Aaaaaaaaaaargh
Apr. 15th, 2003 09:10 pmEver had one of those subjects where the teacher is so disorganised you just want to strangle him/her? Well, I am. We have a television assignment due tomorrow, right? Fine, fine, I had all my shots on Friday and edited it on Monday. Then the [insert nasty word here] man announces we must have a title page (on the tape) and a voicer. The day before it's due. Thank you ever so much. Not to mention that the story itself counts 5% - 5%! (We also has to hand in all these gitty scripts and review of reading texts. Gah and gah) Imagine wasting a good 10 hours on something that counts 5%. I spend less time on this that count 3 times as much, mini-git. And I do have other subjects, you know. *grumbles*
Also, was silly enough to tell History and Globalisation lecturer about the Iraq Minister Fansite, and know he's gonna 'test' us on the content. Hmmmhmmm.
In more interesting news, I had a long and enlightning chat with one of the muslims who work at a mosque here in Brisbane (the one who was torched after September 11th). He's a PhD student. Very, very nice man. We discussed among other things why some Christians have such a resentment aimed at Islam, and the hijacking of religions by terrorists. Make no mistake about them - they're hijacking it. Islam and terrorism is not synonyms, though you wouldn't think so by watching media reports. Ideals and practices of a religion are often miles apart. I have no problems with the ideals of Christianity, for instance, however I have a great deal of problems with *some* practices of it. Same goes for Islam. I've begun to see that the West truly is ignorant about Islam - me included (I've always rather know that, but until recently I've had very, very little contact with muslims). I've started my long quest to end that. I think I might take a trip to the mosque, and maybe see if I can track down the Quran and the Sunnah (the Sunnah, for those who doesn't know, is the narrative of Muhammad, who the muslims consider the last prophet.). What's interesting about Islam, is that it recognises both the texts of Judaism and Christianity. Abraham and Jesus are considered prophets same as Muhammad - only he was later, hence 'updates' the teachings of God. (Allah means the God, literally). A muslim is in fact *required* to believe in all the prophets, including Jesus, Jacob, Abraham, Isak... The Quran also warns against prosecution of non-muslims and says there's no compulsion in religion. Interesting...
But before I can do interesting research, I must write lame stuff on the grammar of television news. Woe is me.
P.S In other news, now have over 450 enrolments for OFUM. Jeez. If I get to 500, I'll have to close it. And people are already talking over year three. Um, that's not at all decided, people.

Date: 2003-04-26 08:49 am (UTC)I want to learn more about Islam. So many people are so ignorant about what it stands for, what its beliefs are, and I don't want to be part of that group. I know that when my father was curious about Mormonism, he went and read their bible; I should try to find a copy of the Quran.
