Got the calender, [livejournal.com profile] adoralyna. Thank you :)

Let's play some Wank or No Wank.*

* as in Deal or No Deal, only you play with less money and more batshit.

Incest is rape! says poster, and goes on about the duty of fanfic. People agree. People disagree. Wank or No Wank?

Doctor Who fandom gets RPF and RPF speculation. People are none too impressed. Really not impressed. Wank or No Wank? (And what's with these new pink icons of potentially insulting nature? I've been noticing them for a little while now. I think I have Issues with Pink, really. Too much of that colour and I tend to want to stab sharp objects into my eyes.)

Also, RPF or no RPF?

Plans for the week:
- Finish ficathon pinch-hit.
- Finish Catherine/Grissom fic to be contrary.
- Ship the ready Christmas packages to [livejournal.com profile] adoralyna, [livejournal.com profile] saxihighlandck, [livejournal.com profile] myshka23, [livejournal.com profile] jenbachand and [livejournal.com profile] falena84, who were all good and have sent addresses already. (Yes, [livejournal.com profile] munchkin62, I got yours too, but since you wanted something from Amazon, it will wait a little while longer.) If you are on my gift exchange list, e-mail me your addy or leave a link to your Amazon giftlist already. Cards are not such a rush, but feel free to send your addy for that too.
- Donate blood.
- Decide whether or not to go see Vålerenga - Tromsø in Oslo. Last match of the season, heyho.
- Get out winter clothes, as first snow is drawing near.
- Not moan about work more than once a day.

Now to see how many I manage. I think I'll give myself a little reward for each. Mmm, motivation.

Oh a to-do list! You organised thing! Mine for the week is (1) survive work, (2) get over Surfing The Crimson Tide and (3) write my little socks off for NaNo from Wednesday, even though I'm teaching until 7pm Wednesday,am out Thursday pm and am going away Friday-Sunday = GAH!

And RPF...I've said it before and I shall say it again...NO! WRONG!!! CREEEEEEEEPY! Let the actors have lives, people!

Yep! Got it from the splendidly naughty The Rent A Jedi universe fics *many* years ago.

And thanks for the good wishes for Nano....I shall keep everyone posted, never fear ;-P

WHAMWHAMWHAMWHAMS

Fiction. Real life. Learn to cherish the difference.

If the actors are friends, that is nice for them, because it makes for a happy set.

The actors do not have to be lovers in order for the characters to be lovers. In fact, if the actors are lovers, it can lead to the Set From Hell should they break up. See: Tom Baker/Lalla Ward's 16-month marriage.

David Tennant is not The Doctor. Billie Piper is not Rose Tyler. And neither of them is shagging me, or you. Unless you are Sophia Myles or Amadu Sowe, in which case, my God, are you insane? Run away from the Internet!

I've seen Harry/Hermione shippers start shipping Dan and Emma (who plays them in the movies, as most will know) and it did kinda wig me out. It did seem a bit like if they couldn't get the characters together, they'd want the actors, and that kind of transference is a bit... Err, basically.

There is, after all, almost a zero percent possibility that Billie Piper will be sucked into another universe.

Tom'n'Lalla, god that must have been hell. There are tales of them refusing to talk and communicating only through notes passed by other people. Note also more than one episode where for no apparent reason the Doctor and Romana refuse to look at each other. The Leisure Hive commentary shows that she's still bitter, with all her bitching about him, and he's said he should have married Mary Tamm instead. And Lalla's full presence in Tom's autobiography is a photograph captioned "This is Lalla Ward. I was married to her for a while."

...I'm sure that won't happen to David and Sophia.

I used to not understand RPF at all. I avoided it, I didn't understand it, I thought it was hideously creepy. And, er, then I watched Top Gear, and before I quite knew what had hit me I was writing threesome RPS and wondering what on Earth had happened.

The thing is, with something like Top Gear, the real people are all there is. I loved the relationship between the three of them, and I desperately wanted to write about the three of them interacting because it looked like so much fun, and RPF was the only way I could do that.

And so now I can understand why people are led to write RPF: it's essentially for the same reasons people write ordinary fanfiction. They see characters and relationships that intrigue them and that they want to explore; the only difference is that these 'characters' happen to be real.

I still find real-person deathfic horrendously creepy, and I can't read heavy angst or fics that outright deal with infidelity to or by their real-life partners either. (Also, I don't entirely understand actorslash, because I always find myself wondering 'how can they know the personalities of the actors behind the characters well enough to feel that need to explore their relationships?'. I completely understand why a person would be compelled to write fiction about real people from programmes about those people as themselves, though.)

Oh, dear, I'm rambling. And this may well not be coherent in the slightest. Er, I think that my point is 'RPF WRITERS ARE NOT INSANE. WELL, NOT ALL OF US. ER, MAYBE.'

To get off the subject for a moment: that 'incest=rape' thing is so going to be wank, if it isn't already.

Er, hang on. Now that I've actually looked at that RPF link (as, er, I should probably have done earlier), it seems to be more along the lines of 'OMG THEY REALLY ACTUALLY FANCY EACH OTHER', which is something of which I most definitely disapprove. So I rework my point: RPF is fine, so long as you understand that what you are writing is fiction.

Date: 2006-10-30 05:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misscam.livejournal.com
Yes. I mean, RPF is generally not my preference. But I have friends who write it, so... Whatever you like with your tea, you know? It's really when it crosses a certain line and get all "this is TRUE!" or "this is how it should be!" I get icked out. (See Tinhats, the madness of.) When people are more seriously shipping them with fanfic than just writing fanfic for fun, you know?

And admittedly also icked when it involves minors. Just... No.

I can sort of understand why people are prone to equate incest to rape, even though the two issues are like apples and oranges. Incest can involve rape, but it isn't rape. Perhaps I'm just annoyed by the semantics of the thing...

And what's with these new pink icons of potentially insulting nature? I've been noticing them for a little while now. I think I have Issues with Pink, really.

It's why this one be pinkish. Cos it seemed like the colour to be and I hope this one is demented enough not to insult... I don't know, anti-slash Romanashippers? Anti-het Jackshippers?

Bitch, please. Sweden/Finland OTP. Theirloveissocomplicatedandborderissue. China's away loving on Taiwan, but it is unrequited, so North Korea will have to be the rebound land.

Pink in excess is foul. And yes, I have a feeling where some of them come from. Almost makes me want to get blue icons with Statements on. Because blue is the colour of the TARDIS and the TARDIS is bestest.

I'm having muffins for dessert myself.

A Doctor/TARDIS icon would have to be blue. I don't know what it would say, though. "Doctor/TARDIS: the ship that's bigger on the inside"?

Doctor/Jamie is tartan. Doctor/Rose... actually pink seems to work cos of her name is Rose. Doctor/Romana is black like DEATH and DESPAIR and WAR. Or pale blue. Doctor/Martha is blue and/or red. Doctor/Jack is a RAINBOW OF POLYSEXUAL LOVE. Doctor/Sarah is auburn.

...stop me, pls.

I feel like the poster is making far too many generalisations about incest fanfic, and incest in general. Incest in childhood horrifies me, and I refuse to read any SPN fics with underage Sam or Dean. However, when they're both adults, I think the line between wrong and acceptable is a fine one, and that's part of what interests me about the pairing. The best fics I've read are ones that acknowledge the emotional toll the relationship has on the characters, and in no way paints a happy picture of their life together.

And yes, I think that Sam/Dean is super hot, but that doesn't mean I would condone incest in real life. I get kind of ticked off when someone implies that shipping them has irreversably messed up my morals.

(I did wonder when the 'OMG Sam/Dean is WRONG' wank would show up. And here it is.)

Oh and also? Billie does not fancy David Tennant. Fantasy =/= reality.

Generally, RPF's a no-no for me. It gets way to close to craziness.

Admittedly, sibling incest does not automatically hit my 'WRONG!' button as much as parent/child does. The power dynamics are not quite as fucked up, you know? But it would still depend.

But fiction is fiction, and real life is real life. There is a difference, even if they can both influence each other.

Billie does not fancy David Tennant.

I would not blame her if she did, since he's hot. But really, you can be attracted to people and still don't want to date them. And I rather do trust that people will be with who they want to be, which in Billie's case seems to be her current boyfriend.

I really think the worst case of RPS madness is the whole DanEmma marriage thing. Oh, god, it makes my brain hurt, and also cringe for the actors, who must surely know about it.

This is why I stick to shipping fictional characters (Apart from Jensen/Jared, which is totally for fun. Plus, they joke about it themselves, so I figure they can take it).

*uses pink icon that has absolutely nothing to do with fandom*

Wank or No Wank's no fun - it just leaves you slightly uncomfortable and without the £250,000 top prize. On the plus side it doesn't have Noel Edmonds so you could be on to a winner.

The pink icons of irritatingness annoy me, as my fave colour as pink - as people can probably guess from my layout. STOP MAKING ME IDENTIFY MY LAYOUT WITH THINGS I DON'T WANT TO.

I am currently trying to guess how long it takes before I give up and get an oppossing icon just because I am in a bitchy mood.

And egads, Tinhats are not wanted in this fandom. Particularly if they are squeeing over the death of RL girlfriends.

I' not familiar with the fandom in question, but (on a challenge) i once wrote a gang non-con slash in another fandom...I never thought it would interest me, but the charry was ripe for it in many many ways...I was very pleased with the results, both as a writer and a reader...You wouldn't know this, but I tend to write what has been described as by my readers as "stylishly graphic smut"...I don't use profanity and most often am not vulgar...At any rate, I'm not certain how to feel about Taboo!Wank...I certainly feel incest and rape, et all are quite wrong, but I'm not as certain how I feel about it in literature...After all, I feel murder is wrong as well, but Dexter has me disturbingly enjoying him serial murdering murderers/criminals who have sidestepped being brought to task by law enforcement...

I mean, isn't killing fundamentally wrong?...And if so, shouldn't I be disturbed that I find his vigilantism so intriguingly satisfying?...

ABS;)
