Nice article on 'New Earth' (Beware spoilers!)
Still the new Doctor, who Piper describes as "more emotional, with good hips" gets to do plenty of stunts in the new series.
Bwhah! "More emtional, with good hips" indeed. That so needs to be on an icon.
Meanwhile, I'm lusting over Doctor Who merchandice. I so want a wee little Ten. And a Nine and a Rose and a Dalek t-shirt and more Daleks and the new books and a TARDIS and and and why aren't I filthy, filthy rich? The world's so unfair.
I am a sad little fangirl.
Also, CSI fandom? STOP BEING A WANKY THING OF WANK. It's a sad thing when I almost hope my 'ships or any other come to pass because the gloating and wailing would drive me to minor whinging. Let's try for some love before I utterly give my fangirl heart to BBC, eh?
And your ship names are still largly idiotic, and sending me e-mails with phrases such as "for the love of all things Grillows" aren't helping matters. Okay? Those maritime phrases you think are all clever are getting a bit tiresome, FYI. And could we maybe retire Dido's "White Flag" from 'ship use by now?
Maybe I should start a movement against horrid 'shipnames, ho hum.
So, for a meme: What's the 'ship name you really hate and why? (Alternatively, what's a 'ship name you hope never ever come to pass in your fandom(s) and why?)

Date: 2006-04-03 10:28 am (UTC)All of the Who merchandise is taunting me. I even found out recently that there is a DW shop about 15 minutes away from where I live ;__; I want to gooo....but I would spend all my non-existent money on all the stuff. I'm going to London next week, and clearly won't be able to resist going to Forbidden Planet and buying a little Ten of my own. Alas.

Date: 2006-04-03 10:33 am (UTC)Gah. There are no DW shops here at all, so online shops taunt me, the fiends. If I ever go to London again though, I'd so be like you and get me a wee Ten, who could get to play with the Legolas

Why do I hate it? Because it's stupid and cheesey and bears no relation to the names of the characters.
Also, McShep/McBeck/McAnything. I asked for slash, not fast food!
So I would totally join you in a movement against horrid 'ship names, since most of the ones in my fandom do my nut in.

Date: 2006-04-03 11:02 am (UTC)But nothing beats the batshit names of the Harry Potter fandom. (Except Doctor Who, since it killed Snarry)
And I so know the feeling about the merchandise! Minotaur near me is pretty good for most stuff, even if importing stuff takes a while (I woefully have neither a sonic screwdriver, or a Dalek from them. But that is more to do with me keeping my money for the incoming Ten figures and books than anything else - I'll get them, eventually)
However, I do have a Dalek t-shirt. And an old series logo t-shirt (Fifth or Sixth Doctor, I believe)

DW merchandise. Do you know how hard that is for me to come by? I mean I live in the bloody capital od Australia, but cannot find anthing remotely relationg to DW, except for a few 3 months behind magazines, and the occasional dalek object in the back of some dusty old comic book shop. All the good stuff's in Sydney and Melbourne. When I eventually get to the UK, I am going to go on a shopping spree, and buy up every DW thing I can find.
I found one of those BBQ apron things at Federation Square a while ago though. It had a dalek on it with EXTERMINATE! written below. I'll have to get a picture next time I go shopping there.

Date: 2006-04-03 11:25 am (UTC)To answer your meme; I am a GSR shipper, however, I kinda hope that the ship doesn't actually happen. I'm a big fan of UST and I worry about a show like CSI that has never been hugely character based, dying because having a ship come to pass shifts the dynamic. I love wishing they were together, knowing that they belong together, all of that... but yeah.
If they do have to do it, I hope that it's subtle, (not that huge HUGE leap that they were planning in those spoilers for Gum Drops.) You know, like a raised eyebrow, a weighted, double edged remark... something like that.
But that's just me.
no subject
Date: 2006-04-03 11:37 am (UTC)I'm impressed. Putting the show before the ship - not a lot do that, even if television history is littered with examples of how bad things can turn when a pairing is realised. Though there are cases of it going well, too. All depends on the writing.
So - decidedly not alone.

Although Firefly can be a little odd. River + Jayne = Rayne, which makes me barf a little. I think the Simon/River kids calling their ship CSI (Crazy Space Incest) is absolutely genius, however.

Gestalt names were something we did in high school to mock people who were always crawling down one another's throats and might as well both be named at once, because they were completely symbiotic (or parasitic). Thus Courtney and Randy became Crandy, professing their true love as publically as possible (and as soon as they graduated, Randy got another girl pregnant and Courtney ran off to work her way through college as a stripper).

I wonder if BBC's American online shop sells over-seas? It was the only place I could find reasonably priced Daleks.
