Blah, blah

Am staying up all night, as I have filming on really, really early in the morning and is no way in hell I will actually manage to get up at that hour. So, I'm staying up. I shall be done at noon, to then snooze off. Got weekend off, then editing on Monday and Tuesday. Some kind of peace rally on Sunday - will go if I have the time. It's very important now that things are done right in Iraq. I wish I had trust that the US would be able to do it, but alas, like most Norwegians I'm not optimistic. We will see, I guess. Even before the war started, there was talk of the US winning the war - but losing the peace. Iraq is complicated, divided, poor, starving... And this year, the US administration 'forgot' to budget extra (promised) money to Afghanistan (the Congress had to remind them). Hmmm. We will see. I cannot agree with the decisions made to get to this point, but I do hope all will go well.

That said, I heard some pro-war people chatting about how now the troops were going home, war was won, all was over. Um, no. It's now it really starts. Was is easy. Peace is a bitch, especially in this region. And this will not solve the problem of the Middle-earth. Iraq was never the problem as such. Too isolated. Israel and Palestine is the real issue, and an issue in which the US is terribly biased. And Bush thinks he can get peace there? We will see, I suppose. I will believe it when I see it.

And such is the advantage of being rather pessimistic. Every now and then you'll pleasently surprised. Norwegians have a dark streak, a sort of 'gloom', but on the other hand, we're never really down. My dad used to tell this story about a fisherman in Northern Norway, who one day got caught in a storm. His boat sinks, and he crawls ashore, livelyhood lost and future looking grimmed. Looking down at his hands, he notices he still has his mittens on and remarks

'At least I kept the mittens.'

Bit of the spirit of Northern Norway, really. And mittens are important, or your hands will freeze. So there.

Word is, Bush's handlers are already talking about Syria and Iran next. So it isn't over.

And this will not solve the problem of the Middle-earth.

Typo of the month. :)

And yes, I agree about Iraq. Yesterday on American TV that footage of the Saddam statue being pulled over got shown every ten minutes or so, it seemed. Very tiresome - great symbolic gesture, but it's ONLY symbolic, and sometimes I think too many people can't tell the difference. I'm not optimistic either. That business with Bush "forgetting" funding for Afghanistan while trying to ram through yet another tax cut for the American rich was very instructive - of course Afghanistan is still a mess, because now that the extremely short attention span has moved on, operations there are thoroughly half-assed. It's a disaster, and I'm afraid Iraq will be too. Praying for the UN to step in, but then again, the Bush League is still harboring extremely childish grudges against the French and Germans. It would be pathetic if the consequences weren't so dire.

This whole situation is ridiculous. America wants the oil. Why can't we just come out and say it? "Hello, we're invading, setting up a puppet government to make it look good, and taking everything we want. Yep." I'm still waiting to see all those weapons of mass destruction (If they have them, America we sold them to them.) Gah. I don't hate my country and all of the stupid people in it, but I do hate the politicians. Stupid gits.

If Iraq is in such dire straits and we 'liberate' them, then why don't we liberate the Congo? They're just as bad. (Oh, wait; they've got nothing of value to us, so who cares?)

Sorry for all the sarcasm. I spend the day at work arguing with Rush Limbaugh, who is quite possibly evil offspring of Sauron.

Idea: Instead of a Dark Lord having a Mary Sue for a daughter, he's got Rush for a son... heh. What a fanfic that would be.

Read the newest chapter of OFUM... it rocks!!!!

"Once I was crying because I had no shoes. Then I saw a man who had no feet."

-America we sold them to them-

Sorry. Missed that.

Also, I was not arguing with Rush Limbaugh in perosn. I feel it is important to state that I was ranting at a transistor radio and its owner.

Realistic seems like a more apt description. Those people who think the war is over are just being naive. We haven't seen nothing yet.
