Is it weird that I was touched by this story about the gay ducks? Basically, they've been a pair for over three years, and they come to Malmø, Sweden every summer, where they frolic about and aren't interested in the females. They defend each other if needed, and their kind of duck mate for life, so they'll stick together until one dies. Aaaw.

(The article also makes a point of mentioning homosexuality occurs among other species of birds as well, and thus isn't "against nature" as some so loudly like to claim. Nature's full of it, science has documented. So shut it.)

Even made icons for them, because they are adorable.

Awww, they look... happy ;)

Know of a pair of gay penguins and a pair of gay flamingos, although those are a little more proactive and steal eggs from other nests so they can raise them as their own *g*

Naughty things!

Article actually also mentioned two male swans that took over and egg and hatched it and fed the little kid after the rest of the colony died out. Aaaw.

I heard about that on the news today. And I also read an article about gay penguins once, seems nature is full of queers.

I think the Hamburg zoo has got a couple of gay penguins. And there's a pair of lesbian swans at a Boston pond, IIRC.

May I steal the duck icons for possible future use?

Of course. The ducks are love and long to be shared.

So cute, yet we must keep in mind that even pure gay duck love can go horribly, horribly wrong (http://education.guardian.co.uk/higher/research/story/0,9865,1432991,00.html).

I saw them on a documentary on Trio~a guy did a "In Search of Gay Animals", in order to prove that homosexuality does, in fact, occur in nature, and therefore cannot be "against nature".

There were also some monkeys, dogs, and swans.

Cute!
I heard about a group of gay flamingoes a couple of years ago, though it wasn't true love so much as a crazy orgy. So possibly not relevant.

A grand encyclopedia to all the various wild and woolly homosexuality (and less savory sexual practices) among mammals, birds and reptiles can be found in Bruce Bagemihl's wondrous Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity. I'm just sayin'. ;-)

There are also a population of gay rams, just to add another sort of animal.

I think it's cute.

Amusingly, this doesn't stop my religious friends from claiming that it's all in the name of dominance of the group. Myself? *waves a huge "Yay for gay duckies" banner*

There are gay everythings. There was a metaquotes thread on this once--see, that's the benefit of bookmarking everything interesting. XD
