone, the minor players in his theatre dwindle also; their demise mirroring the withdrawal of all but men from the field of play. It is the men who will play now in a playground suddenly grown huge. Too huge, perhaps, too much, too devoid of the wisdom and light that others brought, and thus so much less for that.
Yes, the world is less than it was now the Eldar have sailed West.

Date: 2005-12-11 07:27 pm (UTC)I always though the end of LOTR was so sad, but even more so after I had read The Sil - the future holds nothing compared to the glories of the past. JRRT felt the same way, I think - it's why there was only ever the tiniest fragment of Fourth Age stuff and nothing more. :(

Date: 2005-12-11 02:04 pm (UTC)Yay, I wrote a drabble! **M rated** Nine/Rose.
Date: 2005-12-10 04:08 pm (UTC)"This is such a bad idea."
“Then why are you still—mmm…kissing me?”
“Can’t…mmphm! Stop. Rose?”
“Yes, Doctor?”
“You do realise this is all due to the dustcloud from those mushrooms you stepped on? They’re an extremely potent aphrodesiac.”
“Don’t care.”
“And Jack could walk in at any moment.”
“Don’t care! Kiss me again.”
“Mmmphm. Mmm. Aah!”
“Ooh, so you do have one of those?”
“Obviously. Ah, Rose, I think we should stop. Now.”
“Do you want me to stop?”
“Ngftt!”
“I’ll take that as a no, Doctor.”
“Aah! Cheeky wench. On your own head, then.”
“That’s a weird way to—Mmmphm!”
“Shush, Rose. How’d you get this thing undone, anyway?”
“What, nine hundred years of time and space, and you don’t know how to undo a bra?”
“They’re fiddly! Silliest design in the universe, and I’ve seen a few.”
“Not as many as Jack, I’ll bet. Ooh!”
“I said shush, Rose.”
“Mmm? Don’t forget the other one. Oh!”
“I did learn a few things in those nine hundred years, Rose.”
“Aah… I think you might have to demonstrate. But I think these have to go, first.”
“Ow! Watch the zip!”
“Oops, sorry. How was I to know you had nothing on underneath? Here, let me kiss it better.”
“Rose? Aaaahmmphm! Rose? If you don’t… stop! …”
“Save some for later, you think?”
“…”
“Ooh! Doctor, that hurt. There’s a pipe poking into my back!”
“Better?”
“Mmm, yes. Do that some more.”
“Hmm. This, you mean?”
“Yeah, that. Keep doing that.”
“I’ve got a better idea.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Ohhh.”
“Mmmmm.”
“Finally shut you up.”
“Ooh… You promised… demonstration?”
“Your wish… is my… command…”
“I command… more.”
“More?”
“More!”
“…”
“Ohh… yes… there…”
“Mmmphm…”
“…”
“…”
“Mmmm!”
“Ohhhh, Rose. Rose? Rose, you all right?”
“Fantastic.”
“Told you I was impressive.”
“Not very modest though.”
“…”
“…”
“Doctor?”
“Mmm?”
“We’ve got to make sure Jack doesn’t find those mushrooms.”
I wanted to see if I could write smut using only dialogue, and not have it be ridiculous. Not sure if I succeeded, what do you think?

Ok, brain's gone blank now and not sure those are any good, but they may spark something off in your brain that is of use to you. :)
Drabble (100 words exactly), LOTR, AU scenario, G or PG
Date: 2005-12-10 08:20 pm (UTC)She walks in beauty, like the night. Its brightness and its darkness mingle in her countenance, in the radiance of her face and the abyss that are her eyes. And like the night, she brings the awe of both dream and nightmare.
Her works are glorious, and her fair forest blossoms, flower and leaf ever unfolding. But no longer is the land without stain; its colours – the white and golden, green and blue of spring eternal – are now garish, its people – the warriors of the wood – full of rampant bloodlust.
The White Lady of Lórien has become the Dark Queen.
BTW, were you perhaps reading Byron's poetry when you wrote that beginning of the CSI fic the first line of which I took?
Re: Drabble (100 words exactly), LOTR, AU scenario, G or PG
Date: 2005-12-11 02:08 pm (UTC)Yes. The first line is Grissom quoting the very poem, and it also gets twisted a bit to "She walks in beauty, like death" at the end. So it was deliberate, yeah.

Date: 2005-12-11 10:15 pm (UTC)And yay for Byron's lyrical poems! There's a very nice contemporary musical setting for She Walks in Beauty, but for some reason, it's rather hard to get a recording of the poem as a song.
