There is hate for shippers and hate for Rose fans and hate for Romana fans and hate for a lot of fic and a lot of people. I'm apparently kammgirl (wft? That one was new) and also I hate nostalgia_lj (oooookay) and there are theories who I might be passive aggressively calling out for being passive aggressive. Elsewhere, someone claims to have shagged two DW writers. Impressive indeed. There is whining about the lack of gen fic. A Rose/Doctor shipper challenges the concept of Doctor/Martha. Some go against the flow and are not anon at all. There is porn. Vaguely. Also, thedorkygirl turns me on by being all STFU.

Oh yes, and there's "Take me Time Lord" action.

Err, the anonymouse behind the comment I think you are alluding to would be me. And I'd just like to point out that I haven't expressed any desire to eradicate anyone from the human gene pool (or even from fandom). My snark was simply born out of my personal frustration with said ficathon.

I considered signing up for it, then skimmed the requests so far and found quite a few which struck me personally as either ridiculous and/or typical of fanfic that would get written without any sort of ficathon anyway (and is thus in no need of additional promotion).

So I decided to vent a bit at dw_anon, enumerating a few requests I could dimly remember and certainly didn't want to end up writing. There was no wish to make personal insults behind that. Hell, I don't even know you. Have fun with the ficathon (and that's not meant ironically, BTW). I just happen to have a different idea of escapist fun in fanfiction.

And the next time a hatememe pops up, and I can't resist the urge to complain about something, I'll make sure I never post anonymously again. At least, then everybody will know who they felt offended by.

See, this is what leaves me completely baffled by these hate-memes. The complete absence of any live-and-let-live mentality is astonishing. So what if you don't like a particular pairing, or a particular interpretation of a particular pairing? There are plenty of outlets for different pairings, or interpretations, or for no pairings at all. That's one thing DW has over other fandoms I have experience of: such a long history with the series, so many characters, leading to many, many forums and comms and outlets for different interests. I don't care for Ten/Reinette, so I don't read the fic or go to fireplace_man; I read the occasional Doctor/Romana fic, but am not interested in the pairing enough to go to who_otp; I read Martha fic but am not really ready to 'move on' to Martha yet so haven't been to lifeonmartha for a few weeks, even though I'm a member. Do I feel threatened by the existence of ships other than my own, or different interpretation of my ship? Why the heck should I?

As for the ficathon, since when has it been necessary for fic exchange requests to be limited to 'worthy' ones? To the best of my knowledge, the two Rose ficathons currently running have one purpose: to celebrate the character of Rose Tyler. Any requests are acceptable as long as they fit within the parameters of the ficathon - a little more restrictive in the case of the gen one, but that makes it interesting. In terms of the ficathon dark_aegis and I are running, the only real rule we'll be imposing on writers, apart from the focus on Rose, is no character-bashing. Beyond that, any request and any way of answering the request is acceptable.

As with all ficathons, there are requests within the two ficathons I'm currently participating in that I'd be less keen on writing. But people are fully entitled to make the requests they've made and they don't deserve to be sneered at publicly - anonymously or otherwise - for making those requests.

As far as our ficathon is concerned, we're making every effort to take into account writers' interests in making assignments. We're not just looking at what people have stated in their signup information. If we look up a participant and find that he/she mostly writes gen or friendship with subtext, then we're not going to assign them a smut or babyfic request ;)

I've read it and it's really boring. Mostly full of people acting like supporting Rose or Doctor/Rose, and writing fic is the equivalent of murdering babies. The last hate meme, while I generally disagree with them (if you're going to publicly insult people, have the guts to do it without hiding your identity) was a bit more fun. This one's just really repetitive and dull. Even those who are wanking seem to be doing it half-heartedly.
