Strap yourself in children, it's a bumpy ride.
As I ranted about in a previous post, I've come across a group of people who seem to believe Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan are gay, and in a relationship but the Evil!PR!Suits cover it up and force them to pretend to be straight. Okay. The 'fans' of this, if you will, apparently used to post at the Data Lounge, but for various reasons now have a place of their own (they're known as Data Lounge Refugees - DLR) where they post their truths. They call this Canon.
Gaaaaah.
It gets scarier. Apparently, the mum of this board thinks that Dominic and Elijah actually *post* on Data Lounge. And they come up with colours that the actors will wear at certain appearances, and then when they do, call it a shout-out to the 'true fans'.
Gaaaaah to infity.
They also, for various reasons, bash Sean A. and apparently also Sir Ian. Why? Beats me. Also, they think Orlando and Viggo are also gay. The evil, evil PR people keep them in the closet. I want these PR people, damnit. If they can do all this, they are so the people to help me take over the world.
Some DLR people also write RPS fic. Behold, an excert! (From a fic called The Wedding, by Becs. I claim no ownership and am quoting for reviewing purposes only)
Sean watched Dominic and Elijah from the other side of the room as they circulated, and tried not to feel isolated and uncomfortable. It wasn't working. He had made small talk to friends and, while nobody was being actively unfriendly or hostile, he could sense an underlying unease in their interactions with him. He wanted to protest that he wasn't the man they supposed, but he knew deep down that he probably was and the thought made him miserable. He loved Elijah. And Dominic? Dom wasn't that bad really, an ok guy if you ignored the over-confidence and immaturity. It wasn't even that he disapproved of their relationship, or any gay relationship per se. But the key here, (and why couldn't they understand it?), was that he needed to be seen to disapprove of them. After all, he had a burgeoning political career to think about. He couldn't be seen to be allying himself with a couple who had basically told the US government to shove their policies up their arses, even if they were good friends of his. Jesus fuck, why couldn't they understand that he didn't really frown on them (although the marriage thing was a bit pathetic and one flouncy, dramatic gesture too many in his opinion, after all they'd probably get divorced in a couple of years anyway. Well, maybe three). His thoughts were interrupted by Ian who had quietly made his way to Sean's side and stood next to him, staring at Dominic and Elijah.
And more!
"Mr Astin," the young female reporter with a microphone in her hand began speaking to him. "I'm Becs, from the Hamilton News. In light of your recent comments, we were wondering why have you attended this gay wedding today?"
Sean smiled, and tried to look cool and in control. "It was a last minute decision, I had planned on making a trip to New Zealand in any case, so I thought I would just show my face briefly."
"Does this now mean that you support gay weddings Mr Astin? I know that you and Elijah Wood were very close during your time filming here. Did you know he was gay when you first met him."
"I think that is irrelevant, don't you? Elijah has been my friend for a long time now. And he asked me to attend. So that is why I came."
"I understand that you had a big falling out with the rest of the cast when you denounced their relationship last year when they came out."
"Look this has all been covered before. I'm here for Elijah, that's all."
Becs looked at her partner, camera in hand, ready for the ultimate front-page photograph.
"You stood up and denounced gay relationships, when two of your closest friends are gay. Why was that?"
"Ok, I've said enough now. I'm here for Elijah. Not because he's gay, not because he is getting married. I'm here because he is my friend."
"So, you still stand by your original statement that 'gay weddings are irrelevant, and serve no purpose, except to mock the civil society that we live in'." The reporter quoted the very words that Sean had said last year, and he was fucking pissed at that. He had felt like shit when he had said those words, but he had to stand by them. He had no choice. Fucking hell. He just wanted to get out of there right now.
"Yeah, I stand by those words," he began, lying through his teeth. "They both stood up there today, like a husband and wife. But they're not, they're two men, two fucking men acting like it was the most normal thing in the world, when it isn't, and it never will be, and I will never condone such an act." And I fucking hate myself for saying this.
Sweet All-Father of Valhall...
They think they have a special connection to Dominic and Elijah. They think they know the 'truth'. They call their ideas 'Canon'. I'd be screaming 'LIBEL! LIBEEEEL!' at the top of my lungs (especially if I were Sean, poor guy) if this had happened to me. I mean.... Good grief. There's obsession and there's stalking. Even if both Dominic and Elijah were gay, the whole thing about the Evil!PR!Suits just boggles my mind. But what is most disturbing is the sincerity and self-importance of these so-called fans. Conceited much? Delusional much? And they call everyone who disagrees homophobes, which makes me even more peeved. Actually thinking Mr. Wood and Mr. Monaghan both having enough of a spine to admit to a serious relationship (if they had one) instead of lying is not being a homophobe, damnit.
These people boggle my mind beyond belief.

P.S If any faults in the explanation of this... weirdness occured, please blame it on my poor, widdle, shellshocked brain. Thank you.

Date: 2003-07-13 12:13 am (UTC)From the mouth of an RPS writer....
Date: 2003-07-13 12:07 am (UTC)And considering I'll be going to college to major in and become a professor of Fan Fiction (yes, you read right, that's what I'm doing; think OFUM, unrestricted to a single fandom) I'll have considerable clout when I back the actors up against these poor, deluded saps as a witness in the lawsuits. ::grins evilly:: Wanna help?

Date: 2003-07-13 08:55 am (UTC)I said this yesterday, but I'd say it again - I hope no legal action does occur. That would only give them more fuel to blame PR and the "homophobes" for shutting them down, not to mention - they'll actually get *widespread attention* which is what they thrive on. They love being victims and victimized, and I'd hate to see them get the satisfaction of being able to cry foul and claim to be oppressed by the evil evil PR.
Holy smeg
Date: 2003-07-13 11:36 pm (UTC)It's freaking me out, yet facinating me deeply. Must... read... more...
Thank you for the links. I read, boggled and read again.

Date: 2003-08-06 09:55 pm (UTC)friggin' hilarious
Date: 2003-07-13 01:14 pm (UTC)How do the "evil PR people make them stay in the closet" true believers explain away Sir Ian, who couldn't be kept in the closet by an army of Balrogs on the other side of the door?
Re: friggin' hilarious
Date: 2003-07-13 11:39 pm (UTC)Or something.
Tinhat logic *hurts*.
I'd call them delusional but...
Date: 2003-07-13 04:56 pm (UTC)I have no doubt that those of the LOTR cast who are net-savvy are probably aware of this group - or if they aren't, they probably will become so. My own take on the whole situation is that the minute the two actors in question have finished laughing like drains over the whole situation, they'll start playing up to it *outrageously*. Heck, the lot of 'em already play at pushing the conventions of allowable masculine affectionate behaviour in public anyway. I have no doubt they'll all just roar with laughter and ignore it.
Posting a lawsuit against this lot would just increase their sense of persecution. Actually, doing *anything* other than just laughing at the silly blaggards would increase their sense of persecution, thus justifying their delusion even more in their own twisted and warped little minds.
This doesn't stop me from wanting to thump them repeatedly over the head with a dictionary.
*grin*

Re: I'd call them delusional but...
Date: 2003-09-13 02:41 pm (UTC)Where and how do they come up with these? It's kind of disturbing really. What evidence do they have exactly.
To me, this is a trainwreck. I want to look away, I just can't. I'm going to watch what they post and laugh. Laugh really, really hard.

Ack! Argh!
Date: 2003-07-14 02:13 am (UTC)SIR IAN MCKELLEN IS ADMITTED GAY!!!
Why'd they stop Dom and Lijah from 'coming out of the closet' if Sir Ian was *hired* as a known gay sexual? It makes little sense to me...
Poor Lijah... Poor Dom... they don't deserve this...
What do those chicks base their theories on anyway? I hope for their sake that it's not just Evil!PR!Suits...
anyone care to help those chicks get a life?

Date: 2003-07-15 04:44 pm (UTC)It's a CONSPIRACY!
Date: 2003-07-20 09:07 am (UTC)You don't believe me? Well, know this and Fear: Even now, as we speak, the Evil PR People, along with brainwashed Sean Astin, are plotting to overthrow Peter Jackson and produce their OWN version of Lord of the Rings! RUN INN TERROR AND FEAR!
*chuckles*
Crazy conspiracy theories are a new one. But then again, should I not be surprised?

Date: 2003-08-04 01:07 am (UTC)I am so glad I found your LJ!
I thought I was the ONLY ONE who was so sick and disgusted about the whole DomLijah thing! I didn't even know what tinhats were...and I'm still not totally sure...but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the infamous Ms.A and her followers.
I don't know what's been happenening at DL because I avoid it like the plague. A few visits were enough to chase me away for good.
I have felt SOO bad for Elijah and all the guys who gave us something so wonderful in LOTR. That this tight little bunch chose them, of all people, as their target for innuendo and outright slander and cyber-stalking has really made me almost physically ill. I hope that Elijah and Dom and Sean sue them for everything they have. But being the nice guys they are they probably won't.
I know for a fact that Elijah's manager knows about DL and BEI.
So I hope that eventually some serious action is taken against the stalkers before these innocent sweet young guys are really hurt. Do you know what just scared me to death?! MsA was RIGHT NEXT TO THEM!!!! at ComicCon taking video and pics of them!!!! Did they know it was her?! I AM SICK!!!!
Meanwhile hundreds of fans have suffered because of this whole thing.
I don't have a LJ yet but if I do I will be At Last!
