What is this thing called normality?

Is it normal to get out of bed at 1 a.m., write down two lines of fic you're afraid you'd forget to otherwise, go back to bed, get up half an hour later and write another two lines and attempt bed again?

... Maybe not.

(The lines being "This time I'm sure I got it right," the Doctor says, as he did last time. & "Being a god is overrated," she tells him bitterly. "You grow up thinking having god-powers, that'll be great. It'll let you to whatever you want, you think, but it doesn't. Not really. It lets you do whatever has to be done, and that's horrifying." & "They can manipulate you more easily than me. No offense." & "Jack told me I needed to learn. Maybe I have.")

So what's the weirdest thing you've gotten out of bed to do when you should be sleeping?

I get out of bed to write all the time. Sometimes it's lines of dialogue... sometimes it's an idea for a scene. It's all rather bothersome when you're trying to sleep.

I totally do that. Tis not weird at all. I try to go to bed, a line I think is just brilliant comes to me and I have to write it down. Because my memory sucks and I'm so likely to lose it if I sleep on it.

What's really difficult is that I have horrific handwriting and in the near-dark, it's pretty much just black scribbles.

Oh yeah, it's fun transcribing that to my computer.

I also bounce off tons of ideas in the shower. I really need to invest in water crayons or something. I've stepped out of a shower midday, dripping wet just to scribble down a line.

Same. Sometimes I convince myself that I'll remember it in the morning, and go back to sleep. Then, hours later the next day, I remember that I was supposed to remember something. But can't remember.

It usually never comes to me, and I am haunted forevermore by guilt for being too lazy to get up and write down what was probably a brilliant fragment of poetry.

... I woke up once, around 5am, and wrote out the entire outline of a movie script. In the morning, excited, I reread through it, to find that in my half-asleep stupor, half the lines were written over each other, and mostly illegible. Fortunately, I remembered most of it and later wrote it into a novel, but, man. Ahahaha.

I do that on a regular basis. But I go out of my way to avoid acting like a normal person.

Hell if I know. But I do that all the time. And recently I've started taking a block pad to bed with me because as soon as I get into bed whole paragraphs of story flow into my brain. It's very frustrating. ;)

I woke up, well at least I think I woke up around 3 one morning, and I wrote out thirteen things we needed to get for groceries the next morning in French. Twas weeyard indeed.

I think that that is actually perfectly normal. I've done that a few times, but not for fic. I actually wrote an entire narrative monologue at three AM when I was barely lucid enough to distinguish my cat from a rice-cooker. But yet I could find my book and a pencil (albeit it was blue).

The lines seem worth it.

But the weirdest thing was to put the clothes in the washing machine in the dryer. I went back up to bed, then went downstairs and put a dryer sheet in.

And (I've not had to get out of bed because my mobile is right in the bed with me) to say a few lines of dialogue or sing something into my phone for a voice-memo.

Back in my days of writing Daria fanfic, I'd often keep a pad of paper and a marker (no pen or pencil) near the bed, and then wake up half-asleep to write down an idea or dialogue or something of the sort.

Of course, the one time I did it, I wrote down my idea on an entire page...which already had an idea on it written in the opposite direction. I manged to make everything look like an illegible scribble, and could not for the life of me figure out what it was I had been thinking.

I rarely wake up to write, but I did do that once. I was writing a musical and I couldn't sleep because I kept getting ideas for lyrics to songs, and I'd have to turn on the light to write them down.

See, getting up in the middle of the night to write is hard for me, because I wear glasses and I can't see to write without them, so it just entails that extra step, you know? I can't just turn on the light (my room's quite dark and I couldn't write without a light even sans glasses), grab the pen and paper, and write-- I have to turn on the light, put on my glasses, grab the pen and paper, and write. So much effort! =P

I have, however, gotten out of bed to put the shirt I wanted to wash the next day was into the laundry hamper, only to find I'd already done so. I've also gotten out of bed to take tomorrow's lunch out of the freezer, and to go get another pillow. But nothing really interesting. =P

I do that quite a bit, actually. But sometimes it's ideas for big projects, and sometimes song lyrics, and sometimes things I need to do in the morning that I will most definitely forget otherwise... But mostly I'm just online when I should be sleeping.
