New Earth (Doctor Who 2.01, revived series)

Spoilers for New Earth, obviously. Duh.

Random observations:

- Oh, Mickey.
- Aww, cuteness overload. Only saved by the actors doing it all likable. "New, new Doctor" is still love.
- Ten does seem to enjoy himself more, doesn't he?
- Wet!Tennant is the win.
- Rose has learned the ways of violence, hasn't she? Picking up that steel pipe, heh.
- Gollum!
- Face of Boe, you tease. WTF was that, aside from setting up series three stuff?
- Hah, the snog that wasn't. I still like it. And Ten's reaction was fab - seemed to figure out it wasn't quite Rose around there, though, if maybe a little later when she was being all knowledgable. Cassandra sure fancies the Doctor. Even if she was threatening him with evil diseases.
- "I'm staying very, very calm" - angry!Doctor, do me.
- Hum, wonder if that Doctor-God reference will come into play in the "Satan Pit" episode
- That tie sure is handy. Tie!porn should be a feature in every episode.
- It's disturbing how hot I find Ten trapped in that green pod thing.
- Ehehehehe. Cassandra-as-the-Doctor, I like you. But only in carefully monitored doses, I think. Also, Ten keep pushing to get Rose back, very hot. We likes that.
- Going down the elevator shaft for the kinky win!
- Plot is the pants. Spread the cure, wtf? But Tennant gets wet again. And is love as happy.
- "Hello!" I love the recurring of that. (Also seen in the Unquiet Dead and the CiN special.)
- Do they remember what their bodies did out of their control? Ep seems to suggest it.
- Now Cassandra wants to die. That was sudden. And then she dies in her own arms and Rose seems to have stopped to style her hair. Okay then. We'll go with that... Or not. RTD, for the love of Doctor Who, get someone to poke at your plots!
- Werewolf promo!

Commentary comments:
- David Tennant should always speak in his Scottish accent. Also claims to know what he's doing when he's fiddling with his console. I bet you've decided what every button does, you fanboy.
- RTD sure likes his work. And likes Tennant.
- "I do not moan! Do I?"
- Billie Piper's boyfriend broke the face of Boe. Snort.
- RTD seems to suggest Ten will be more action!Doctor. Will be a bit of change from Nine. Iiiinteresting.
- Tennant is a fanboy. We likes it. Also has delightful laugh.
- Up and down and up again for series two, then?
- Originally, they were all gonna die. Hum. Iiiiiinteresting.
- David's noticing Billie's wonderbra. Attentive fellow.

Everyone's saying that. Is it weird that I heard "golem" and not "Gollum"? It appears I am the only one. Or have possibly been playing too much BG.

Though I agree since Rose said it she's unlikely to know the definition of "golem" even if it is a better fit for the situation.

I decided that I liked Nine as he was so quirky and great and lovely and made a much mroe itneresting doctor. But then I watched Tennant. *swoons* Don't care if he's not as quirky coz he's so hot (and that's an understatement!).

Oh, I so agree about the plot! Cassandra's 180 right at the end made no sense whatsoever. And the plague-carriers' cure was also pretty unconvincing. As someone said on T&C, intravenous drugs suddenly being used as a disinfectant wash? No way. And the Doctor as god? Shudder, somewhat.

But still. Lots of cuteness. Lots of 'aww' moments, including 'new new Doctor' and 'our first date'. AngryDoctor is still very impressive, particularly to the nurse and to Cassandra: 'Give her back to me!' Loved the 'Yup, still got it' moment. But, of course, that kiss will never be referred to again, just like other things from the last season seem destined never to be referred to again.

Okay, is it next Saturday yet?

Doctor Who has always had outrageous plots, but it goes a wee bit far sometimes.

But as you said - lots of cuteness, and that for me made up for everything else. And the kiss could possibly end up in teh same closet as the dancing. We'll see.

Plot? There was a plot? I was too busy laughing my head off. There were some nice funy moments in there. And Rose looked adorable when she stepped into the TARDIS at the beginning, all enthusiastic and packed and things.

Gay!Ten was just fabulous and I love Cassandra!Rose. The plot was kind of weak, but the episode was extraordinarily fun anyway. The disinfectant shower scene was priceless. Action-hero!Ten is all kinds of thrilling, and alkdfjf;dfg I cannot seem to coherently express my thoughts about this episode.

I'm listening to the commentary right now and... why does David know all this stuff? He knows all these little bits that no-one else does. I think he just goes about and grabs gossip between scenes.

I liked this a lot more than The Christmas Invasion, which I thought was rather rubbishy. This doctor overruns with the glee and happiness a lot, which is nice, though a wee bit wearing, but as this is really his first run with his barely used body, so it's understandable. Also what has he been doing with his bits over Christmas so that they got used at all?

you know, I haven't seen this episode yet but judging on the caps, I cannot share your appreciation of wet!Tennant. When he is wet his hair sticks to his head and 9/10's of my Tennant love is basedon the floppiness of his hair.

Saw it last night (the repeat - missed the Saturday one) and I have to agree with the randomness of Cassandra wanting to die all of a sudden, and I was not at all sure about the 'spread the cure' bit. At least in the Ecclestone WWII 2-parter when he did funky stuff and cured them it was a tad more conflicted and momentous. Perhaps the 'god' comment had briefly gone to Ten's head, I dunno.

It was one of those episodes where I felt the constraints of the 45 mins episode length. Not quite the fantabulous start to the new series I had hoped for, really. I did enjoy it, just... it just felt a bit flabby, somehow.
