Fanfic recs and other fandom stuff

That was an interesting day. Quite. Not in a bad way, just... Interesting. And then I decided to relax by watching The Parent Trap. Why, I'm not quite sure. My taste goes odd places sometimes. Course, now I'm exhausted and I'm supposed to donate blood tomorrow. Mmm, needles.
Funny the things we do to feel better about ourselves sometimes. Little good deeds - but they do make the world much more pleasant. (Now whay doesn't fandom have Little Good Deeds days to make up for when we're wanking all over each other, hmmm?)
And today's rec for Goodfic Appreciation Week, in honour of the "Drose" debacle - One/Rose. In all seriousness. And it works.

If there is one thing that she’s learned, it’s that time isn’t linear. Now doesn’t matter. Because then could come back. Can never be. Can change. Nobody writes the future. It’s always been there. She is dead. Alive. Gone and back home in time for…
…how she wishes for shepherd’s pie. Piping hot. Her mother’s high-pitched voice in the background, drowning out the telly.
My other rec today is an older CSI fic that manages to give a nod to many ships without being a ship fic and man, could the fandom need the art of toning it down from it.

She has watched his shoulders slumped in grief, and then she has watched them roll and square again in a slow evolution of growing confidence. The first time she saw him do that, she realized why it was Warrick, more so than any of the rest of them, that was Grissom's heir apparent.
Elsewhere on the web:
The Doctor Who spin-off that is never to be, apparently (spoilers for the end of season two).
David Tennant talks about his underwear, fandom pays attention
Stargate: SG-1 is cancelled - will there be wank?
Airline security makes for wank too
Now I am going to bed. Honest.

Date: 2006-08-22 04:09 am (UTC)And also, I'm sure Ben Browder and Claudia Black will get a lot of the blame from the fandom, since their arrivals were so heavily touted.
Although the irony of the show that got blamed for "Farscape"'s cancellation being cancelled itself is...well, ironic. Sorry, I'm tired and headachy and not at my most witty.
There's already two or three petitions for SG-1's renewal circling LJ, and I'm sure if the Gaters mobilize like the Scapers did, the lamenting and demanding will be heard 'cross hill and dale.
Ah well. I'm off to read about David Tennant's underwear....thanks for the link!

Date: 2006-08-22 04:39 pm (UTC)And look at all the gnashing of teeth and beating of chests Farscape got (though most of it was deserved, admittedly).
Imagine what's gonna go down with this one...
