Nine versus Ten. Who else is sick of it?

People, you've had Ten for one and a half comatose episode. Not be making the rash judgements yet, on level of shippiness or awesomeness, yes?

I do wonder how much people are judging their reactions to the shippiness based on their personal preference, I do. Ponder, ponder. And am I too? I like Nine. I like the angst. I like Christopher Eccleston. I like Ten. I like energy. I like David Tennant. I certainly write fics for both. Though even before I saw Ten, I did have a bit of a theory to Nine needing Rose a bit too much. Romantic, perhaps, but that doesn't always make it healthy. Love isn't a guarantee of happiness, or even compatability. Romeo and Juliet might be romantic, but it's also destructive. Not that I'm saying Nine and Rose would emo!suicide over each other, but you know, love doesn't turn it into a Disney movie.

Ten, we don't quite know yet (though I'm sure there will be Issues there too). But let's not forget the main bloody point here, which is forever and ever - it's THE SAME GUY. This is the Doctor, in all his glorious ten incarnations. When Nine snogged Rose, it was One doing it too, and Thirteen will one day remember it fondly. Regeneration changes how he does things, how he looks and how big his naughty bits are, but the Doctor he remains. What Nine and Rose had will influence what Ten and Rose had. The starting block is not the same at all, so why is it being treated like a race instead of a relay?

I think I had a point. Where did it go? Oh yes. Do not make rash judgements. Do not judge Rose's reactions based on your reactions and preferences. Do not bash. Bashing makes Cam sad. Go for the OT3, baby.

Oh yes. Nine is somewhat clingy, and rather fucked up by the Time War, and kinda scary in his possessiveness towards Rose sometimes. I don't necessarily find this a turn-off, since I don't believe in the fairytale idea of love. It's an interesting aspect that I like to explore now and then inbetween the smut.

Just annoys me when it becomes way, way overfluffied and romanticised.

Thank you for posting this. It's been bugging me seeing all these over-long comparisons. Hell, I miss Nine and yeah, if I had to pick one I'm more attached to; it'd be Nine 'cause I just haven't seen enough of Ten yet.

But I won't write him off based just on his dynamic with Rose in all of one episode. I reserve judgement because what I have seen of Ten as a new, developed Doctor has been pretty good so far.

Sensible approach. I mean, I adored Nine too, I came into the fandom based on the strength of his episodes. And I've tried to stay on the fence about Ten for as long as I could, because I do know that if you decide right off the bat that Nine was better, and Nine/Rose was unbeatable, that will influence you in how you see the new stuff. That's how the human mind works.

It is somewhat depressing that the whole 'doctor x is better than doctor y because I like him' thing has just moved on to the shipping. It is very annoying as one's opinion on doctors is always somewhat irrational. I have a mad (but pure!) love for Six, less so for Seven, but what that is really based on I couldn't tell you. (However, it probably says disturbing things about my love for primary colours).

They're all fun in their own way to someone. I even met an Adric fan the other day. Though everyone knows One was rubbish.

Oh, finally, something sensible on the Nine v Ten shipper war! I read about five posts and then shut the thread down. They're the same guy!!! Yes, I miss Nine. Yes, I like Ten. Yes, I want to see more Ten-Rose interaction before I make up my mind about the character dynamic - and the more time I have to mull over New Earth the more frustrated I'm getting with RTD and his love of the frickin' reset button. But it's way too soon to draw any conclusions about Ten and Rose or Ten v Nine.

Just as it's way too soon for all these post-NE fics, IMO. T&C is full of them today, and they're starting to drive me just a little crazy. ;) There are one or two good and thought-provoking ones amid the pile (including one I BRed today), but most of them are lightweight and add little or nothing to the ep, beyond wishful-thinking snogging. The more I think about it, the more value I see in waiting until we've seen more episodes before rushing into post-ep fic. But just MHO...

I must confess, I don't get why it's such a big deal. I mean, I loved CE, and would really have liked to have seen more from him, but having only seen TCI so far, I'm sure DT is going to be wonderful. (Pardon my comma overload)

It's tempting to put it down to the trauma of losing your first doctor, but over on rec.arts.drwho someone is still spewing vitriol over CE allegedly deciding that Who was beneath and walking away without so much as a backwards glance (never let facts get in the way of a good rant), while someone else is still convinced that Sylvester McCoy personally killed Doctor Who.

Hopefully, a few episodes everyone will come to love DT as well, and do like Rose - mourn the old and embrace the new.

I, erm....acquired 2x01 yesterday but haven't watched it yet. Having actually read the wank in question and given the matter some thought -- and, dear gods, I haven't even SEEN Ten in action yet! -- Nine seems to be a lot more intense, must-get-my-living-done-quick, very survivor!mode. Ten... seems to be more playful, feeling the whole not-dead-yet joy. Now, I don't know how Gallifreyan brain chemistry works, but perhaps Nine had a touch of PTSD? New brain = different chemistry = slightly altered personality/new outlook. Heck, that would explain the differences between all of the Doctors, not just these two.

I mean, I know what it's like to suddenly rediscover that you've got years and years in which to be happy and childlike about the world. I cannot imagine what would happen if the universe were my playground.

Nine wasn't my first doctor, but he quickly managed to supplant Four as my doctor. I kind of like Ten so far, but he just isn't to my taste (neither the actor nor the character).

However, I can't be bothered to expend energy on a ship war (if such a thing is possible when the people we're fighting over are the same person), if only because I don't think Rose is worth it. ;)

This is a great rant, and one that makes me glad I'm not deep in Who fandom. I love me some Nine, and some Nine/Rose and some Nine/Jack. But, dude, Ten is fantastic. I love them both. And require more fic which involves time travelling so Ten and Nine can get it on with each other, and Rose, if she wants. And maybe Jack.
