Impressive spamming, flist. Thank you :)

BBC confirms a rumoured spoiler (Majorly spoils an uncoming, though perhaps not unexpected, casting devolpment. You've been warned.)

Hum. (There'll probably be spoilers in the comments, so don't read if you don't want to know, okay?

So, that's bye-bye Rose, then. I've been rather expecting it, really, even if somewhat reluctantly. I like Rose. I know some people on my flist don't, but tastes do vary. Though season two haven't been doing her favours. I sorta hope they don't kill her, though. It'll very easily overshadow what follows and the new companion. Depends how they do it, of course. Be interesting to see who becomes the new companion eventually, and how they make him or her interact with Ten.

Changes, changes. This is what happens when you love Doctor Who. Might as well get used to it.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] velocityofsound, for !lo, I am a thief.

Ask Me My Fandom Opinion

How this works:
1. Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific (Would you really shag One? Did you like the portrayal of Gimli in the LotR movies? If Ecklie had to shag a current CSI member, who would it be?), general (What show is your guilty pleasure? What cancelled show would you bring back?), or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Be as evil if you want, for I can always cough up a rant.
2. ONE DAMN QUESTION.
3. That's it. It doesn't have to be something that will trigger a rant, really.

I read them aloud good Catherine/Warrick and Grissom/Sara porn, and make them watch the actors act it out.

This is not designed to trigger rant, but my apologies if it does since I don't know if this is a 'sore point' for you or not. However, I would be interested in knowing your opinion on how well (or not) you think PJ dealt with the mammoth task of putting LOTR to screen. Not so much in terms of the costume and design, which I think most would agree were stunning, but in terms of the script, the inevitable changes and cuts that had to be made to bring the story to coherently shorter form. So: how well did he do that and could it have been done much better or differently?

Hum. Well, film and book are two such different mediums I don't think a purist version would've worked to well. As movies, I think what they did was pretty damn good. Particulary movie one. Movie two was the weakest of them to me - very cluttered, and what was added just annoyed me more when considering what was taken out. My biggest gripe is probably what they did storywise with Faramir and Denethor. And I was not fond of the way they chose to amp up Arwen's storyline, though I understand why.

But mostly, I think it was a good job within the frames of what a movie is.

Discussion of spoilers: BE WARNED (to anyone reading)

I am confused by this since the BBC confirmed not long ago she'd signed up for season three - it was released in the same press statement saying Tennant was staying on for the next season too. Ho hum. *wanders off pondering deeply*

I remember reading that somewhere as well. Maybe this is all some cunning way of tricking us into believing that Rose really will die in a cliffhanger at the end of the season? I wouldn't put it past Russell and the BBC to be sneaky that way.

In any fandom you are or have been so far, what is your most favourite ship and/or slash pairing and which is the pairing you disliked most? Why?

Date: 2006-06-15 10:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
I still think Legolas and Gimli *from the books* is my favourite pairing, friendship-wise or more. Most disliked... Hum. Tricky. Dan/Emma, the actors playing Harry and Hermione, probably. I'm not a great fan of shipping underage actors, no. (Both of them were quite underaged when I first saw that pairing pop up.)

omg... they said Jack would be returning in series three, but I never thought... Dear god, the angst potential. Jack loved Rose, and now the Doctor loses her (probably via death) and picks him up? That can't go well.

Question: Cap'n Jack: Harkness or Sparrow, and why?

Date: 2006-06-15 02:09 pm (UTC)

I did a Fuck, Chuck, and Marry among my friends (do you know that game?)

among Jack Skellington, Captain Jack Harkness, and Captain Jack Sparrow.

Everybody chucked Sparrow on hygienic grounds.

Hmmm, today's Sun also claims that Rose will die. Well, it's The Sun, so that's probably utter shit, but I hope that the paper isn't right, just for a change.

Even despite all her annoying moments and immaturity, I like Rose, and thus I, too, don't want her to get killed. Every season finale apparently sets out to break my heart a little -- loss of my first Doctor (and of Captain Jack), then loss of my first companion. Hmmm, now I also wonder when exactly Jack will be back on the TARDIS...

Meme question: What is most annoying about Doctor Who fandom (not the show)?

Date: 2006-06-15 09:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Recycling wanks.

I wouldn't completely trust the Sun, but I am guessing Rose will be in very great danger at least. Might even leave it unclear if she lives. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Not trying to be purposefully contrary or anything, but isn't that all too obvious?

We get so much heavy foreshadowing in TSP, then we get spoilers in The Sun, and thus it wouldn't be the least bit unexpected and surprising anymore.

Well, guess we'll find out in less than a month.

Meme question: What do you think is Rose's likely fate? (i.e. dead, leaves the Doctor of her own free will, is unwillingly abandoned, ends up with the Torchwood crowd, shags a Dalek and the video ends up on the internet etc...)

Date: 2006-06-15 09:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Oh, I don't know. My theory is that she either appears to be dead (but might not really be) or comes so close to dying the Doctor leaves her with Jackie to fulfill the promise he keeps ranting about.

I'm... surprised by the spoiler. Sure, I knew Rose would be leaving soon - and I'm one who will be very sorry to see her go. But I thought, first, that the foreshadowing from Satan Pit was just too damn obvious and that it had to be misleading. Second, although there's been rumours and mystery surrounding the finale, it was said that BP had signed for 'some' episodes next season, which suggested to me that she'd leave part-way through.

It also seems a little risky to end the season with the departure of a very popular companion, unless we're already to have met the new companion by then. Sure, if Jack comes back pretty soon after - and my guess was always the Christmas episode - that might soften the blow for many viewers, but it's not exactly going to make for a very happy Christmas episode, I wouldn't have thought. Unless Rose is going to be wiped out of the collective cast memory the way Jack was... and given RTD's love for the character, that would be odd.

Oh, well. I can't say I didn't expect bad news sooner or later. Though I'm still remembering RTD's statement last year some time that he would not kill Rose off, and wondering how that fits in...

From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
The way I heard it, there might be talk of guest-starring, but how reliable that is, I have no idea. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I guess one thinking might be that people will watch the Christmas special to see how the new companion is.

May ifs. We'll probably get a few answers when they start shooting the third series. Stuff will leak.

Captain Jack: Do you think he's going to be able to carry that new series?

Date: 2006-06-15 09:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Dunno. He was charismatic in the eps he had, but he didn't get to do that much different, so hard to say anything about range and ability to carry it on its own. I think the show will need to have a bit more than just him to offer, really. But if it has that, I think he'll do fine.

One question: When you were 19, would you have dropped everything and gone with the Doctor when the concepts of Doctor, TARDIS etc were foreign to you?

Date: 2006-06-16 11:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Hard to say. It's possible. I was fairly impulsive and had a desire for adventure when I was 19, but I am also fairly attached to my home, so hard to say. It would probably depend on in which manner I first met him and how enamoured I would get with the idea before I had time to think it through a lot.

From: [identity profile] canadian-kazz.livejournal.com
I should be sad about Rose, but for some reason I'm not. Maybe it hasn't sunk in yet. Tonight when I'm watching DW it will, and then I'll probably cry. 9 would have regenerated for nothing if 10 can't keep her safe.

I was going to ask the same question os furius, or one very similar to it anyways. Damn. Okay, so new question: If you could rewrite one episode of the new series of DW, which one would it be and what would you change?

Date: 2006-06-16 11:40 am (UTC)

That answer - soon to come to a fanfic near you. In my mind, it started early season six, and was a slow gradual change into shagging.
