Low insults and CSI high wank
Sep. 17th, 2006 05:40 pmDamn
There seems to be shit going on there at several levels, including by some f_w members. However - rape as a cheat shot on people you don't like? Fucking *low*. Seriously. And I say this as someone who's had the extremely unfortuate displeasure of ending up in the statistics, with the chance of getting the guy rated at very low to none. Recognising it's a real, serious problem and a widespread crime? Good. Giving the victims of it the support and *respect* they need for getting through what is one of the most degrading things that can be done to another human being? Good. Realising no women ever ask to be raped and kicing any sort of argument of that in the arse? Very good. Giving real rapists all the contempt you can muster? Good. Using the fact that it's a widespread crime to insinuate anyone you don't like or any guy as 'having the mindset of it'? Shitty. Real shiity.
Arsehole doesn't equal rapist. In fact, from my admittedly limited experience of talking to others who've had it happen to them, the guy often doesn't behave like an asshole at all and you'd never think he was a rapist - up until he rapes. So, just because you don't like a guy or a group of guys don't mean they would rape someone. And similary, just because you like a guy doesn't mean he wouldn't. (Of course, I'm talking here of people you may not know too well yet. The better you know someone, the higher the chances of you knowing the inner workings. Even then, surprises do occur.)
So next time you're looking for an insult to really rile up someone, forgo that one, would you? It's low, it's cheap and you ain't crusading on behalf of those who have suffered it, let me tell you that.
Now, wasn't that cheerful?
In other cheerful news, Bush gets all testy
Bush said the Geneva Convention's ban was "very vague" and required clarification. "What does that mean, 'outrages upon human dignity?' That's a statement that is wide open to interpretation."
Read for yourself - article three is the one Bush is talking about. I don't find it very vague, but maybe that's just me.
Meanwhile, Sweden votes. Should be interesting to see of Sweden tosses out a leftish government just a year after Norway voted one in.
CSI wank is bloody everywhere
Now at the Jump the Shark website. Choice quotes:
Finale. Let me get this straight - for 6+ years the show runners have been beating us over the head with how ethical Grissom is and how he has told Sarah no on several occasions. Now we are supposed to believe that he has been banging her for a while now? How utterly professional of him! Couldn't they afford to hire an actress (or actor) who didn't actually work for him to play his lover? Maybe Medelsohn is trying to justify a possible skanky relationship of her own (with either her boss or someone who works for her) with this crap. I would rather they went back to making him deaf instead of being a hypocrite.
GRISSOM AND SARA DID NOT DO IT IN THE FINALE! But if we find out that they have done it, will do it, or actually did do it and they just didn't show us, then CSI has DEFINITELY jumped the shark! Nothing could be worse than having the two main characters, who have no chemistry WHATSOEVER, sleep together. Hats off to the dumbass writers who thought that one up.
To see Grissom and Sara together was horrifying. This resembled incest to me, Sara has deep issues about father figures, which is exactly what Grissom is to her. This show is doomed after so many great seasons if they continue with this storyline. Although I normally hate the dream motif, I truly hope this is just Sara's dream or Grissom's nightmare.
Final 60 seconds of the season 6 finale. When did it become acceptable for the boss to bang his employee? So help me if I see one more comment on how it is ok since they are in love my head might explode. Are the producers hoping that the viewers who do stay with the show next season will end up hating Petersen so much that they won't care when he gets killed off at the end of the season after his contract ends? Gee then those lucky few still watching can enjoy Jorja Fox doing her whole angst thing for season 8. I guess it is too much to hope that CBS will fire her again this summer, that way no one will be exposed to the Electra and Daddy show in September.
I have read that the scene was suppose to be more about two people being comfortable with each other than about sex. I truly did not see this. I asked my mother does she kneel at the bed when my father is talking. Let's just say the answer was no. I thought I should ask a couple that had been together less than my parents 40+ years. I asked three people who have been in a relationship ranging from 2 years to 17 years and the answer was the same. Two of them saw the show and while they ageed that it did not seem as if this was Gil and Sara's first time it also did not seem like they were a true couple. Shame on CSI for going that route.
hey were smart and abandoned the GSR story line in season one when the demographics said NO NO NO to the relationship, only to bow to the pressure of whiney teenboppers with no sense of what real relationships are. for the last 3 shows of the 6th season and includeing the finale, there is no way they are get out of the water. they have been stabbed, beaten, axed and shot. the sharks have already HIT the prey and stunned them. with william petersen leaving (well not being in the series MUCH next season) there is no hope for the show to continue. i think the writers will be surprised when the find the lack of viewers next year AFTER the first show. strange how the HIGHEST rated shows were LADY HEATHER and the LOWEST rated shows were SARA oreinted. that SHOULD have told the powers that be SOMETHING...guess they were blinded by the sun on the water.
I see the Guardian have a few says on it as well and a few on YTDAW are feeling a bit testy.
Brace for season seven, people.
Oh yeah, the wankshelter bar is open at all times these days. What's your posion?

Date: 2006-09-17 03:59 pm (UTC)Dear Ol' Dubya
Date: 2006-09-17 03:59 pm (UTC)After the 9/11 anniversary and the Geneva Convention "vagueness" kerfluffle" (vague, my ass, being the general sentiment of pretty much everyone with a brain), he and his commentors essentially said, "How dare you take a nation's grief and fear and turn it into a political weapon that labels every person who questions your very dangerous policies as 'aiding terrorists'?"
I wound up watching Bush's testy speech. There seems to be a lot of "I", "me", and "my" in his speeches lately. He even said something directly to the effect of "All that matters is MY point!" to one of the reporters.
Pretty ironic, since American government is by no means a "my" entity, even for the Chief Executive. Who the hell cares what YOU want, Dubya? Who cares what YOU think or what YOUR interest is? Your job is to explain to the people how your actions will impact THEM, in excruciating detail. Don't like it, resignation worked for Nixon, ya know!
I'm hearing "impeachment" and "impeachable offense" bandied about a lot more among the pundits and even mainstream news lately. It's a positively blissful thought.

Re: Dear Ol' Dubya
Date: 2006-09-17 04:10 pm (UTC)Oh yes, make no mistake, here be blood in the water, me sharkies! Not sure what his approval rating is at the moment, but when last I heard it was well below 40%. I've heard by word of mouth but no reliable source yet that it's below 30%, which is spectacularly low. Still looking for a confirmation of that, because man, would that be delicious!
The main concern we sane Americans have is that one way the Republican spin machine is still working WELL is that they're managing to smear to death any Democrat or Independent or even Less-Batshit-Republican (if there are any left) who might be a viable post-Bush candidate.
And the more desperate he and his cronies get, the greater the risk they'll stage something. I wouldn't put it past the Republican Party leaders to have Dubya murdered so his martyrdom can spur the nation back to their side--not unlike the scenario in that movie that's coming out. I think there's a real risk of something like that happening. Assassination or even attempted assassination has a way of turning the American people into sheep, even for a godawful public official.
