Nice article on 'New Earth' (Beware spoilers!)

Still the new Doctor, who Piper describes as "more emotional, with good hips" gets to do plenty of stunts in the new series.

Bwhah! "More emtional, with good hips" indeed. That so needs to be on an icon.

Meanwhile, I'm lusting over Doctor Who merchandice. I so want a wee little Ten. And a Nine and a Rose and a Dalek t-shirt and more Daleks and the new books and a TARDIS and and and why aren't I filthy, filthy rich? The world's so unfair.

I am a sad little fangirl.

Also, CSI fandom? STOP BEING A WANKY THING OF WANK. It's a sad thing when I almost hope my 'ships or any other come to pass because the gloating and wailing would drive me to minor whinging. Let's try for some love before I utterly give my fangirl heart to BBC, eh?

And your ship names are still largly idiotic, and sending me e-mails with phrases such as "for the love of all things Grillows" aren't helping matters. Okay? Those maritime phrases you think are all clever are getting a bit tiresome, FYI. And could we maybe retire Dido's "White Flag" from 'ship use by now?

Maybe I should start a movement against horrid 'shipnames, ho hum.

So, for a meme: What's the 'ship name you really hate and why? (Alternatively, what's a 'ship name you hope never ever come to pass in your fandom(s) and why?)

Why does White Flag get used in every fandom ever....?

All of the Who merchandise is taunting me. I even found out recently that there is a DW shop about 15 minutes away from where I live ;__; I want to gooo....but I would spend all my non-existent money on all the stuff. I'm going to London next week, and clearly won't be able to resist going to Forbidden Planet and buying a little Ten of my own. Alas.

Because people are sheep? Bææææ.

Gah. There are no DW shops here at all, so online shops taunt me, the fiends. If I ever go to London again though, I'd so be like you and get me a wee Ten, who could get to play with the Legolas [livejournal.com profile] lotus79 gave me years ago.

What's the 'ship name you really hate and why?
Sparky (being the pairing of Elizabeth Weir and John Sheppard in Stargate Atlantis).
Why do I hate it? Because it's stupid and cheesey and bears no relation to the names of the characters.

Also, McShep/McBeck/McAnything. I asked for slash, not fast food!

So I would totally join you in a movement against horrid 'ship names, since most of the ones in my fandom do my nut in.

The day someone starts using ship names in Doctor Who, I plan on going on a mad killing spree. I am sure you can appreciate why.

But nothing beats the batshit names of the Harry Potter fandom. (Except Doctor Who, since it killed Snarry)

And I so know the feeling about the merchandise! Minotaur near me is pretty good for most stuff, even if importing stuff takes a while (I woefully have neither a sonic screwdriver, or a Dalek from them. But that is more to do with me keeping my money for the incoming Ten figures and books than anything else - I'll get them, eventually)

However, I do have a Dalek t-shirt. And an old series logo t-shirt (Fifth or Sixth Doctor, I believe)

Ah, the ship names. I went through a silly patch regarding those a while ago.
*headdesk*

DW merchandise. Do you know how hard that is for me to come by? I mean I live in the bloody capital od Australia, but cannot find anthing remotely relationg to DW, except for a few 3 months behind magazines, and the occasional dalek object in the back of some dusty old comic book shop. All the good stuff's in Sydney and Melbourne. When I eventually get to the UK, I am going to go on a shopping spree, and buy up every DW thing I can find.

I found one of those BBQ apron things at Federation Square a while ago though. It had a dalek on it with EXTERMINATE! written below. I'll have to get a picture next time I go shopping there.

DW shopping spree. Another good reason to visit the United Kingdom, your home of crack.

It's kind of funny that this post was the first in my flist when I had just logged onto LJ wanting to post one line about how wanky fandom wank is shitting me BIG time lately. I'm glad someone else said it though because at least I know I'm not alone.

To answer your meme; I am a GSR shipper, however, I kinda hope that the ship doesn't actually happen. I'm a big fan of UST and I worry about a show like CSI that has never been hugely character based, dying because having a ship come to pass shifts the dynamic. I love wishing they were together, knowing that they belong together, all of that... but yeah.

If they do have to do it, I hope that it's subtle, (not that huge HUGE leap that they were planning in those spoilers for Gum Drops.) You know, like a raised eyebrow, a weighted, double edged remark... something like that.

But that's just me.

Date: 2006-04-03 11:37 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Oh, you're so not the only one. I guess I just feel more free to say it now that my involvement in that fandom tends to be a few fics and a lot of eyerolling. Not as much invested, you know?

I'm impressed. Putting the show before the ship - not a lot do that, even if television history is littered with examples of how bad things can turn when a pairing is realised. Though there are cases of it going well, too. All depends on the writing.

So - decidedly not alone.

MWAHHAHAHAHAAA! You cannot stop the wankiness that is CSI for it is part and parcel of the fandom. Just mock from the safe redoubt of Livejournal.

But I think you can blame Buffy fandom for shipper names *ahemSpuffyahem* but over there it quickly became an exercise in self mockery to see who could create the stupidest one; Spawn being a lot of people's favorite.

Snack is the dumbest ship name, because it's not immediately clear who the pairing is about. If you didn't know better (as at least one poster I saw recently didn't) you'd think that it was a thread involving foodsex, not a pairing between SNape and blACK.

Also, the name of the Remus/Tonks ship, Wotcher Wolvie, irritates me, because it's misspelled. I mean, shouldn't it be WOLFIE? That V really bugs me.

Shipper names - who needs grammar? Or something like that.

I could do with a snack right about now.

For itself or because you predicted what it would be used for and it filled you with disdain?

Yo!Bling.

Don't get me wrong, I love Catherine & Warrick but the name just makes me cringe.

I don't like 'Jam' [Jack/Samantha] or 'Smarties' [Martin/Samantha] from Without a Trace either.

Me too, actually. I know others love it, but I prefer to just call it C/W or CWR.

Cutsie names should die.

The CSI fandom is rife with pairing name idiocy. I blame babydoll.

Most of my other fandoms tend to avoid such issues as I watch more adult-oriented programming. (Except for Veronica Mars. They have some dumbass pairing names. But... teens, therefore...) And we're all old, and too embarrassed to call Josh and Donna "Dosh".

Although Firefly can be a little odd. River + Jayne = Rayne, which makes me barf a little. I think the Simon/River kids calling their ship CSI (Crazy Space Incest) is absolutely genius, however.

Ah, babydoll. What would we do without babydoll and her awesome batshit skills?

Doesn't VM have LoVe? I want to hit that name with a trout.

All I can say is THANK GOD there is no easy way to get DW merch in the states. The $$$$ I spent on Jossverse stuff is boggling.

::plays with AF's and reads comics::

And for the record...whoever came up with the concept of alternative covers for comics? GENIUS. That way they can suck the very lifeblood from completist freaks such as myself.

Bad names- Grillow, Gofia, Hillbilly love (isn't that what our friend calls Nick/Catherine?) Jam and Smarties (Without a Trace) Fresly (Fred/Wes, Angel) Spuffy (Spike/Buffy)

Names I don't want to see- Grick (Greg/Nick) Dose or Rocter (Doctor/Rose) Galy (Garret/Lily, Crossing Jordan) Giffy (Giles/Buffy)

Oy, so agree with with you about Fresley. I only used it in the "interests" list for [livejournal.com profile] wfsurvivors since other people use it. I much prefer just using the character initials.

And ohhhh, I pray that we never see a cutesy nickname for Doctor/Rose. I've seen some scary suggestions already...

What's the 'ship name you really hate and why?

All of them. Every single one.

Gestalt names were something we did in high school to mock people who were always crawling down one another's throats and might as well both be named at once, because they were completely symbiotic (or parasitic). Thus Courtney and Randy became Crandy, professing their true love as publically as possible (and as soon as they graduated, Randy got another girl pregnant and Courtney ran off to work her way through college as a stripper).

I hate all 'ship names that involve the participants' names being in a trainwreck. Although some are at least amusing, like Snickers, or have some weird rythm to them, like Aurikku.

Worst one though, I think, is Cloti from FFVII. I keep switching the vowels and think of something gynecological. I think that may be where all my hate stems from...

I wonder if BBC's American online shop sells over-seas? It was the only place I could find reasonably priced Daleks.

BBC have a UK shop and a US shop, and they're driven seperately, I think, which is probably why they don't sell on the other one's market. Blah.

Cloti? Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Do people even consider these things before they come up with them?

Why do I have a sudden desire for an "egg and cress" sandwich?

What the hell is an egg and cress sandwich? Cress = Watercress? Is there mayonnaise involved? There had better be no mayonnaise.

Thanks for the link to the article. So the Doctor has "good hips", does he? (We could have told you that, Billie)

Also, this quote from Tennant:

*grin* I have a wee little Ten. His other mommy and I agreed that Ten should have the screwdriver, because Nine will primarily be watching over her in exams, and Ten has to deal with accident-prone moi.
