*waves to newbies on flist* Hello. Feel free to poke about whenever you feel like here. I shan't bite, though my cat might.

Oi. The plagiarism in HP fandom goes on...

Good grief. And some of this only seems to be touching the surface of it. As if HP fandom needed more shit. But it does make me wonder - if a BNF sets a certain practice, do others follow? Because this does seem to have spread at least a little. Do the various fandoms need to start having revived birds-and-bees talks at certain ages? ("There comes a time in a bird's life when it may feel like stealing someone else's feathers...")

Drose????

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Kill the mushed ship names. Kill them with fire.

[livejournal.com profile] lotus79 if this catches on I am leaving the fandom dramatically and vociferously
[livejournal.com profile] misscam so am I. We can try and top each other with drama and woe in our leaving posts
[livejournal.com profile] lotus79 race you to f_w, heh
[livejournal.com profile] misscam I'll beat you. Bigger flist, more wank :P
[livejournal.com profile] lotus79 I will whine louder that you are a BNF and it isn't fair
[livejournal.com profile] misscam welcome to fandom, baby. It's as light on the fairness as it is logic

[livejournal.com profile] misscam I wonder if mushed ship names is wank bait for fandoms. I mean, look at CSI and HP... Ripe with it, and ripe with wank

Take a look at the horror of mushed ship names run free for yourself - a list of ship names from CSI fandom

Fandom seems a bit tense of late, anyhoo. Maybe we need some silliness. Or a relaxing chair. Speaking of Doctor Who fandom, I'm feeling the urge to co-write a DW fic, I am. Any of you lot be keen on such a thing at some point?

They're so all over CSI fandom that mocking them is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. Course, that never stops me.

Tenth Doctor, preferrably. Other than that, I'm just in the mood to try something a bit different and a co-writing tends to bring that since you're getting ideas from a brain other than your own as well, you know?

Oh god, it was too early in the morning for that. Drose is awful and the CSI names.... gah. And yeah, fandom is tense. Maybe it needs to get laid. Then, omg, the co-mingling of fandoms could generate MORE mushed names.

House and Pokemon could hook up and be HOP or House of Poke.
CSI could hook up with Dog the Bounty Hunter and be CUD or C. You Dog.
Desperate Housewives and Lost? Desperately Lost, baby. The big DeLo ship.

*snort* And this is exactly why I shouldn't post sleep deprived. Ah well, hopefully fandom won't euthanize me quite yet. Have a fic to finish first.

'Drose' sounds like a wonderful combination of 'dull' and 'prose', which takes the whole 'Drose fic' thing to a completely new level.

The fandom does feel a bit like it's going downhill faster than a bus on black ice right now, everyone should just ship Doctor/Handcuffs instead. Cause that's where the marmalade is at, baby.

But even the NewWho wank cant seem to compete with NewsWank, even the BBC is going loopy over airports.

Oh, compared to some of the fandoms I've been in, DW gas it relatively mild. Not that it makes it less annoying or anything.

The events of late does seem to have sparked a lot of (understandable) paranoia and media feeding frenzy. It'll die down. New stuff will replace it. How it always is.

I've caught up with the whole Cassie/Heidi/Ebony wank on bad_penny and I'm just lost for words that a lawyer (Heidi) and an English teacher (Ebony) would both blantantly plagiarize, then deny it and try to act like it's not a big deal.

It's always annoyed me that I don't get much recognition for my fics but at least I know that when I do get reviews, they are reviewing for something that is 100% mine and not something that's mostly a mish-mash of stolen words. I like knowing that when people praise me for my dialouge (someone the other day reviewed a LOST fic of mine and within their review, quoted a whole exchage that I'd written, saying how much they loved it), it really is of my own creation and not dozens of Black Adder quotes or whatever.

Does make one wonder what they were thinking in that circle, I have to say. Perhaps they got used to it being a norm between them and didn't think it wrong. Thus when called on it, they get very defensive.

Who knows...

How they feel about their reviews, I don't know, but even if it's not your own work that gets praise, it is you who get the attention, so maybe that's part of it.

Gah, CSI ship names have to be some of the worst, (although GA has one called 'Bang' which is reasonably worrying).

And I thought YoBling was bad enough, but 'Sacklie'? 'Sodges'? 'SMACked'? Who comes up with them? And why do they feel the need to share them with the rest of us?

I have to say the threesome ones amused me ever so slightly, 'boys on the sidle' and 'the bugman and his butterflys'... I mean wtf?

Date: 2006-08-12 01:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Because pain should be inflicted on the innocentshared? Or they actually feel proud of them?

SMACked me think of drugs and bare bottoms, but maybe that's what the ship is about, for all I know.

There's a bit of a shipwar going on over which ship has a right to the "Butterfly" symbol, actually. Sigh.

So which GA ship is "Bang"?

Drose is too close to the word dross. Besides, all you save is a / and a R, so why? Besides, it doesn't specify which Doctor. That means I will be filled with false hope when people label fics with it, thinking that someone had finally written Three/Rose, only to find that no! It's Nine/Rose again! Woe! Or something.

I still think Harry Potter wins, what with their complex pairing coding system. I know it's provided me hours of entertainment.

Also, what about the even more crazy S.S. Hogwarts ships. Egs- S.S. Snitch and Bitch (Draco/Pansy), Drillers and Fillers (Hermione's parents), Ship to End All Ship Wars (Ron/Hermione/Harry/Ginny/Draco). I shudder at three quarters of these.
