A young girl I know from ff.net named a duck after me, and now Miss Cam the duck has found a mate and has had ducklings. Heh. Apparently Miss Cam the duck is also vicious at times, and likes to bite. Snerk.

And look, an OFUM bit!

“Yeah,” Kat muttered, eyeing Elrond warily. It was never a good day for students when Elrond was too happy. Nor was it a good day for students when Elrond was unhappy. Actually, it tended not to be a good day for students if Elrond was about, period.

Gandalf stepped up, carrying scrolls with him. He too, looked amused. “For this years study period, you have been divided into several groups and taken to a special study camp. Or as we like to call it, Camp M.U.H.A.H.A – Middle-earth University’s Horrific Adventure Hellhole Advancement.”

“And this camp will be as a small village of Middle-earth,” Elrond explained, and some students let out a relieved breath. That was not a good sign, either. It was never better than they feared, it was always worse. Looking relieved in front of the staff was like waving a red flag with the words ‘come on, you can’t hit me’ at a bull with a perfect aim and sharpened horns. You didn’t do it unless you wanted pain.

“Yes. A *real* village,” Miss Cam broke in. “That means no shower, no toothpaste, no heated houses, no food you don’t make yourself and no entertainment you don’t supply yourself. It does mean plenty of mud, hard work and general misery. It will be very educational.”

Draft of course, but at least I managed to write a bit. Go me.

Been musing on my life a bit, where I've gone and where I'm going. Not quite sure where I'm headed as of yet, but we'll see. I'm still young, I have time to figure things out. No point rushing into a life I find out later I'd rather not have.

And they still have found no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, eh? Interesting. Very interesting. Too early to say for sure yet, but if they find nothing within a year... Hmmm-hmmm. Interesting story on Baghdad now

I do wonder what I will think of the Iraq war looking back on it a decade from now and what history will say. A lot depends on what Iraq becomes, of course. Whatever it will be, I hope it will be something the Iraqis will be happy with, not just what the West want. Iraqis have suffered enough. They deserve to get their own way and not be turned into a Western outpost in the Middle East. If they want to be an Islamic state, how can the West woith a clear conscience deny them? Freedom means to make your own choices, even if they are what others think are wrong. I must say, the US statements on Iraq being an Islamic state being out of the question makes me wary (and the US and British control of Iraq's oil revenue makes me more wary still). If the Iraqi people want it, and the US denies them it, they haven't brought freedom to Iraq at all.

And I really, really wonder what will happen with the Kurds. Already, there has been signs that are not too promising - Kurds mistreating Arabs. All too often you see an oppressed people being freed from oppression - only to become oppressive themselves.

Not the best testimony to humankind, is it?

One of the things that annoys me most is listening to some twit wish for the return of the "good old days" in any way, shape or form. I still get irritated when I think of this one author of a book on Tolkien's work (male, I might add), who said that if he ever had the chance, he'd go to Middle-earth like a shot.

Him and that twit from "Politically Incorrect" who wished for a return to barbarian days when people weren't so sensitive.

It's said that when the gods want to punish you, they start by answering your prayers. So, what better way to punish fangirls? Oh, and btw -- make sure they also know there's no indoor toilet more sophisticated than a chamberpot, and no makeup or perfume either. >;-)

All too often you see an oppressed people being freed from oppression - only to become oppressive themselves.

And there you have why I've resigned from the human race.

Right. . .

Peter S. Beagle, I think.

I love "The Last Unicorn" but geez, what a dip as far as that's concerned. What I'd do is give Mr. Beagle a camera, pay him to take some pictures, and have him give them to me if he manages to get back a alive. I sure as hell wouldn't pay him up front, that's for sure.

Sigh. Nope.
