Bush talks about hostages in Iraq

And sure enough, the Norwegian went for – I don't know what the numbers are – but they made a nice little living, because there was no – no push-back. There was no kind of structure. And so these weren't necessarily political people. These were people that just found a pretty good niche for a while. Made a couple of million dollars, nobody got hurt. And fortunately, our Delta teams found the guy, and got him out of there. But it was just an interesting story.

Err. What? There are no Norwegian hostages in Iraq. There were no Norwegian hostages in Iraq. What the fuck are you on about? Did you confuse us with someone else?

I should feel insulted. We always get confused with others. Woe!

A tale of moo and pedophiles.

TV channel CW wants suggestions - Am vaguely amused that shippers seem about too, sugesting who should hook up. Lots Supernatural love about, I see. And hate for 7th Heaven, before the defenders marsh in. I must admit I raised an eyebrow at this:

We love how the show reminds us that God has the answers. All you have to do is trust in God and everything will work out. I'm sorry that Not a 7th Heaven fan can't see how great this show is; you must be missing out.

and this:

I said to promo Supernatural but I disagree with canning 7th heaven. I grew up on that show, it has taught me a lot. I am not ready to give that up. I think its a wonderful family based show and deals with real life situations. PLEASE DONT CAN 7TH HEAVEN!

... I don't think I want to know what you learn growing up on 7th Heaven. I watched the show sometimes in Norway and tended to blink a lot.

So, in the US you're all merrily watching new shows that'll make it to Norway dreadfully slow. Plenty of time for you Americans on my flist to tell me one show I must not miss and one show I have to avoid to save my brain, and why.

I just got back from a breakfast/rally thing for the Democratic Party here in the good old USA and I thought that you would like this little quote from Senator Paul Sarbanes:

"A man gets into his car on his way to work one morning and takes the interstate highway, let's say this man is Bush. He is going the wrong way on the road but he just keeps going. His cell phone rings, it's his wife. She says "Be careful dear, I'm watching the news and there is some psycho going the wrong way on the interstate", he answers "You're telling me! There are hundreds of them!"
George Bush just keeps going the wrong way even when everyone around him tells him so."

Hah! He stole that story, though. I've seen it in a commercials yonks ago. But still - heh.

So you're hoping for a Democratic win, eh?

Yeah definitely, we need some new leadership and some people who aren't completely insane. Hopefully we'll get some good ones in office.

Democrats can't win too big, and won't win in the senate. You see we in the USA, have electronic voting in place now, thanks to Diebold (run by Republicans who are "committed" to the Republican party and president).

The machines in Virginia don't even offer the name of the Democratic candidate on the "vote confirmation" screen. And in another state (Florida) I think, the early voters are noticing that their electronic vote for the Democrat is being counted in the machine as a vote for the Republican candidate. So, as you can see, there's a deal of malfeasance. Oh, and did I mention that the folks in charge of these things are opposing verified paper trails?

It'll be a miracle if the Dems win the Senate.

Must Not Miss: Aaron Sorkin's new drama on NBC, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, because it started off slightly shaky, but is do so well right now, it's fantastic. Funny and clever and Aaron effin Sorkin.

Must Miss: ABC's Lost. Not because it's a bad show (it isn't, it's usually fantastic), but because it's addictive and twisty-turny and lovely. The catch? The writers have admitted to not knowing where the show is going. And for a show like this, that is very, very bad.

Must Not Miss: NBC's Heroes. I was a bit skeptical at first, but damn if it didn't suck me in like a sucking thing. I wait in anticipation for each new episode like an addict waiting for a fix. (Honorable Mention: Ugly Betty. Too fabulous for words.)

I can't really think of Must Miss TV right now... if I do I'll be sure to mention it. :)

What I liked more about the Norwegian story was when UD was confronted and were a bit like : "WTF? We haven't received any messages about Norwegians being taken hostage. And there's like one Norwegian stationed in Iraq at the moment. "

And the line that they would be investigating this... ;)

Man, I hate 7th Heaven. It is a whole bunch of people blowing every thing everybody else does WAY out of proportion. I mean, at least in soap operas people are like "YOU KILLED MY EVIL TWIN BROTHER!" Now that's cause for alarm. None of this "TIMMY GOT A TATTOO! WOE! WE ARE BAD PARENTS AND HE MUST BE PUNISHED!!!"

I want to see that family dropped in the middle of a ghetto with a hundred dollars and see them realize what REAL problems are.

Can't Miss: Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip - dittoing everything said above. Plus the rant in the pilot is excellent.

Must Miss: Jericho I mean, it may be a riveting story but the idea of a post-nuclear world is a little too unnerving at the moment.

Re: Norwegians in Iraq - while there isn't like, a big offical state army force, would it possibly be one of the many private military contractors (aka mercenaries) of various nationalities? I'm sure the various English owned merc firms like Sandline hire all over, so presumably a Norwegian with a gun fetish could've been with one of them.

Just a thought :s

You should definitely watch Heroes when you get it there. It's easily the best new show of the season.

Oh, don't listen to ANYTHING shrub says. He lives in his own idea of reality that does not coincide with any part of the real world.

(Is it 2008 yet?)

7th Heaven wasn't bad in the early years. Cheesy, but not batshit crazy like it is now. All the characters need to be in padded rooms.

Yet I watch it sometimes when I'm extremely bored. I am usually a glutton for punishment.

I want to know who transcribed it. And who SPELLCHECKED it (my guess is "noone") Look:

I said, what's it like to be kidnaped, man? It must have been weird – Baghdad, to be kidnaped.

I have nothing else to say but *headdesk*
