Blah.

Been a busy week - job interviews and job applications are such fun, aren't they? Bah.

The world has had quite a week, too. The UN bombing in Baghdad, the Hutton inquiry contiuing in Britain, bombs in India, bombs in Israel, rockets in Palestine, North Korean talks start and the Columbia report gives NASA a good kick in the bum. Iraq's a bloody mess - almost all the worst predictions have come about. Of course, there is still the chance that the US can pull it off and make Iraq a stable, democratic state, but it's looking very hard. And I think we can more or less forget the 'roadmap to peace'. I fear there will be no peace until there is no more blood to spill - or just one people left. It's like Northern Ireland, only worse. Two people, one land. And once you throw religion into it too, things tend to get very, very complicated. Funny, that. Religion can bring out good in people - but it sure can bring out the very, very bad as well.

Then again, I see things as a non-believer (unless I decide to reinvent Asatru with feminist values - Valhall for women. Hot men in black leather keeping us women happy. Think of the possibilities) and then it's easy to see the bad religion brings. Good old-fashioned insider vs outsider contrast - I had a very interesting chat with a Christian scholar about that some months back. Speaking of insider versus outsider views....

'Can American rule the world?'

Interesting article, that. It's a bit choppy, but interesting.

Oh, and about the rant I left in my last entry - didn't actually refer to anyone on my LJ friends list, for those who wondered. Least I think so.... I'm horrid at rememerbing names, so I'm also horrid at remembering who is on LJ and who is not. And not all of it was Internet-related, anyway. I'm having a minor 'wear down' again. I tend to get them every now and then. It comes with - well, caring and paying attention to what happens in the world, I guess. I was raised by two passionatly engaged and political active people, so I cannot imagine not doing it. And as a journalist, a lot of it comes with the job. But because the world can be very gloomy, now and then it wears you down. The best thing to do is to take a break and think happy thoughts and then get involved again (of course, I'm horrid at taking my own advice).

So, happy thoughts of the week:

TTT is out on DVD

The Norwegian election campaign finally gets out of 'boring' (Hee)

Bodø-Glimt is second in the football (or for you Americans, 'soccer') league

Lo! Who is that, rampaging amidst the freeway! It is Cam, hands clutching a vorpal blade! And with a spectacular howl, her voice cometh:

"In the name of Thor the Mighty, no flesh shall be spared!!!"
