Finally, finally, I have managed to sleep and get some time off. Thank you, life!
And it figures that after being absent pretty much a week, the first thing I get pointed to nearly the moment I come online is the
dw_hate comm - and later,
crimetv_hate (I guess this is what happens when I get dubbed "resident wankthropologist" by the likes of
velocityofsound. Now there's an awesome title I should get on an icon. Still, quite the "welcome back, Cam" there). Ah, fandom. You're so different and so the same everywhere, aren't you? In fact, I vaguely recall some time back hate memes sweeping through HP and LotR fandom, and now it seems to be sweeping across LJ again. Yay? Boo? Don't care?
Fandom is so very human in all its petty ways sometimes, innit? Which you either can laugh at, ignore, or go insane over. I seem to manage to combine all three approaches at times. I am amused at the claim that
nostalgia_lj and myself are really just one person, though. Hee. Team Puppy, me and nos.
[Poll #743507]
Meanwhile, I like the idea of
shippingsane a lot a lot. Jooooooin. Well, if you know where your sanity is at, anyway.
Plans for today:
- Watch "The Impossible Planet"
- Catch up on missed wank
- Catch up on missed e-mails
- Chat to
lotus79 until she's sick of me
- Catch up with friends
- Scribble down fic ideas had while being extremely busy, including a GSR one
- Get worked up over rapefic
- Eat bagels
- Ponder fic-a-thon joinings and writings
- Sleep more
- Watch more Hartnell episodes
- Prepare for the awesomeness of coming World Cup and hot footballing males
Also, huh?

Join, preciouss! You don't even have to commit to writing anything. And one of my prompts has already been claimed, whee!
Prepare for the awesomeness of coming World Cup and hot footballing males
When's that start again? I must make an effort to watch now we are in it.

Date: 2006-06-07 01:55 pm (UTC)A neighbour 'spliced into her phone line', somehow tracked her down onto the PPC board, posted rude messages about her as 'anon', and all because they have an issue with her sexuality, apparently. But have no fear, they were identified, caught, arrested AND charged within hours of it all happening.
And some people suspected her of lying because UJ mentioned that she thought it might have been the badfic author, but it wasn't.
Well, no, it was because the IP addresses were the same - i.e. the same computer was used.

Date: 2006-06-07 01:07 pm (UTC)I voted "kind of funny" only because after seeing these things tossed around for years, it's inevitable that they devolve into something funny and heartening with lots of love tossed back and forth. However, the fandom newbies who haven't experience teh h8 before tend to get trampled by it and I feel sorry for them.

Date: 2006-06-07 01:30 pm (UTC)How these memes turn out seem to vary a bit, though. The DW one seem to be more bitching than the scifi one, for one thing.
I am sure someone will create a love meme or love place to balance out the meanness soon enough. Fandom often works that way.

Our hate meme got deleted. It's sort of sad.

Date: 2006-06-07 03:51 pm (UTC)The Impossible Planet is a wonderful, wonderful episode (okay, this is not exactly news), and at least you won't have to wait as long for the cliffhanger resolution if you watch it today. I'm still speculating about the second part, damnit. :)

Date: 2006-06-07 05:42 pm (UTC)It's only possible to click one on your poll, but I think hate memes are both counter-productive and kind of funny/interesting, in a fandom_wank, trainwreck sort of way. You feel bad, but you can't help gawking.

Date: 2006-06-07 11:15 pm (UTC)Sometimes I love that fandom. *tear*
But yes, hate memes as actual hate memes? Not my cup of tea; using anonymouse status as an excuse to be deliberately hurtful is not fun. That said, I guess that sometimes it might be useful to hash out problems - but things blow up so quickly that I doubt even that would work.
